Inspector Jubelin said investigators gained new information from the search, but failed to reach the breakthrough they had been hoping for.

Police looked at almost 700 persons of interest, conducted hundreds of interviews and gathered more than 4,000 pieces of evidence, but Williams' disappearance remains a mystery.
William Tyrrell inquest looks likely as deputy coroner visits search site for missing boy

Perhaps this is why the case is going to a Coronial Inquest soon?
This info. is fairly recent only a few months ago.

This is even more recent (from the Directions Hearing held on 19 December 2018):

‘[Gerard Craddock SC, Counsel assisting the coroner] said William was in foster care and it was that, combined with his disappearance and the circumstances of his disappearance, that meant there was jurisdiction to hold an inquest.’

William Tyrrell may still be alive and police pursuing 'active leads', court told

Proving he was at the assembly is the most important thing BS has had to do since William went missing.
Such a simple thing really with all those other people around.
If he can prove it, Im sure a media outlet would leap at the opportunity for an exclusive interview.
I’d also be asking the police to admit that they know I was at the Assembly. I dont think that would be an unreasonable request.
I’d also be shouting from the rooftops if i was innocent.
Thats all he really has to do, if he wants to longer be a POI.
Not a squeak from him though...
Why do you think being at the assembly would prove him innocent?

While that is true, i'm not sure procedurally what police can do in that regard? It would be evidence wouldn't it? And wouldn't they have to preserve evidence in case of a Trial or other legal proceedings?

YES KIWI
When I went to school assembles all my children’s friends would run up to me to say hello because they had been to our birthdays and sports together.
We all knew each other & I’d never need to sit alone as the parents all knew each other because of the children.

For heavens sake allow the man to present proof he did not abduct a William.

That’s could be his alibi that he didn’t go to Kendal at that time.

BBM, As long as he presented proof to the police that's really all that matters isn't it? Surely they don't have to account for every finding to the public do they?
I think it's just the media in most cases putting things out there.
Like the say Trial by media and the court of public opinion which happens in a lot of cases now with all things media, and social media.
All IMO

Why would he go to Kendall at midday if he'd abducted William there at 10:30?

True JLZ, just his whereabouts at that time.

I’m not sure it’s trial by media. It wasn’t the media who raided his house and office, it was the cops and it’s the cops who wanted him to report to Port copshop, was it every day?
I wouldn’t say it was trial by media.

Ahh but he/someone was cluey enough to delete his call logs.

Police seized his telephone records and those of William’s grandmother as they have checked his statement that he had a missed call from the grandmother that morning and tried to call back but could not get through.

A friend of Mr Spedding’s said yesterday that police had questioned Mr Spedding about “why the phone calls were no longer in the call log on his mobile phone.”

Mr Spedding said he then went to Cafe Buzz, 50m from his office in Bold St, Laurieton, where he had a coffee with his wife. The friend said Mr Spedding said he had paid for the coffees via EFTPOS and had obtained a bank statement with the transaction recorded.

Mr Spedding has told police he then walked with his wife across the road to Laurieton Public School to attend a school assembly in which one of his grandchildren got an award.

It is understood Mr Spedding has asked a woman who was taking photographs at the assembly for a copy of the pictures.

We’re for Sydney | Daily Telegraph

My call logs on my phone were set to delete on auto every 14 days.

I also want to point out that Armchairdetective who stated the assembly time as 12pm also posted that they worked in Laurieton 2 days a week, and therefore had local knowledge.

Does 2 hours seem like an awfully long time to have coffee with your wife? Coffee at ~10am, presentation at the school across the road at 12pm? Maybe its just because i have three kids and im always rushing about.. But even on the odd occasion we do go out for dinner it would be rare for us to be there for 2 hours. I cant imagine sitting in a coffee shop for 2 hours and then going and sitting at a presentation afterwards as well

Makes me wonder who he deleted the call logs for. The police ... or Margaret and Colin.
Surely everyone realises that the police can find out the exact usage of your phone.
But Margaret and Colin can't find that out.

Anyone can obtain call log data if they are directly connected to the particular number of interest. Eg Spedding could request it. If the phone was owned by the Spedding business partnership then either partner could obtain a copy. If the phone was owned by Spedding only he could authorise Margaret to obtain a copy. Copies can also be obtained online thru the telco website by using the phone number and password.

I wont post any more references, because I think it may have been Armchairdetective's local knowledge that gave us the 12pm assembly start time.

12pm strikes me as an odd time for an Assembly. Would that be before or after childrens lunchvreak?

They were having Jump for Heart that day as well. Perhaps that interferred with the regular assembly start time. I would think that they had lunch prior to the assembly. Perhaps right after Jump for Heart, when the children might have been really hungry.

I am going back through the threads to find our previous references to the assembly time. So far ....

School assembly started at 12pm.

The Laurieton Public School newsletter for we 12 Sep 2014 doesn't have a commencing time for 'stage assemblies'. Just that they were due to be held on Fri 12th.

The newsletter is available online. I can't get link to paste.

It might be--contrary to what we've been told--that Margaret came in to Laurieton with Bill that morning, and being recently out of hospital was happy to sit a good while at the cafe until assembly time, while he attended to a few things at the office and possibly elsewhere.
