Children in care
Not 47000 from my search

From your link posted, the number of children in OOHC is more than 47,000

How many children live in out-of-home care in Australia?
The most recent statistics from the AIHW (2018a) show that, as of 30 June 2017, there were 47,915 Australian children living in OOHC.

I take that back, there were 47,000 in OOHC in 2017 - but it's Australia wide.

Aust population this year is 24,600,000 so that makes 47,000 = .2%

Considering our society, drug culture, homeless etc (and I don't mean to sound unempathetic) it's not really a huge number IMO.

What? Are you kidding?

No I'm not.

1 child in care is too many, but as I said there are so many people that can't look after their child/ren. We have so many drug addicts that have children they can't look after, so many in DV situation, and many that end up dead - I could go on. Our society is not perfect and never will be, you can't expect that. I'm being a realist.

I'm also not stating anything in reference to this case.

We should move on, this isn't helping William. If you want to talk about Foster Care Pros & Cons - you should start a thread. This is not the place IMO

Sorry if If I got my info wrong about children in foster care but as I posted William is not missing because he was in foster care as stated.

  • #526
The foster system was not responsible for his abduction. Links are on previous page.

This thread is for William. It’s not about the foster system.

No William wasn't taken due to being a foster child, but his case also highlights a broken system. Sometimes it takes a high profile case like William's, Luke Battie, Braxton Slager, Jill Meagher etc etc for the parliament to step up and make long needed changes to broken systems, to prevent such tragedies that could of been prevented if the system wasn't broken.

No problem, I should learn not to skim through articles like that.

I agree, I also think the authorities are put to blame before the parents. And yes, it’s not helpful to this thread that is supposed to be about William, not FACS

As I have previously said, this is William's thread. Yes it does sometimes highlight problems, but you need to start a thread for it and mention all these cases in one.

You also can't lump them all in together, Luke & Braxton are all very different cases.

I disagree, it’s not political. How much can anyone do when someone is deranged and wants to kill .

How could have parliamentary people avoided Williams’s abduction ? Going way to off track here

Just like we have a Royal commission into Aged Care at the moment.......and long overdue IMO, we really need a Royal Commission into Family and Community Services. To be honest, I am saddened that you do not outraged that 47000 children are in OOHC.

I'm sorry your saddened, but that's my opinion and you have yours.

There are many things in this country that need an 'overhaul' shall I say.

I think the start should be with the Justice system. If we get that right the others will follow.

Enough now - Back to William.

Williams getting lost again here . Isn’t it about him ?

  • #534
Yes I agree and I think the Australian podcast will focus on the system and some of the problems. All too often children are taken from “at risk” homes only to end up in more dangerous situations......IMO.

Never a truer word said.

On 13 September 2014 a child named Braxton Nicholas Slager born on 29 October 2012 and a foster child in the care of FACS died in horrifically tragic circumstances in Sydney.

This is the day after William's disappearance!

The same Coroner and Senior Counsel conducted that Inquest that are in charge if William's inquest.

The redacted Coronial Finding can be located by googling the child's name with the word ...inquest.

Warning. The document contains graphic detail.

This poor dear child

Edited to add. The first page of the Findings lists all the legals representing what parties. Gives a very good idea of what the process will be with William's case.

I read those findings yesterday too - so sad. I didn’t realise it was a day after William disappeared, that makes it even sader.

"William was stolen. He was abducted, he was kidnapped, he was stolen. Whatever words you want to use, somebody decided to take him. " 2.47 60 mintues interview one year after William went missing and so many years later IMO this is where we are at but hopefully we will now have narrowed the field down to a few and this will tighten the squeeze further on that person that 'knows something' or the POI's that are left of the table. The neighbour being around at the time is giving me a horrible feeling and my mind wanders to this being as horrible as William playing his game and when ffc heard William do his little roar he was actually roaring at the person he sees and runs over to them thinking it was a relative or mistakes grandad etc and meets up with a man who simply gave him something or told him something to peak his interest and off he went to a car or van or for a walk. unseen. or he was grabbed and they absconded. Sadly, we may never know IMO but the pain from both BF and FF is being seen on both sides and we should not delve into their pain but except that that pain is on the perpetrator of this crime and let him/her and any involved hear this pain and suffering onto themselves and be dammed for this sin. I pray that this pain be unbearable and the suffering be long and unforgotten that it drives them to confess there crimes and bring some closure to these families.

Nowhere Child podcast: walls are changing, but William Tyrrell’s memory won’t fade
NoCookies | The Australian

It is a very long article. Just points on what else was mentioned

* BF says he took off with William and hid in a granny flat for 7 weeks. He explained it was a crazy thing to do and reasoned that " I didn't want them to take William. He is my son."
* William's foster home in Sydney had a swimming pool, plantation shutters, polished floor boards and big screen TV's.
* There is a run down of the foster parents description of events (which we have all heard)
* The former Primer Baird authorised the reward after getting the advice. If it makes someone come forward - lets do it.
* Former Police Minister Troy Grant authorised the resources. The type never before seen in NSW.
* Experts from around the globe were left perplexed. It's like the X files - just vanished.
* It says William bf is not an easy man to speak to - he is of few words. It goes on to say he acknowledges he was not doing enough back in 2013 to satisfy the courts he was capable of caring for his son. But he still had hope because they had another child and a 4th on the way.
* BF doesn't think he will ever find out what happened. He is affraid.
* BF was informed a few months ago about the inquest. He got himself together. Without a lawyer, because he could not afford one, he attended everyday.
Legal aid was approved. He cannot predict the inquest outcomes. But it has had an enormous impact on him as a person.

The article ends - I try every day to work at overcoming something so traumatic. But poor William. He has suffered the most.”
Thanks sosocurious. I'm not able to access anything in that newspaper. Can you tell me what is pictured in that photo at the bottom of your post?

I would like to thank all of the contributors to this site over these many years for being regular contributors, even when disputes arise and shutdowns occur, I have been kept up to date on msm articles and podcasts etc only due to your links. Thank you also to WS's for continuing this thread and discussion going for William. My children called me a nerd today when I was asked what I was reading on the TV and when I stated it was about little William, my 14 year old said "you've been reading that for nearly half of my life! - nerd". So sad when you think about this case in that context that my child remembers me talking and reading about William for so long he thinks it is about half of his life. William should have been enjoying life with family and growing up into his complex little life, however those cards were given but unfortunately, I think that he met up with a vile thing that chose to take the most precious of things, a child. Who are you and what did you do with William?

<modsnip: quoted post was removed>

... it wasn’t the foster system which harmed William.
In the podcast it’s mentioned there 45,000 children in Care. 45,000 !

That’s a lot of children with full bellies in warm loving homes getting hugs and being educated.

That seems good to me.
