It is sounding to me like the police have no idea what happened to William. What is being said will be making the abductor feel very comfortable.
Hopefully it's just the introduction and helping set the scene and to show what's been done and what the possibilities are and how they've covered. Don't worry, Louise, I'm sure there'll be lots of discomfort over the next 4 weeks.

The absence of eyewitnesses and forensic evidence makes the investigation into William Tyrrell's suspected abduction among the hardest cases in the world to solve, a Sydney inquest has been told.

He stressed any suggestion that those called to give evidence were suspects is "simply wrong".
"This is an inquest and not a criminal trial," he said.

“(But) there are very few family members who had access to William on ... 12 September 2014,” he said.

“If William was murdered, and that’s a big if, it may be this rare 3 per cent of cases.

“Offenders in child abduction ... come in all shapes, sizes, colours, genders, economic status.”
