William Tyrrell abducted in a car by an offender who chose to 'act on their desires', inquest hears
Mr Craddock said it was not rational to think that William could have kept ahead of police, emergency services or flocks of citizens involved in the initial search for the three-year-old when he vanished on September 12, 2014.

Citing research from the United States, Mr Craddock said 97 per cent of children who go missing were abducted by a family member.

But, he said, "very few family members" had access to William on the day he disappeared.

very few family members - makes you wonder who did, apart fron the ff. Of course I'm thinking extended family here. Just thought it was an interesting thing to say.

William Tyrrell may well be one of the tiny percentage of children abducted and murdered by a complete stranger.

Mr Craddock said kidnaps by strangers were incredibly rare, but NSW police believed that it was possible in this case. They have no witnesses and no forensic evidence.

He cited research which showed that when children are murdered, it is most often by a person known to them, or related to them.

The fact that there were no witnesses made the case one of the “most difficult to solve.”

“There are very few family members or acquaintances who had access to William (that day),” he said. BBM

It is paywalled but we've heard most of it. here's another snippet though:

Charged former detective Gary Jubelin arrived at an inquest into the disappearance of William Tyrrell, an investigation from which he was sidelined just months ago.
Jubelin, who has been charged with four counts of breaching the Surveillance Devices Act for allegedly recording someone in the search for William, sat at the back of the Lidcombe hearing on the same side of the room as detectives now leading the case.

37sThe inquest has resumed after lunch with Senior Constable Dring back in the witness box. He told the court there was “extremely steep terrain” and had some mishaps with “running chainsaws” in those areas.

1mSenior Constable Dring told the court a cadaver dog was then used in the steep areas that were difficult to access with power tools. The court heard this ensured “nothing was missed”.

This is a tweet from Kelly Fedore-Chief court reporter for @9NewsSyd

Counsel Assisting refers to "persons of interest" and says they will lead evidence that contradicts one or more were involved in William #Tyrrell's disappearance.

I find that a bit bizarre? Contradicts 1 0r more were involved?? Huh? So...noone was? What??

2mSenior Constable Dring is asked whether it was normal to do a search like this so long after the person disappeared. He told the court it was not unusual and factored into what evidence they looked for
