They took their time to search the van ! Unless they couldn’t locate it for all that time.

They'd been investigating allegations against Donohoe for a year (since September 2013). Perhaps William's disappearance gave them a sense of urgency.

Also worth considering is that the Police might have had a warrant for his arrest and he had been evading them or they couldn’t find him??
Then as they check off the list of persons involved in the search ... Bingo... he is there and they have him....???? And they can’t believe their luck!!
Just a thought... as timing is quite amazing .. totally agree....

Yes, the victims were cognitively impaired men in their twenties. Though the schoolgirls who normally visited the service station found reason to avoid him and he was approaching children with star stamps.

The men ( victims) were described by Psychologist as “childlike” with IQ of that of a child aged 7 or 8 ....

I am thinking that it is possible that a young child may have witnessed a white vehicle on the street, and couldn't adequately describe or identify it. There seems to be several white vehicles belonging to various individuals involved in the inquest.
