Donohoe helped with the SES search for William but was arrested four days later and charged with the unrelated sexual assault of two cognitively impaired young men between the late 2000s and 2014.

He was convicted of five charges, being three of aggravated sexual assault and two of sexual assault — take advantage of impairment.

Donohoe was jailed for five-and-a-half years with a non-parole period of three years.

He appeared today at the NSW Coroner’s Court in Lidcombe at the inquest into William’s suspected disappearance and death.

“I’d just like to point out that I have a cognitive impairment so could you take it very slow,” Donohoe told counsel assisting the coroner, Gerard Craddock SC.

Deputy state coroner Harriet Grahame said: “If you have any difficulty understanding something, you speak directly to me.”

The balding man was wearing a light pink short-sleeved shirt, black tie, grey pants and a dark belt.

He told Mr Craddock he remembered heading to Benaroon Drive — the street where William was last seen — to help with the search in the late afternoon of September 12, 2014.

“I’ve been bashed in jail and everything so my memory is not 100 per cent,” Donohoe said.

He said he was briefed in the car on the way to the suburban street but couldn’t remember a second briefing at about 4pm upon arrival with his search group, called Taree 56.

“The place was like a football match, the amount of people that were there,” Donohoe said.

He said they “went down to the river” to search for the boy and he finished his shift after midnight.

“I had to go to work the next day … and I was exhausted,” he said.
William Tyrrell: Sex offender gives evidence at missing boy’s inquest

As per the bonus podcast episode:
Troy Brown was a junior supervisor for the NBN who was in charge of hiring subcontractors. He said that Donohoe only worked for about 2 weeks for them. He can't remember if Donohoe worked on the day that William went missing, but Troy Brown worked that day.
Troy Brown was presented with 2 time sheets. Both had his name and signature on them, he said that neither one was in his writing. Nor was he authorised to sign off on the timesheets.

Also from the new episode of the podcast ....
Lia Harris says that it is interesting - that she has covered this case for 5 years and it is the first time she has heard of Donohoe.
Apparently, Donohoe was dismissed from giving any further testimony at the inquest after the coroner heard some 'legal argument'. The reason for that is covered by a court order - which means that Lia cannot speak of it.

This is huge IMO

Could a handwriting analysis possibly be done?

Interestingly, Donohoe was searched not long after the July 2018 forensic search.

Perhaps this was due to items found in the forensic search. Or perhaps from the many tips that were reportedly received at that time.

IMO I feel they found something of his in the forensic search that led the detectives to look into him. The inquest was based around him yesterday along with 2 LE officers speaking of maps. So IMO maybe the maps are connected to where and what they found of Donohoe's.

I think we'll hear a lot more about this man, I found a shared news article last night about Donohoe and it appears it's another family that is a victim of Donohoe's. So more people may come forward now that his name and face is out in the media.

In regards to him not saying anything at the inquest and a legal argument that can't be reported on I believe is to do with self incrimination and LE not being able to use evidence in a criminal court. Of course I can't back this up so it's IMO

Deleting my thoughts.. irrelevant!

I saw your post before you deleted your thoughts (hope you don't mind me responding to those thoughts).
I had a similar feeling, too.
From the photos and video, Donohoe appeared a cocky so-and-so in the 'silent' police interview, but quite the doddering 'poor me' as he was walking outside the inquest.

Thanks SA not at all! Was not sure if it was an unfair assessment. However you much more eloquently and clearly stated it....! Further, if you are employing a contractor they would need to have certain capabilities to be employed by someone like NBN, as well as being registered..

Chicken bones?

Chicken bones?
I still find it unbelievable that this guy was not looked into within days of William going missing.
He must have stuck out like the proverbial in the small places where he worked, if he was weird enough to frighten teenage girls, as for keeping chickens in his van the mind boggles, i can laugh at the picture of customers at the petrol station standing around his van waiting for a fresh egg.
He must have been of at least average intelligence to work where he did.
I think he is cunning.

It was a smart move playing the interview video in the court and releasing it publicly. It presents an entirely different image from the photos and clips the day of his recent testimony.

IMO,
Even if Troy did sign off on his time sheet that day and even IF Donahoe is listed as working that day, what if he was working solo?

IMO the only real thing that a handwriting analysis will prove is if Troy did or didn't sign off that particular day.

If his details were forged, was it just for this day? Were there other days also that were forged that we have not heard about? If so did RD make a habit of doing this to defraud the employer of income whilst he was either sleeping in his van or working at his other job or doing other things when he was being paid to subcontract fro NBN?

It will prove fraud to the employer if he forged this timesheet which obviously gives LE suspicion as to why? but what I would like to know is was he working solo that day, if he wasnt will the other person(s) be called to be a witness? If he was working solo would they have addresses / jobs and completion sheets as to where he worked?

I also find it interesting that if LE were looking at offenders that lived in the areas (which I presume included the Manning, Hastings, great lakes and surrounds) why after his arrest in 2014 was he not looked at? Even though it was not an arrest for children I still thought it may have sparked interest due to the nature of his crime.
