Gary Jubelin I Catch Killers book extract: William Tyrrell mistakes and why the case hasn’t been cracked

It's a huge article & paywalled.

I'll try & paraphrase some of it

* Homicide called in after almost 1 week

* Police response appeared confused, who’s running the case, the local uniformed commander ( who was doing press conferences ) or the homicide squad?

* Paul Jocob sent detectives to Kendall, at that time was was being treated as a missing persons case, huge search has been carried out.

* PJ said “ The cops need to get on top of this, and quickly”

* Weeks later Hans ( cop leading the investigation ) walks past GJ’s desk, talk about case, HR says WT is a foster child, the house he went missing from is the FGM, and his biological parents had stolen WT before

* GL thinks is sounds like a good line of injuiry. . Statistically, when a child is murdered or goes missing, the perpetrator is usually someone close to them.

* Hans was months away from retiring after 40 yrs in the police

* Feeling around the office was that this should be a straight forward case to end his career on

* Almost 4 months later, in early December, Mick Willing calls GJ into office & says that there is evidence neither bio family or FF are involved. Hans had ruled them out.

* MW wanted GJ to return from unsolved homicide unit to take over when Hans retired in Febuary 2015

* MW says “ Jubes I need you to sort this out, it’s all over the place”

* GJ looks at the computer system & sees MW is right. Obvious how much was missed in those first hours & days when the local cops treated it was missing person, before homicide was called in

*GJ says houses were not properly searched, cars came & left the street without being checked & no crime scene was established.

* The [email protected] system shows over 1000 items, reports, statements, investigators’ notes -still waiting to be reviewed

* GJ couldn't find a written investigation plan. Only a few cops working on the case, not enough
wow

Is this the same episode as that of the well-dressed man? If so, definitely Kendall not Kew?

Bit confusing ... I wouldn't consider an unshaven man in jeans and a maroon t-shirt a 'well dressed man'.

Either way, wasn't this line of inquiry later dismissed?

After William disappeared, there were rumours that on the day he vanished a well-dressed man called into a local store in Kew asking for directions to the street William went missing from.

From memory the initial mention of him was in Kendall, but you would have to ask Stormbird about the podcast - I was just quoting her post.

BBM: Oh so is THIS why the parents have their faces blocked out in the video shared on here?

If the sighting was by a reputable person as seems to be the case, and it happened in Kendall not Kew, and it's been dismissed, fine, I drop my interest. I was thinking along the lines of the man having been invented.

I found this interesting ...... it was written by Peter O'Brien in June 20

Now, the Coronial Inquest into the disappearance of William Tyrrell is set to resume in October 2020, after the COVID-19 pandemic saw it adjourned in March. It is understood that the ‘confidentiality order’ surrounding this next sitting will see less evidence suppressed from the public view.

I wonder what information has led him to this conclusion???

Hello :)

I saw an article earlier today about Gary J - about his 'three major cases' specifically. I was taken aback by his lack of conviction, in the literal sense. In all of these major cases - not one killer has been arrested for murder, and in one case (Leverson) the killer has been free to kill again...

Has he got a good track record otherwise?? TA...

Should we think he's was the top homicide cop??

Is the book a good read?? I'm not sure wether to invest it - or not?

Hello and good to see you back on the thread! :)

I'm keen to read the new book ..... in particular, to hear Jubes' thoughts on William's case....
I don't follow the other cases closely.....

I don't know if the book is a good read as it's not out yet, but from the extracts I've read, I'm looking forward to getting my signed copy :)

As to his "lack of conviction" of these 3 cases ( I'm guessing you mean WT, Bowraville & Leveson? ) all cases which GJ never was initially lead investigator of, but instead was bought onto the cases at a later date ( WT = 5 months later, Bowraville =approx 5 years later & Leveson approx 9 years later ) all had their own unique legal challenges that GJ had to deal with IMO.

I do think he was a top homicide cop IMO, he certainly gave it all he had :)

I did notice in the 60 Minutes segment, and in a few articles, that the book also speaks of Jubes' successes. It sounds as if it is a well-rounded biography. And Dan Box is a very good writer. imo

I couldn't see most of the articles about the Gary Jubelin/Dan Box book, but was able to access the book extract via a Daily Telegraph @dailytelegraph tweet:

"Gary Jubelin I Catch Killers book extract: William Tyrrell mistakes and why the case hasn't been cracked"
News Corp Australia Network, Daily Telegraph
14 August 2020, 8 pm

A large part of the extract is about the pursuit of former POI, BS, who is now pursuing NSW Police, so I'm guessing that might be a topic needing some caution if discussed here.
