Ok need someone with better legal knowledge than I have:
If police visited the Spedding home after BS had left to chat with Mrs. S, and possibly left some recording devices around, don't they need a warrant for that so any evidence would be admissible? If so, then they must have probable cause? So a lot they are not saying and keeping close to their chests. I believe they're trying to rattle their POI and his family members.
I also thought it was odd the way Mrs S worded her reply about the original search: "I am confident because they won't find anything related to William" or words to that effect. Surely most people would say "because he's innocent!" not imply that he had covered his tracks too well.

Yes, they do need a warrant for any listening devices - and they don't dish them out willy nilly.

I wonder if any of the forensic testing of the mobile phone they took a few weeks ago pinpointed locations that BS had been on the day William disappeared? And if that has anything to do with the current search.

Yes, I think the new detective wanted to have a quick chat with the Missus. She is probably the weakest link.

There could be another link ... if the detectives have been given the opportunity to have a special interviewer speak with the boys. To see what they may know. See if they saw anything when (ex?) foster dad was clearing/using the fire pit, stacking the woodpile on it, putting stuff away under the house or in his shed, washing the van ....

Another thing I was wondering about, with regard to the search. Botanics. Vegetation/mud/dirt/pollen that could be on the van, in the van, on shoes. Could that be matched to certain regions of the forest? Could certain vegetation exist in the forest that is not found on nearby residential properties?

:dunno:

(Snap, bearbear ... just saw your post about plant material :) )

Oh thank you for that. Maybe the bugs' batteries ran out and needed replacing?? I don't know how long they last

just another scenario
did bs quietly return to grandmas that day unannounced to fix the machine and pull into the driveway, the w/machine may have been in the carport, so no need to disturb anybody, and there was little spiderman hiding and excited?
the ride on lawnmower noise was probably loud enough to cover vehicle noise
so simple, and then a quick drive through that lonely road
forensic testing may have picked up plant material etc specific to that area in his van, wonder if they have returned all vehicles yet or the other items. computer etc?
wonder if he helped with the search?

All of that sounds so plausible. I totally see how he could have driven up into the driveway and seen little Spiderman hiding alongside the house. Snatched him up silently and driven off, quickly.

I am just trying to figure out the timeline. Was he really having coffee @ 10 am with wifie in town?

Would the wife totally lie about that?

Hi all, I apologise if this has already been posted - has anyone seen this? It's the NZ Crimestopper's website that says he may have been brought to New Zealand? (There is an error in the report however that he went missing on the 12th of February).

thankyou, yes, somebody posted the link last week
im wondering if the looking overseas is more to do with computer images and people being on the lookout on websites, because i think police stated they dont think he is out of the country?

I think it is weird that they have apparently given him his work van back already though. If they found forensics would they have given it back so soon?

probably or there may have been confusion about the time, and so if she couldnt really remember the time maybe just went along with what he said?

so by refusing to speak of the results, wouldnt that imply there was something found?
otherwise wouldnt they say there was nothing?

My thoughts exactly. There's definitely something afoot. Not only hasn't he been officially cleared, but they "refused to talk about the results".

didnt they take three vehicles though, maybe there was another work vehicle and family car?

But there was a receipt that was given to LE, showing a time stamp and both of their coffee orders...

Maybe not totally. And I guess it is all dependent on how much she relies on Spedding for everything. How much she believes in him, no matter what.

10 minute drive from Laurieton to Benaroon Drive. Grab a quick coffee at the shop, take it away, the wife stays. "Just got a quick job to do, replace a washer part, will take me 10 mins, she has already tried to call me about it (though didn't answer her phone when I rang back), meet you back here at 12 for the school assembly".

Still struggling to get past the coffee shop manager saying she hadn't seen them in a while. Now, she wouldn't lie imo. It is only a small coffee shop, how did she not see them? Or say "I didn't see them, but one of my staff did" ... and how many staff would a small coffee shop have?

yes. I just thought it odd that his work truck was returned because I would think that was what he would have driven to the home if he was planning to fix the washer.

Probably. I imagine his cell pings would clue them in and maybe that is what happened.

The media seem to be following WS around. Knowing when he leaves his house, where he goes to work, right behind him as he passes the crime scene.

That must make it impossible for police to observe his natural movements. The guy must be paranoid with all the surveillance.

I think she was at the cafe at 10, I think I remember a staff worker saying they saw her

I don't think Colin said 'both' of their coffee orders. Not that I have seen in MSM, anyway. And there is nothing to say they weren't/his wasn't a take away coffee. Lots of tradies grab take away coffee.

Oh, that is not what I recall at all. Quite the opposite. Do you have a link for that SamandJo? It would help me to get rid of the impression I have that he/they were not seen.

"The friend said Mr Spedding then went to go meet his wife for coffee at Buzz Cafe, 140m away from his office on the opposite side of the street. Cafe manager Lisa, who did not wish to give her last name, said she recognised Mr Spedding and his wife but said they hadn't come into the cafe 'in a while'."

thats true, maybe she got there first and ordered both their coffees and sat and waited for him, he may have been an hour late and she was coerced into covering for him?
he may have had a reasonable sounding excuse, or maybe didnt turn up at all and went to his little flat and showered before the school presentation?
so many scenarios, just trying to find the simplest
