Detectives investigating the disappearance of toddler, William Tyrrell, have arrested a 63-year-old man on the state’s Mid North Coast in relation to a series of historical child sex offences.
Around 1.30 this afternoon (Wednesday 22 April), investigators from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad attended an address at Bonny Hills, near Port Macquarie, and took the man into custody.
He was taken to the Port Macquarie Police Station where he is being questioned by police about the alleged sexual assaults of two girls, aged three and six, in 1987 in Sydney.
Officers from Strike Force Rosann stress the arrest does not relate to the disappearance of William Tyrrell.
Investigations into that matter are continuing.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Police through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The public can also report information via the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/ Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Unrelated to William at this stage. Now it all makes sense why he didn't want to the media. He was hiding something else. The assault is from "years ago". It doesn't just happen once. There must be others over the years

Yes. This is the first thing I've heard that aligns him as a strong POI beyond circumstantial things.

Fingers crossed it does lead to WT. So painful if it doesn't :(

How can it not be related to the Tyrrell case?!!!

The article says that the shirt in the drain was unrelated. I just don't believe it. Why would the newspaper, with its history of dripfeeding police info to the public, even mention it?
Why would a plumber report it if there were kids living there anyway? AFAIK the kids were removed from his care after the raid.
Why would WT's parents give a TV interview, organised by police, where they give very specific information such as the fact William was wearing a shirt under his suit?
My opinion is that it was related, and the paper is trying to report it without causing all hell to break loose.

Oh that answers my post about there being others. Does a series imply many children or just a series of assault on one child?

It says assaults on a 3 and 6 year old so at least 2 incidents

Says a 3 and 6 year old back in 87...Explains the constant media attention on him. So victims could come forward. Sick!

Oh my God. I had a feeling something was about to blow any second.

This may be why the report was made to family services last year.

1987?? I wonder if they checked into his past and found some case that should have been prosecuted that wasn't. Is there no statute of limitations in Australia for this type of crime?

ETA: I hope nobody thinks that my post came across like I think he shouldn't be prosecuted because it's been so long. If he's guilty, he needs to pay.

I hope so! It could be a horrible coincidence that BSs history is unrelated even if true and worth convicting for.

It would make things horribly prolonged and confusing if BS doesn't speak up.
