I just do not understand as a motive for mass murder: "I was bullied, so I need to go shoot some other people who had nothing to do with that bullying"

I don't think you should spend too much time trying to understand that. It isn't a "reason" so much as an "excuse."

I wonder if him attacking on the day students were taking final exams was a bit "symbolic" for him. This wasn't an ordinary day--it was the day when the students were ready to pass their exams and start their adult lives (I'm assuming "secondary school" in Austria is like high school in the US). If he can't have a successful adulthood, nobody can.

Today I heard a brief radio news-report about this, and they said his motive is unknown and that he left a note but it didn't give a motive. In my opinion, they are purposely holding back so that he won't gain "sympathy."

It really has me thinking about the pros and cons of releasing what these murderers say in their notes.

I lean toward it should not be released nor published. Although the public wants answers but also doesn't want these murderers to gain "fame."
But on some level, they are all copycat crimes, so the less said about the shooters, the better. Focus on the victims.

Neighbors speak of Graz attacker.

"Fear and disbelief have gripped the quiet suburbs of Graz
after one of the most tragic shootings in Austrian history.

The perpetrator, 21-year-old Arthur A.,
remained almost completely anonymous to his neighbors during the five years he spent in the Kalsdorf commune.

'Nobody knew him',
says Deputy Mayor Sabine Jakubzig.
He lived with his mother and older brother.
According to the portal oe24.pl,
his father, an Armenian, abandoned the family.

The 21-year-old did not attend events,
did not use the youth center
and did not integrate with his peers.

'We only saw him coming and going.
He was dressed in dark clothes,
he wore a cap'.

'He was very withdrawn,
his face was always slightly covered,

Austrian authorities have announced
that a teenager with Polish citizenship was among the ten people killed in Tuesday's school shooting in Graz.

The information was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in an interview with Polish Radio.

The media reported that the perpetrator had felt harassed at school,
but these reports have not been confirmed by the services.

The police in Styria appealed on the X website to avoid speculation about the perpetrator and the incident,
reminding that such publications may be illegal and entail consequences.

'This tragedy probably could not have been predicted.
But questions remain:
could it have been prevented,
can such events be prevented in the future? (...)

As with other such tragedies,
we are left with more questions than answers',
