This means that the murder of Ms. Begay is most likely a separate incident altogether. We can now begin to focus on the party and any timeline/behavior aberrations.

I noticed you said "most likely" and I think that is safe to say right now, so thank you. The timing is still odd though.

Tempe Town Lake is the body of water marked as the Salt River on that map - TTL is merely a reservoir that feeds into the Salt River, which is currently bone dry.

Thank you Az!

i'll admit, when i was young and would get into "arguments" with boyfriends, i'd always want to go back to be with them after the argument ended. i wonder if there were any texts between the two that could indicate that things calmed down? from what it seems like is that the bf was either so mad that he just ignored her texts & calls, or he fell asleep. i can see how she might get all worked up again if she wasn't getting replies and want to go over and try to work it out again. man, i just wish she would have slept it off and tried again the next morning though. actually, i'd probably only feel like this if i felt like the argument was my fault.

Maybe she had more than one boyfriend? Maybe one of the boyfriends was jealous?

???

Has LE said anything lately ? I remember they saying the boyfriend had been cleared, but not specifying how he was cleared.

Mother of missing Tempe teen makes emotional plea for her safe return

Around 3:45 a.m. police said someone saw Salinas' car slam into the median, near Rio Salado and Ash, and then drive off with two flat tires.

She drove for less than a mile to Brown and Roosevelt, where she left her disabled car.

From there, police said Salinas walked about a quarter mile back to her apartment.

They believe she changed her clothes, leaving behind her keys and wallet, before taking off again.

Police said her cell phone either died or was turned off shortly after the call was placed.

The driver told police Salinas never showed up.

Tempe police told CBS 5 News they've seen the cabbie on the gas station's surveillance video – but, there's no sign of Salinas.

They interviewed him and searched his home.

Police said, at this time, the cab driver is not a suspect.

Someone mentioned the roommate's eyes shifted a little during the interview on tv. I'd like to see more of her "friends" interviewed... something is really gnawing on me inside that says the person of interest is right beneath LE noses. Then again, they probably know that which is why we aren't getting much information (aside from Mamacita's STELLAR timelines!!!). *shrug*

Is this confirmed? In other words, do police have video of her at 5:00? If so, then something happened to her within a seven minute span, and likely a two minute span (5:05 - 5:07). Odd.

I'm still not understanding why she left her apartment to meet a cab when most folks just have cabs pick them up where they live. Unless she was going to buy something?

Confusing case is confusing.

ETA: I don't think they actually cleared the boyfriend. They just said he's not a suspect or POI, IIRC. He had plenty of time to get from his apartment to her location by 5AM.

Mamacita, it was on our local news. I am searching the station videos for it and will post when I find it.

:banghead: I just lost my post!
I'll try it again.
One thought I keep coming back to is this; do we know if AS ever really left the apt that night/morning? I know there has been a sighting (around 5 am, I think) but I'm wondering if this person knew her or if it's someone who happened to see a young woman that resembles AS walking. Then once her face hit the news, that person thought that it was AS, kwim?
Cell phone Anyone who had the phone in their posession could have made those calls and text to her boyfriend and cab company.
Is it possible that the car accident wasn't an accident at all. Could have been a red herring to throw LE off the trail of what really happened.
And that time-line is just nuts.
What was she doing between 3am and 5am?
As far as her key & wallet being in the apt, I know that I've left my wallet at home if I was just going to run to the store. The key could be a duplicate.
But, she was supposedly going to bf's house, packed a bag, so to me it would be logical to take her wallet in that situation.
Does LE have independent sightings of AS? Other than room-mates and boyfriend.

ETA I'm going to float on Nancy Grace's coattails for a minute. On her show last night on baby Elaina, she commented that businesses that have X amount of dollars should have surveillance cameras on site. I'm gonna go 1 step further and would want them to keep all surveillance recordings be kept for 30 days. With most everything these days being digital, I wouldn't think that would be too much of an issue, but I'm not exactly tech-savvy.

They're saying the bag she packed was not in the vehicle (and hasn't shown up) but her wallet and key(s?) were at her apartment. Why would she bother to take the bag of clothing with her but not her key or wallet?

Also - if the car's impact was great enough to burst two tires, wouldn't the airbags have deployed? She should have some facial or physical trauma from that (I had what looked like a rug burn for weeks after my accident).

And, while it's a longshot, in the video I posted above, the camera pans the neighborhood where the car was located. There is a boarded up home on the corner... certainly they would check that out, right?

Possible, but not in all cases. She could have just hit the curb and slightly bent the wheels, which would cause the tires to go flat slowly. It is doubtful that the tires were completely flat while she was driving home, if at all until the next day. It could have caused a slow leak in both, resulting in complete flats by the time her car was found. Again, she would not have been able to drive her car that far with two flat front tires. The airbags would most likely not have deployed under such circumstances.

That's a good idea. I hope LE is focusing on that area too. I particularly hope they are looking at cameras in the area to see if they notice any cars that look familiar after checking who drove what to and from the party - as well as her boyfriend's car and alibi. I hope they're also looking into everyone's cell activity.

I feel that within the timeframe she went missing from when she was purportedly last seen (within 5-7 minutes) that someone could have left the party (if there were a few scragglers left) and 'volunteered' to drive her to her boyfriend's place. Could have been someone with a hidden crush/obsession.

Still having a hard time marrying the idea that she left her place to go call a cab. I suppose it's possible, but odd nonetheless.

That's what I'm thinking...

Also, I'm right there with you on the cab scenario. Maybe she thought it would be easier to find the AM/PM than her apartment? But then, we have the wallet at home which would lead one to believe she never called a cab (assuming her debit/credit/cash was in the wallet).

So the person who made the 911 call thinks there were TWO people in the car. http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/regio...friends-step-up-search-for-missing-Tempe-girl

Hmm. I heard that on the video too. Also seems like the tires were flat right after the accident. I'm surprised about that - especially that she (or someone else) was able to drive it as far as she did and that no one else noticed a car driving with two flat front tires. It's very difficult to steer a car with one flat front tire, much less two. It would be noticeable and highly suspect to anyone within visual range.

Anyway - so if she had someone with her, who was it? It had to be a friendly, because she drove back to her apartment, went inside, and came back out.

Something is up here that we're just not able to tie together yet.

You know what? There is an entirely different yet perfectly plausible scenario that we haven't considered:

She decided against the cab for some reason or another (tired?), walked back to her apartment, and something happened there. Or - she walked back, left with someone who was either there or came and picked her up, and something happened.

This actually makes sense, in that her keys and wallet were at the apartment. It also gave someone a heck of a long time to 'handle the situation' and then come up with a storyline.

Just sayin'

  • #239
The thing here that's bothering me was in the video that was posted earlier it was reported they had up to 40 people at their apartment, and that there was more than just the one roommate. Now I know when I was living with other girls and we had those parties there were people that hung out all night (too drunk to drive and crashed there or whatever), and usually our boyfriends (or some boy of interest) stayed as well. With that you would think there would of been at least a few people to say this is what happened, but the stories are conflicting. That could be a case of reports differing, but it doesn't feel that way. It doesn't feel right. It just doesn't.

I had mentioned this possibility a few pages back, it seemed either she was with someone in the car, or was not in the car at all. It just seemed plausible that she would be with someone else in the car when it crashed. I think everyone's posts and thoughts are starting to form a clearer picture of what happened that night. It was most certainly not random
