Day 3, July 11, 2023 recap
Prosecutors asked John Turney if his relationship changed with Alissa before her disappearance. He said no he was just as close with her. He said they did have an aunt in CA (she has since passed away) but he was the closest in the family to her. John says he has never heard from Alissa since she disappeared in May 2001.
During cross examination, defense attorneys work to show that parenting two girls was difficult and something Michael had not done before.
Catching up…cross examination focused on would Alissa know how to get out of the house without being seen. Remember we have seen footage taken from inside and outside the family’s home, but apparently the day of Alissa’s disappearance there are no tapes. Defense attorneys also focused questioning on the efforts they say Michael went to to search for Alissa.
John Turney said that information on Alissa’s search and the efforts to find her were coming from other people including Michael.
Defense attorneys are continually trying to prove Alissa wanted her own freedom. Prosecutors on redirect asked John if Alissa seemed to want freedom from him he said no.
James Turney Alissa’s stepbrother also testifying today, saying his dad (Micheal) told him at one point that Alissa was killed by two electrical workers. He says he didn’t find out until the police raided the house that Michael picked Alissa up early from school the day she disappeared.
He claims Michael told him about an alleged phone call from Alissa (a pay phone in California). We have heard this claim before. He says Michael told him all he heard was static thought and Michael asked if it was Alissa.
