Kids rescued from hot car as their father was inside a Phoenix adult store, investigators say

Four kids were rescued from a parked car in Phoenix on Thursday afternoon while investigators say their father was inside an adult store.

"Officers did follow up attempting to locate the owner of the car and responsible party to the children. While doing so they contacted the father of the children, identified as 38-year-old Ascencio Largo, inside of a nearby business. It was later learned that Largo entered this business just short of an hour prior to police arrival on scene," Phoenix Police said.

Looks like the article says he had a court hearing, but not finding him in Maricopa County. Phoenix IS in Maricopa county....

What a miracle they were found in time. There has been a sudden surge of hot car deaths the past few weeks. It's heartbreaking and frustrating.

Horrendous what this father did. For sure those four little children could have died. 125 degrees inside the car and each of the children were found to have temperatures of a 100 degrees. I hope to goodness he has to pay the price for what he has done.

and before someone comes along to suggest the 7 year old is old enough to know how to get themself and siblings out of the hot car, I am willing to be the children were too terrified to do so because they were likely threatened by their father with serious consequences if they did. JMO

Case info: Four kids were rescued from a parked car in Phoenix on Thursday, July 24, 2025 afternoon [amid triple-digit temps] while investigators say their father was inside an adult store. Police arrived & were able to rescue them from the heat before taking them to the hospital. Their father, Ascencio Largo, 38, was booked into jail and is accused of several child abuse charges. The four young kids, ages 2, 3, 4 & 7, were put into an air-conditioned police SUV & were given water. According to court documents, police noted a smell of alcohol on Largo. His license also had an ignition interlock restriction, but his car did not have the device. Largo is accused of four counts of child abuse & four counts of endangerment. At around the time the kids were rescued from the car, it was about 104 degrees in Phoenix, the National Weather Service's website states. Police say the inside of the car was around 125 degrees.

Absolutely not a reasonable suggestion even without threats. A 7yo by himself maybe could get out (although in my state it's illegal to leave a child that young in a car). But a 7yo can't tell if a younger child is getting overheated, and they certainly couldn't supervise a 2, 3, and 4yo in a parking lot.

Largo first appeared in court on Friday, public records indicate. The judge set his bail at $5,000 and ordered Largo to stay away from his children, who are currently with their mother, according to AZ Family.
The judge tore into Largo at his first court appearance.

“The police allege that they went into the store, called out many times, nobody came out and they allege that when you came out you attempted to pretend like it wasn’t your car,” the judge said, according to AZ Family. “It indicates a strong level of reckless culpability.”

“You are presumed innocent, but what the police are alleging could have resulted in, you know, the kind of story that gets picked up on international news wires. Man goes into store leaving his four children to die in their car,” she added.
