GUILTY AZ - Dale Harrell, 34, beaten to death, Gilbert, 14 Jan 2009 #3

Makes me suspicious that maybe a juror is "sick" because they just can't make themselves agree with the death sentence. Anxiety level is most likely about as high as it can get. Having four days to think about it and dread it would make it worse IMO.

I agree!

There ought to be a more objective way of deciding whether a criminal should get the death penalty or not. The only mitigating factors that are relevant include age (being a minor) and history of mental illness. Not that I believe the 'he abused me' story but even abuse cannot be a mitigating factor. We don't even like to believe in the principle of 'an eye for an eye' so how are we accepting these ridiculous defences? 'He hit me, forced me to have sex so I just gutted him!'? Even real, verified abuse justifies torture and murder? No way! No freakin' way!

If, even as an abused man or woman you murder someone in the most cruel way then you deserve the death penalty! The kind of evil it takes to murder someone the way Arias or Devault did is just frightening.

Let's hope the jury is well enough to render a verdict this afternoon.

Maybe I'm ignorant but I really do not understand why people find it so very hard to sentence an evil woman to death. Someone who used a hammer to savagely murder her husband and then laughed about it? I don't understand it especially because these jurors said they believe in the death penalty! They said they could. And this is one of those especially cruel situations. And it's not like they are the ones physically injecting the needle. I'd think twice about criminals who did not torture their victims, who are honest and remorseful (which requires honesty), kids (and I don't mean a woman in her early 30's like Arias!). I wouldn't think twice about recommending the death penalty for those who use knives and hammers to slaughter their victims and then pretend to be victims themselves! I wouldn't hesitate at all and I would be able to sleep just fine with my conscience crystal clear.

And the DP is generally administered more humanely than the murderer. :banghead:

Good morning WS Friends:seeya:

Wonder if this jury can put in a full day of work and reach an agreement. This has become a most annoying trial. Unfortunately I am a trial addict and can not force myself away without experiencing withdrawal symptoms.:blushing:

edit: Oh I forgot. Jury not reporting until 1 p.m. OK, so let's hope jury can put in three-hours of work.....GROAN!

Just a reminder I will be at the #MarissaDevault trial today waiting on a verdict 1pm MT/ 4pm ET

Forgot not till 4 PM today (for us in ET)

Seriously, not wanting to keep picking at AZ...
But WHY!?!
I have watched trials in NC, FLA, TX and they don't seem to have issues like this, so it can not be because "judge has other business, courtroom booked for something else, etc.".
Why is AZ so goofy about trial scheduling??????

We need a 12 step program on how to quit watching AZ trials and move on to other states. For me, personally, Juan the wonderful Martinez is what holds me back. I only became interested in this trial because Devault is Arias' 'friend' in jail. How can I possibly go back to watching or cheering for other prosecutors now? I'm convinced that JM is the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. :loveyou::blushing:

Yuck..........the wind's blowing like a banshee and it's colder than a well digger's behind! 56 degrees, NOT factoring in the wind chill, DANGIT! It's almost May!!!

(OT: I seriously cannot get into a trial where mental disorders are evident. Read the entire thread on Julie Schenecker and it just hits too close to home. Watched the video when she was picked up at the house........she looked like a deer in the headlights, something I had seen personally many, many times with the ex-husband when he was in a psychotic episode. You can't really understand the full picture of bipolar with added mental disorders until you experience being around someone with it. They are on an entirely different plain of reality that is REAL to them. Very real. Until they can be "brought back" through medication, usually lithium, they have no idea how skewed their reality really is.
What a terrible tragedy.)

No more "play dates" with the katz!!!! Woot, woot! When I went over there yesterday, one of them had crawled under the comforter on the bed, just a lump the size of a head! I'm calling, "Here, kitty, kitty" and there's this "lump"...........visions of the "Godfather" and the horse head....dut, dut duhhhh!!! My son got back last night, YAH!!!:loveyou:

Sooooooooooo.............CMMD......will she ever get into the DOC? Will the jury be hung? Will they give her the big DP? Are they REALLY going to start at 1:00? And how much more of these delays can we take before going totally nutz?!?!?!?!?! :banghead:

Seriously, Juan is da man!!!

Can you think of any other Prosecutor you enjoy watching?

All I can think of is Vincent Bugliosi.

On the other side of the coin, Richard "Racehorse" Haynes is one to mention.

Anyone remember:

"Say you sue me because you say my dog bit you. Well, now this is my defense:
My dog doesn't bite.
And second, in the alternative, my dog was tied up that night.
And third, I don't believe you really got bit.
And fourth, I don't have a dog."

We got winds today too, and yesterday, and the day before. Tis the season here in the SW. Better than digging snow back where I came from and a good excuse to stay inside, where there is better visibility.

Listening to some of JS trial jury selection. I've got a lot of respect for mental illness when it is real. nuf said on that for now.

I catsit a neighbor's kitties from time-to-time. Don't enjoy it much cuz her cats aren't as adorable as mine and I keep having to resist cleaning her house.

There is something odd about that MD jury. The entire case is just weird imo. Anyway, that's all I got for now except to add that I am extremely grateful for WS.

Bugliosi and Manson got me started down this road.

Had to look up Haynes for a refresher on alternative pleading.

Boz Zellinger in Wake County, NC.
I enjoy watching him, but likely because both cases he nailed it!
He is running for DA now though :(

So...are they there yet?

ETA: I guess they still have about an hour, oops. lol

  • #139
Being negative Nelly today...

I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to take another day off at the last minute today.
Or continue deliberations with no verdict.
Or give us the hung jury verdict.

Least likely is that they will actually have a proper verdict today.

Actually I'll be pleasantly surprised if at least one juror holds firm for death despite MV being a 'mother'.
