Now, another Valley woman is also speaking out, saying Johnson absconded with her son to protect him from his father.
"She's completely innocent," said Tammi Fay Smith, who wanted to adopt Gabriel. "She loves that baby, and just wants to find a good home for that baby. As a mother, I commend her."
McQueary said Johson had been pushing him to sign adoption papers granting Smith custody of Gabriel, and that after the baby disappeared, Smith approached him with similar requests.
"When Gabriel dissapeared, they said basically, 'if you really care about your son and you want him back, and you want Elizabeth to bring him back, that you'll sign the paperwork and then she'll bring him back to us, and you'll know he's safe,'" said McQueary. "I said, 'no, I'm not signing any paperwork.'"

A family with the last name of Smith has come forward claiming Elizabeth had already contacted them about adopting Gabriel. They said they agreed. They've even shown the paperwork that they signed along with Elizabeth. But McQueary refused to sign, and soon after was when Elizabeth took off.
The Smith family has come forward claiming Elizabeth was afraid of McQueary. The Smiths claim that McQueary was the one who threatened to hurt Elizabeth and Gabriel. They also claim that Elizabeth is willing to go to jail in order to protect her son.

In front of a panel of reporters and with his father, Frank, by his side,
McQueary said he had been approached by the prospective parents, begging him to sign paperwork and insisting Johnson wouldn't come back until he did.
McQueary again refused.
The couple hoping to adopt are not speaking to police, and investigators have searched their home to be sure the child wasn't with them, said Sgt. Steve Carbajal, a Tempe police spokesman

They say they didn't involve the father, Logan McQueary in the adoption procedures because Elizabeth Johnson told them he was abusive.
"As soon as she got away from Logan and we had the baby, and he was not a part of her life, all of the sudden she had a bright cheery attitude about herself," said Tammi Smith.
But at an emotional press conference Monday,
McQueary told CBS5 that after Gabriel disappeared, the Smiths tried to strong-arm him into giving up his child.
"When Gabriel disappeared, they said to me basically if you really care about your son and you want him back and you want Elizabeth to bring him back, than you'll sign the paperwork and she'll bring him back," said Logan McQueary.
The Smiths said they were only passing along the messages they were getting from Elizabeth. They also say they are cooperating fully with the investigation and no longer believe the adoption is possible.
"Now the father is so deeply into this that his ego would never allow him to sign papers," said Smith
But they still may have a role to play. The Smiths believe Elizabeth Johnson will tell them Gabriel's location Tuesday.
"She wants to talk to me tomorrow at 2 o'clock to see if I will help her with attorneys to gain custody of Gabriel. If she hurt the baby, I don't think she would be trying to get custody," Tammi Smith said.

The couple, Tammi and Jack Smith, said they had been working with Johnson and McQueary for the last seven months about adopting the child but would not reveal the details surrounding the adoption.
“Both of them supported the adoption, but for some reason, Logan got cold feet at the last minute,” Tammi Smith said.
Smith also said she spoke with Johnson, who called her from the jail on Tuesday, but she did not disclose the whereabouts of Gabriel.
McQueary also said Tuesday that he never spoke to the Smiths until Dec. 19, when he found out about them through a Child Protective Services report when Johnson was trying to file a complaint of abandonment, claiming McQueary had not seen the child for 30 days.
Johnson had apparently been talking to the Smiths about adopting Gabriel after they met her on a plane while she was coming back from Boston, according to McQueary.
“I never talked to them about any adoption,” McQueary said. “I had no clue. I told them there was no way in hell I’m giving up my son for adoption. I wanted my son. She was pretty secretive about it.”
