A construction project on an Arizona road led to a dark discovery.

While working on a road-widening project on the corner of Twin Peaks Road and Silverbell Road in Marana, Ariz., a road construction crew located human remains on Thursday, June 12, according to local outlets KOLD, KGUN and KVOA.

The crew was doing excavation work when they made the discovery, which was on formerly private land recently acquired by the town of Marana, according to KOLD, a CBS affiliate, and KGUN, an ABC affiliate.

After locating what they believed to be possible human remains, the crew notified the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD), and deputies with the department’s Tucson Mountain District confirmed the finding, per KGUN. The scene of the discovery was subsequently secured.

Thinking about Alissa Turney. It’s not far from Phoenix and the timeline matches……MOO

Apparently it was a known grave from 1976 that lost its marker. I guess maybe somebody wanted to be buried at home? Not a missing person, anyway.

According to a news release issued by the Pima County Sheriff's Department, the remains found at a construction site on Twin Peaks Road near Silverbell Road were legally buried on private property in 1976.

The grave was properly marked, but over time the markings of the site were lost and the exact location was no longer discernable, the news release said.
