What are "swamp coolers"? Do they run all night and would they be loud enough to block out noise?

I keep a fan running in my bedroom during the night so I won't be disturbed.

If an air conditioner or something similar was running in the Celis's house during the night, that might allow someone to enter and exit the house without disturbing the sleeping occupants.

I had to Google, didn't know what it was either! :waitasec:

In the aerial view there is a what looks to be a a/c unit on the roof of the home. I recall looking at aerials of the FLDS compounds and wondering what in the world those big things were on the roof then I found out-one does not see that in Indiana!

Welcome, Knicksfan! Websleuths has the finest web sleuths in the world, imo.

I have wondered about the trash pickup but do know there was brush and bulky pickup going on there last week, don't know that they do that on Saturday.

However the businesses around the area possibly/probably don't use city pickup but one of the private companies around town and they may pick up on Saturdays...

FWIW I have a relative in the radius they were door knocking, she says she was visited twice, once by TPD officer and the second time by Border Patrol...believe she said it was Saturday and today...she was not clear on when the second time was.

I used to have a swamp cooler when I lived in the Mojave desert. Some of them can be quite loud!

Thanks, I thought she was a bit older than that due to her being in the first grade. Unless the cut off date for starting school is different in AZ than it is here. My daughter was born 11/25/04 and is in the first grade. The cut off here is you have to be 5 by June 1 to start kg the same year.

I am still not clear on if she went to bed at 11pm or if that is when the parents went to bed and checked on her. Not too late for a non-school night imo but all kids are different. My 7yo does ok with 9 hrs. sleep where as when my older daughter was that age she needed more.

Twall, it's been reported both ways. Either she was put to bed at 11pm, or her parents last saw her in her bed at 11pm. I'm holding off on that for a while.

I have seen it both ways. My guess is that she fell asleep in the car on the way home from somewhere or on the couch watching a family movie. Having older brothers might mean they went out to sports events or something that would be late for a 6 yr old.

But they may have taken a sleeping 6 yr old to her room at 11 pm. imo.

I didn't notice any air conditioners in the windows and have never seen an a/c unit on the roof of a house so I'm glad you noticed it.

FWIW,
I put my 4 YO GS to bed at 7:30 and that child is still in there singing to himself. (10:30 p here now)
He got up for school at 6:30 this morning.

Some kids function fine on less sleep.
I DO wish he slept more so that I could too though! :)

somehow I think I read/heard that she went to a birthday party that Friday or the day before.
does that sound familiar to anyone.
My brain/memory is swimming right now.

Weird that a lot of missing kids attend parties just before they go missing.Either their own or someone eslse's...MOO

What about a whole house fan? Those are noisy and they require windows to be open for them to work. They are installed in the ceiling and draw air from ground level, through the attic and out the attic vents...I think.

My sis had one in KS. It was kinda' noisy but not excessively so. After a while I did not even notice it.

It wouldn't show from the outside.
Do they use those in Tuscon?

I hate these kind of cases. We have heard that Isabel was last seen around 11:00 pm when either she went to bed, or her parents went to bed and checked on her. Have we heard anything about when the Mom went to work that morning? Did she stop to check on her before heading out? I usually do if I am leaving early before my kids get up, but not always.

Well, cheer up. :) Maybe he'll be like I was, and start sneaking down the hall to quietly watch your TV from around the corner (where you can't see him). And if anyone gets up, go zooming back into bed. ;)

I have an almost 4 year old that regularly falls asleep around midnight or 1am and gets right up at 7:30am.

Yay. :what:

On NG, the Tucson PD PIO said that the mom left for work around 7:30 am. They wouldn't comment on whether or not she checked on Isa before leaving the house. They also wouldn't confirm which parent put Isa to bed the night before.

To each his own, and maybe I'm just old-fashioned. As a mother, grandmother, and former teacher, I believe that a 6-year-old youngster needs more sleep following a full week in school and participating in extra-curricular activities. :moo:
I wouldn't say 'old fashioned', as my great aunt (long gone and I'd guess MANY years older than you) let my school-age cousins stay up on Fridays as long as they wanted as a end-of-the-week treat. She was a mother, grand mother, and great grandmother when she died many years ago. And a teacher (retired for many years when she died). As a child, I loved staying over with my cousins on Friday nights as we got to stay up past my usual Friday bedtime. My usual Friday bedtime? A full 30 or so minutes earlier than when we'd all conk out at my great aunt's house. My much more rigid mother let us stay up until 9:30/10 on Fridays (even with extra-curriculuar events on the weekends). My great aunt's 'open' Friday bedtime usually resulted in my cousins and I crashing in front of the TV or in beds at 10:30 or 11 at the latest. And we had an awesome time.

I've instituted an 'open' Friday bedtime for my own young children. They love it and look forward to Friday nights when they can stay up late. And though they usually stay up about 30 or so minutes later than their usual bedtime (as was the case when I was a child), it's a treat for them, the freedom one day of the week to stay up past their usual bedtime. AND, shockingly, I allow them to do so even if they have an 'event' (party, team sports event) the next day. The occasional nights they've stayed up past that extra 30 minutes hasn't affected their Saturday outlook/behavior either at home or during extra-curricular activities. I didn't really affect me as a child either...but some kids need a lot of sleep and some do just fine with less...there's no formula that fits everyone.

So, no, I wasn't shocked by the 11 bedtime (if it WAS the bedtime rather than when the parents last checked before heading to bed) given that it was a weekend and especially a Friday. If it were a week night, I'd be a bit more surprised. But late weekend bedtimes (yes, even for a 6-year-old child with extra-curricular activities the next day) isn't all that unusual in my own experience.

Point of entry to yard (besides jumping over the fence) which is surrounded by a fence on all sides-
I just "walked" around the house as best as I could on Google map (link below), couldn't go down the back alley or side of house next to neighbors. I found a "door" or "gate" in front next to garage. I think I see hinges on what looks to be a wooden fence on the side of the home next to the businesses. They are far apart, looks like the fence opens large enough for a vehicle to drive in but I do not think it would be easy to open, looks heavy and low to the ground. JMO

I saw the gate, too. This google image was taken a couple of years ago...doubt the gate had a lock on it, looks like a perfect way to get out of the yard imo....
