Like some of you, I also feel that too much weight is being given to the dogs also. There are too many variables to be discussed for it to matter. Until we have the facts, we just don't know. They could have slept far away from Isabel's room and not heard anything.
I think the reason why we are questioning this so much is because a dog's barking sends out an alert that a stranger is present. If the person responsible was a family member or "known" person, then they wouldn't bark.
I, for one, am not ready to blame the parents. I think that the quick 911 call is enough evidence for me (at the moment) to hold onto hope that they are innocent. Mom was at work and left immediately to come home after she was notified of her daughter's disappearance.
That certainly could point that the person was known to the family and that is why they didn't bark.
However; we have two inside doggies and if anyone even drives up in our driveway or comes to our door whether it is a stranger or even our own family members.. they are going to let us know someone is here.

My hubby works during the day and I dont open my door to a stranger ...not even the UPS man that has been coming to our home for 20 years because I would never want our dogs to bite anyone unless of course it was an intruder. He knows about our dogs and places our packages down in front of our door..knocks on the glass and waves..then he is off to another stop.
But we dont rely on them to keep us safe for we know dogs are like humans and can be very unpredictable.
