Ohhhhhhhhhhh yeeaaahhh, I forgot, this is the Bash NG thread. But reference her every other page, lol.

Sometimes she's the only person talking about a case, which is why we reference her. And it's great that she will talk about cases that no one else does.

But for those of us who value accuracy, because it is impossible to sleuth without it, NG can be very frustrating. We who have followed several cases from beginning to end, have noted repeated complete misinformation stated as fact on her show. It is so rampant that many of us believe she is more like a tabloid than a valid news source and many thus feel we cannot rely on a thing she says.

IMO, I think, if we post stuff that was reported on/by Nancy Grace, then perhaps we should reference it came from Nancy's show.

I look at it this way, LE would have told the media, they are doing this, or that etc., rather then it showing up on Nancy Grace and scrambling for the info, when LE has press conferences and basically say nothing.

Nancy Grace is linkable (HLN/CNN). Whether anyone chooses to believe her reporting is a personal choice (as with any other media reports).

peeps.. if you want to complain about Nancy Grace take it to the basement. :nurse:

Thank you Nursebeeme! I like Nancy. Please don't throw tomatos! LOL

Also, the bashing on NG last night was too much to handle. I don't like the show but the idea that she and her producers flat-out make stuff up is, to me, beyond the pale.

This show gets big ratings, and as a result, LE no doubt responds to calls from them. I used to work in the media, and, yeah, things have deteriorated, but not to the point where they're making things up night after night, day after day.

SOmething to remember is reporters all have contacts. They have sources. Things are said off the record ALL THE TIME to reporters. Sometimes they'll say it's ok to run with something but not identify them by name, thus "sources." But the idea that they need to make stuff up constantly is just not true. They already have plenty to work with.

When we are hearing the same things NG hears, and then she reports a "bombshell" and her "translation" of it is completely different than even the information she gives - she is making stuff up. That show exists solely for the ratings. Yes she focuses on these cases, and I am grateful, but that does not give anybody the right to mislead the public.

It's called sources, that what makes the media wheel turn. There would be no news without them.

What I was trying to do is when we post what is stated on Nancy's show, that we mention it comes from the show.

I thought what was posted earlier about what LE plans on doing came from the presser, and I went nuts looking for it. HOWEVER, it was what was reported on Nancy's show.

Example:

Nancy producer: reporting this or that

Greg means nothing to me when reading the thread, but Greg (NG Show) then that means something to me.

I don't know LE by their first names nor do I know the producers of Nancy's show by their names.

Gitana, she is tabloid, and the show's not my cup of tea, but the entire show isn't made up, for goodness sakes. A lot - and I mean a LOT - of credible people go on that show and they wouldn't risk their reputations if it were such a sea of misinformation.

Also, just a reminder that even tabloids can produce credible reporting: The National Enquirer was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of the Edwards case in 2010. I never thought I'd live to see it, but they deserved the nomination.

Obviously people have to be judicious when deciding which media are credible. But that goes for all media - local, national, social. Once again, I dislike the generalizations that tend to abound here.

Nurse,
All I was trying to do is make things easier when writing "Greg say this or that." I have NO clue who Greg is and for all I know, Greg is LE. However, if we wrote Greg (NG) then at least we have an idea where to look for the info.

We were looking for a certain statement that was posted, of which, a few of us thought it came from LE press conference yesterday, however, it came from Greg on Nancy's show.

Make any sense?

Anything you hear from any media source may or may not be true. I'm not a big Nancy Grace fan, but I doubt she seriously makes up information. She has sources just like any other news show or newspaper.

And sorry, but just because the police state something, that does not make it fact. Unless you are a member of LE investigating a certain case, you really have no idea what is or is not fact.

I have to keep in mind what LE stated at the press conference regarding "social media" sites giving out the wrong information.

HLN has social media sites. FWIW

It suprised me they admitted it on national tv. I am still in shock over that one.

They had to. If/when this comes to a trial, the defense attorney would be all over it, claiming LE influenced the public by showing videos of a person lurking in the neighborhood from the wrong day.

JVM talking about Isobel..trying to tie the cases together in Tucson...
BUT...coming up, news on the Kardashians lol

Detectives continue to work hard to find Isabel, but Pacheco said the “sensitive” nature of the investigation limits how much he can share with the public.
“Sometimes these things take a long, long time,” Pacheco said of solving cases of missing children, adding that he hopes that is not the case in the search for Isabel.
Pacheco also said he hopes Isabel’s family does more to reach out to the public.

According to Jane/Issues, the mother and three girls are on their way back to Hawaii.

Me: (Interesting)

I have learned through the Sierra Lamar case sadly I don't trust any media whatsoever. In that case when the clothes were reported I did a quick look on yahoo . Half the sites had it a T- shirt half had it a jersey found. To this day we don't know what it is. In this case unless I hear it out of the LE mouths I take nothing as gospel anymore JMHO .

Jane/Issues reporter: Grandfather of the victims says his granddaughters are doing fine.

Look at this satellite image map of the neighborhood where the three little girls were attacked. There's maybe a dozen houses out in a rural area! How would the perp know these little girls were there unless he lives right there. No way he wandered in from the desert and happened upon them

11100 E Mountain Gate Pl Tucson, AZ 85749 - Google Maps

I wonder if there are any Tucson Academy students living there. Or ball players? Something that could connect Isa to the little girls.

JVM has a guest on who said many women were targeted by a Peeping Tom who all lived w/in a few blocks of each other-did she say it was in Tucson?

  • #378
JVM has a neighbor of breakin/assault victims on saying her and her husband spotted a Peeping Tom in the neighborhood 2 years ago (?). When talking to detectives about it they were told there was a "team" of 2 peeping toms in the area, then she said she did see a truck connected to this. (JVM relates this to Isabels neighbor hearing 2 male voices).

Neighbor (of breakin/assaults) says many women in the neighborhood have reported seeing peeping toms, screens moved, and stools under windows.

Edit: I believe this particular neighbor actually moved out due to this issue.

all I have to add now..
I wonder how many people who didn't realize there were so many internet forums are now googling to find out what the crazy theories are, thanks to the presser. Are we seeing more visitors than normal?

and, off topic but slow news day, I had a peeping tom once. Back in college when I lived in a ground level apartment. Never knew until I was walking in my back "yard" and saw a heap of old and new cigarette butts next to the AC box RIGHT OUTSIDE MY BEDROOM WINDOW. Someone had been sitting there, watching me, and SMOKING. Guess he felt pretty comfortable. I had my cousin spend the night and watch out of the LR window, he caught the guy (with a broomstick). We were such dumb young kids, no one called the cops... I guess the fear of him breaking in and raping me wasn't on my mind, I was just so grossed out by him watching me.

If there are outlandish theories that are getting out of hand, why would the family have to be the one to clear those up? Why couldn't Pacheco just clear it up at the presser?

That's what I'm wondering. Would it really have been that tough to say, "There's been chatter about X. We've investigated and ruled out such speculation."?

I find LE far more puzzling than the family in this case.
