"I swear I won't ever be able to smell bleach or incense without thinking about this. I am heartbroken and drained to elaborate further. That may be a good thing, because anything I have to say will surely be deleted by mods. I am pretty sure most of you feel the same way"

Oh trust me I am right there with you. I live in the PHX area and I am trying to avoid the temptation of going to that jail and having it out with the ignorant grandparents and whoever else is supporting this pathetic excuse for a mom. If I show up there's gonna be a fight. A big one. Then I'll be in the chokey right with Jerice.

how many people had to step away from this "bleach, incense, dead body smells, abuse conversation?

I KNOW I DID.

this is HORRIBLE!

This is absolutely horrible.. I pray to God and all things Holy that these kids are protected as they most obviously will have to testify at some point.. I pray they know they are safe now and can continue to say what they know... knowing full well that the center of their nightmares is behind bars.

Thank you kids for speaking out and doing the right thing for your sister. It is NOT YOUR FAULT.

The pictures of Jhessye that the cousins had taken, are so beautiful. Joy and happiness radiates from her eyes. And that smile, so precious. I'm going to focus on that period of her life when I think of her. She was obviously cherished and loved. I hope the cousin's faith sees them through this loss. Bless them for speaking to LE and advocating for Jhessye from the get-go.

As for the siblings. I want both AZ & CA CPS cases to be investigated. If negligence exists (which I believe it does), a civil suit filed on their behalf. I want them to have the best of the best in counseling for years to come, with no consideration to expense. I want them to be brought back together and placed in a loving, home with no other foster children and adults who are experienced in dealing with this kind of trauma.

I hope they never have to see their incubator's face again, especially not in a court of law.

I hope Shirley Johnson is found guilty of of criminal wrongdoing in all of this and the children will never see her again either. I'm almost as angry with her, as I am with Jerice and I want her to pay!! The way she used racial discrimination as her banner and shield, when all along her own daughter was guilty, is beyond words I can describe. The family knew Jhessye was being abused, they were ALL talking about it from the moment she disappeared. Johnson knew this, there is no doubt in my mind she was told. But her concern for herself outweighed that for her own Grandchildren and she tried to SAVE HER OWN A$$ by deflecting and ranting!!!!!! If Jerice's claims (2006 court docs) are true, Shirley Johnson taught her how to abuse. Her culpability runs deep and wide in so many ways, MOO.

I want to ask all of you ... Do you think Jerice will confess and tell us where sweet Jhessye is?

Ch. 12 news just had a story on this. Jerice has 7 kids from who knows how many baby daddies. She actually has a few supporters picketing for her outside the 4th ave jail, one being her father who is a Reverand. He says Jerice is a good loving mom. Wow this families definition of good mother is really screwed up. Kim Covington interviewed the missing girls great aunt..who broke down after reading todays reports. The aunt seems convinced that Jerice probably had something to do with the little girls disappearance. You are right this whole case is beginning to look hauntingly familiar. AKA Caylee Anthony right down to the enabler parents of this monster that appear to be totally clueless and supportive of their daughter.

BTW Jerice has the nerve to call her 5 year old daughter "a Ho". Well ain't that the pot calling the kettle black. How many baby daddies does she have?

Has the family not read the probable cause statement? Do they not believe each of Jhessye's siblings independent statements of Jhessye's time in that closet?

A man of God does not believe his own Grandchildren?

This heartbreaking news. I suspected the mother based on her prior convictions of abuse and her attitude toward finding her..

Any word yet on what she is pleading?

This heartbreaking news. I suspected the mother based on her prior convictions of abuse and her attitude toward finding her..

Any word yet on what she is pleading?

A court document detailing the allegations was released minutes after the girl's mother, Jerice Hunter, 38, had her first court appearance, during which she proclaimed her innocence. It included claims that Hunter told the girl's siblings to lie about her disappearance.

The document was released minutes after the girl's mother, Jerice Hunter, had her first court appearance, during which she proclaimed her innocence.

"I did plead not guilty, of course," said Hunter in court. The mother tested positive for THC, indicating marijuana use and was informed that she is now a suspect in a homicide.

The mother of the missing girl insisted she is not a flight risk and requested a lower bond. The court set her bond at $100,000 because of her history of child abuse and the seriousness of the charge against her.

Hunter's father, Jesse Johnson, said outside of Tuesday's court hearing that his daughter was innocent.

``It's a witch hunt,'' he said. ``I don't believe the police got this right. They're not going to find anything.''

In trying to understand this horror, I've been doing some reading. One of the first articles I pulled up is entitled "The Essential Role of an Enlightened Witness in Society", by Alice Miller, PhD., who is fairly well known for her work in the study of children and childhood issues. She works from the belief that adults who abuse were themselves abused as children. when abused children do not grow up to be abusers, it's because a "helpful witness" showed them love and acknowledged the injustice they suffered, even when the concerned person was powerless to stop it. She goes on to say:
After studying the matter for years, it seems clear to me that information about abuse inflicted during childhood is recorded in our body cells as a sort of memory, linked to repressed anxiety. If, lacking the aid of an enlightened witness, these memories fail to break through to consciousness, they often compel the person to violent acts that reproduce the abuse suffered in childhood, which was repressed in order to survive. The aim is to avoid the fear of powerlessness before a cruel adult. This fear can be eluded momentarily by creating situations in which one plays the active role, the role of the powerful, towards a powerless person.
So if the allegations of Jerice's childhood abuse at the hands of her mother are true, then I agree with you 100% that Shirley Johnson bears as much responsibility as her daughter for Jhessye's murder. It might even explain why Jerice continues to have children, to replenish her supply of powerless victims to counter her own feelings of powerlessness. IDK.

I'd be very surprised if she does. That will happen only if she sees it as a way to save her hide, imo.

Thank you Bessie, I'll read your reference. It always mystifies me why abusers, seemingly people who don't want children, continue to have them.

I am just heartbroken over this story. It hits close to home for me because Jhessye looks a lot like my 6 year old daughter who I adopted from foster care. She was the youngest of 8. My daughters story was one of simple neglect and a mother who was on drugs. No physical abuse thankfully. She has modeling pics like Jhesseye and has that same bright smile. I hold her so close and am so grateful I can give her a life she deserves. It took 4 years for her to be adopted because they kept giving her mother more time. Her older sibs won't have that chance sadly.

I am happy to hear the 13 year old is in a home with a foster parent who was caring and patient enough to make her feel safe enough to tell the truth. I pray that all of these children will find homes that can care for and treasure them.

I also pray that more people will have the courage to foster and adopt older children, especially children of color. These children tend to stay in the system much longer. Having a daughter of a different race has been such a blessing in our lives and I am touched that so many friends and family have been so welcoming and open. I wondered how it might be taken in our community and am so pleased that people are far more accepting than in the past.

I am just so sorry for Jhessye. So sorrythat she was failed by a broken system. I do not recall a case where children were returned to a situation this bad. My heart breaks for all of the children that continue to be failed.

Jhessye's last day at school was Thursday, September 22. She was reported missing Tuesday, October 11th.

That's thirteen missed school days. The school must have called Jerice more than once.

Initially she told them it was ringworm, then later she said Jhessye had pink eye.

Jerice had to make a move, I think the school was getting suspicious.

I was wondering that as well. Don't you have to have a doctor's note after so many days absent?

Jerice's bail has been set at $100K. Johnson said she had 6k of her own money set aside for a reward.

What do you want to bet, she finds another 4k and posts bail for the incubator.

At work, we ask for a Dr's note after three consecutive days missed. My kids were healthy and never missed more than a day or two, so I don't know about that.

That's waaayyyyy to low, IMO.

Lord, I hope she doesn't get bonded out. I have thoughts of her doing unspeakable things.
