LVD says it was ruled self-defense, that Alex died of a blood clot, and that she's the only one charged.

Lots of sustained objections, jury to disregard.

"It's a family tragedy, not a crime."

And with that, opening statements are done.

My notes about LVD's opening statement:
- Interesting way to start out, with this whole biography of her life with CV and the focus on "we always had max life insurance policies"
- I hate that she's using Tylee like this
- CV came back in "to receive his phone" - weird phrase, but sure
- LVD starts breaking into tears when talking about how Tylee was "protecting her"
- "Can I grab a tissue?" - definitely trying to win sympathy here
- How did CV's phone get into the rental car, LVD? Are we supposed to believe that a guy is chasing you with a bat and you don't drop his phone?
- "Family tragedy" x1
- Gee, LVD, wonder what else "the evidence will show"?

Nice story Lolo! Next time some violin music would be appreciated!

LVD is kidding the facts of the case.

I notice that she credits herself with helping Charles with his job, credits herself with raising five children...

Claims Charles and Tylee fought badly, needed counseling, turned physical. Says Charles pulled JJ out of special school. Claims she brought JJ back to AZ so he could return to his special school.

Claiming Charles began sending her threatening messages. Claims she wouldn't let him stay at the house because of the fights with Tylee. Claims she booked a hotel room for Charles to stay at.

Claims Charles was texting Adam Cox.

Claims left JJ, age 7, alone in a running car.

Now tears from LVD. Claims Tylee was awakened by Charles yelling. Claims Tylee came out with a bat to protect LVD. Then Charles and Alex fought for control of the bat. LVD claims she sent Tylee out to be with JJ, claims Charles chased her with a bat, Alex retrieved a gun, then she went outside -- five away, went to Burger King, drove to Walgreens to by flip-flops, since they had left without shoes.

Big pause because LVD had to get a tissue.
This is the kind of testimony where I always hear Juan Martinez's voice: "Were you crying" when you planned his death?

At this rate…. IMO seems likely the defendant / defense ‘counsel’ might say enough procedurally on the record to open all kind of lines of questioning, redirect, or even allowing for introduction of inadmissible evidence. The only question might be what the judge allows to occur in this courtroom. SMH. IANAL. MOO

Is any legal counsel sitting by LVD who can tell her when to object or is she on her own?

She had advisory counsel with her last week so I assume so.

Prosecutor Treena Kay’s opening statements today :

  • #329
She is trying to make the police witness confirm that Alex was correct in not giving Charles the CPR because the officer didn't do it either for fear of making it worse.

No CPR and no call to 911..... for 47 minutes.

Alex wasn't interested in life saving measures.

47 minutes later, it was too late for anyone to bother with CPR.

Self-defense but no one thought 911 should be called?

46 minutes of staging.

Hey, Lor, if you were so fearful -- you know, from being chased by Charles with a baseball bat, why dincha call 911 as soon as you drove the children to safety?
THIS!!! DOES SHE THINK NO ONE WILL NOTICE. Sorry for the all caps but I am screaming at the computer.

FYI

Judge just advised the jury they can write down questions for the witnesses and pass them in.

My notes on Irwin Wierzbicki (Chandler PD)'s testimony:
- LVD objects when prosecution asks about whether he saw shell casings - judge overrules
- LVD argues about what "nonchalant" means
- LVD argues about whether you should do CPR on someone who's clearly dead
- LVD asks about where casing were (left/right east/west)... What's she trying to get him to say?
- LVD asks about how he knew there were two wounds... How is that relevant? Is she trying to argue that he's lying about how many times CV was shot?

Does she have a strategy? She seems to just enjoy hearing herself talk, because none of her questions really went anywhere. What was the jury supposed to get out of that?

Thank you.
Assuming that a legal head is sitting next to her at the defense table is it possible that she can get a nudge or tap on her foot to know when to object?

Oh my gosh, y’all!
I had no idea this trial was starting and that she was representing herself!?
Is that right?
Wow

What a farce !!!
LVD asking LE witness if he has any crime scene experience.

Ummm-- State just went through that-- He has over 20 years of experience.

Judge rubbing his forehead LOL

I just love to call her LVD because, you know, it sounds like a disease!

Watching the second officer's bodycam.

Alex, on the curb.

LVD and Tylee park and start across the street, office flags them to stay on the other side of the street.

My observation: LVD doesn't seem to upset, doesn't seem affected by all the emergency vehicles. And notably no husband....

Inn't she at all curious?

Pesky foreknowledge.
