I saw someone earlier mentioning that “attempted” was left off of a murder charge as well. Of course, this could just be clerical error, but I bet it’s correctly entered on the non-public side and the omission is just how the case management software translates to the public records access site. Idk what software Arizona uses, but in my state we use one that’s pretty widespread in the US. The public doesn’t see all the details that the judge and clerks can see, even if they aren’t confidential. When you enter a new criminal case, first you put in the statute for the crime (in this case murder) and then you at the charge enhancement/inchoate statutes (attempt, conspiracy, delinquency, etc.) as part of the charge detail under the overall charge. When the public records access pulls information from our case management software, it’s probably just showing that overall charge/statue and not the inchoate details. Attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder aren’t their own statutes, there’s the statute outlawing murder and that statute outlawing attempts at crimes and conspiracies to commit them. So I’m sure that it looks right internally, just not externally to the public. This happens all the time in my state, I don’t know why, but it’s a common issue and it’s frustrating.
