This particular motion is listed 5 times on the docket, whether a glitch or it's so long they had to break it into 5 parts, I don't know:

4/29/2014 MOT - Motion - Party (001) 4/29/2014
NOTE: Defendants Motion re: Funding for ShotSpotter Services

BTW, there's a pre-trial conference this morning at 9:30 AZ time (which is in 10 minutes from time of this post).

Had to google ShotSpotter-

SST has consistently pioneered technologies that help public safety and security agencies fight gun violence, delivering instant, precise and detailed data that alerts agencies to gunfire and helps them respond more quickly, more safely and more effectively. Our gunfire alert and location technology is the only one of its kind in the world. No other solution covers wide areas (many square miles or kilometers) with collaborative sensors that triangulate the precise location anywhere within the coverage area.

:waitasec: Curious as to how this will play for the Defense.

Holly's been filing motions for seven years and continues to do so days before his trial. Annoying!

Fresh off the docket:

5/1/2014 RMR - Response to Defendant's Motion - Party (001) 5/1/2014
NOTE: RESPONSE TO DEFENDANTS MOTION TO COMPEL THE STATE TO DISCLOSE ALL OF THE EXPERT WITNESSES FROM SHOTSOTTER

I'll be looking for the minute entry from today's conference, hopefully it'll be up sometime today (unlikely though) but we'll see.

  • #106
My mistake, they vacated the pre-trial conference for today and reset it for May 8th, it's on the minute entry of 4/17/14 (and it'll be the Final Trial Management Conference before trial).

This makes more sense to me.
Wondered what good this tech would do for the defense.

:tyou: Geev!

correction to post 103 Hulsey's been filing motions for seven years and continues to do so days before his trial. Annoying

Sorry, my big mistake. Of course Hulsey. Thanks for the good catch.

No biggie Chelly, I just wondered if maybe Holly was name of an Attorney also, and wanted to make sure... :seeya:

I've been trying to find the service areas of Shotspotter and when they were first operational.....about all I can find is use of the system in Glendale in 2009. Wondering if they were operational back in 2007?

The number of shots, *maybe* the caliber of each shot, during the actual shooting. Hulsey has put motions in relating to the other officer being responsible for shooting Anthony Holly, ie, the minute bullet fragments that were thrown away during the autopsy, and the request to have Holly's body exhumed< already covered, cremated.
I don't know how closely the actual blast can be triangulated, I have seen Google images that show longitude and latitude of a gunshot on Shotstopper, but don't really know if it's "dead nutz" or give a yard or two, within a 20 foot radius, etc, etc.

But it "seems" like the defense is playing the "friendly fire" angle. That may be why the Prosecution wants Jones and Kostas to testify, and prevented any contact with Hulsey while they were incarcerated?

"ShotSpotter solutions capture and alert agencies to incidents of outdoor gunfire in diverse and complex urban areas, anytime and anywhere that they occur.
ShotSpotter instantly and precisely triangulates gunfire with accurate location data.
ShotSpotter solutions are specifically designed to detect only loud explosive sounds. Human voices do not trigger ShotSpotter sensors, which are placed in elevated locations in order to enhance their capability as well as ensure citizen privacy."

I still can't find how "precise" this triangulation is........

The article you posted said within about 25 meters.
I am kind of with the author of the article, there is something creepy about it.
And I am kind of "anti-gun", so I get what he is saying in that it just leaves you feeling a tiny bit uneasy (that a strange device can monitor sounds so adeptly).

ETA- From the article-

ShotSpotter GLS solutions use acoustic sensors deployed over areas from one square mile up to hundreds of linear miles to locate gunfire and other violent threats within seconds. When an impulsive sound is detected within a ShotSpotter GLS coverage area, the system springs into action; accurately locating the incident (within 25 meters) and classifying the impulsive sound as a violent threat or an everyday sound (e.g. car backfire or firecracker). Detailed alert information, including actual audio recording clips, is quickly relayed to dispatch communications centers, command stations, and field-based vehicles. Alert information is geo-referenced and visually displayed by the ShotSpotter PSC user interface.

I find that rather creepy as well.

The docket is listed on the Maricopa Co. Superior Court site, not sure if that means that's where the trial will be held but it seems logical (yeah, when is anything logical actually factual? lol). You could be our official Trial Watcher, how cool would that be? :)

No pressure, Chelly!!!:seeya:

JK -- I think it would be fabulous, said borndem who is green with envy. That is IF the thing ever gets to the courtroom!!

And a big Thanks to Nymeria who got me here!!

Thanks Bernina and Nymeria for that explanation on Shotspotter. I just couldn't understand the relevance to the defense.
