When you consider that JM comes from a family of poor migrant workers, I can't imagine him feeling any sympathy. Travis Alexander came from a similar background and managed to turn his life around. But Bryan Hulsey chose to wallow in his surroundings with little effort, if any, to improve his own life. Seems the rest of the family turned themselves around to some degree based on what we've heard.

One thing I'm getting, with as comprehensive as the defense is handling the mitigation, it seems very doubtful there will be any sentencing appeal issues.

These defense lawyers obviously prepared very well for this phase of the trial. I guess they were pretty certain he'd be found guilty. (JA on the other hand, until the very last moment, probably thought she'd be acquitted. I wonder if she will put on a more elaborate defense this turn around. Man, how I wish the jury would have given her the DP the last time.)
