So, when I do experiments, write proofs, or test data, I try to keep as open a net as possible. Again, I am not familiar with this area. So, from the outside looking in, I would look for any backpackers/campers of any age...
I am not familiar with the area either and also agree with a wide net via inquiring about anybody who has seen or heard something anything no matter how small.

The area is a forest, not a park. So, other users in a broad net approach could include: ATV types, target shooters, partyers, ranchers etc.

it might be good to have "broad net" question and a scenario driven approach at the same time. For example:

- Broad net: Did users 'D' and 'U' see or hear any thing no matter how small?
- Scenario driven approaches could include:

"Trespass Punisher": Has a camper started to "claim" a part of the forest? Is there a leasing rancher known to lock public gates or approach people and claim that public access is forbidden etc.
Sex Stalker: Are there any specific back packers or others known to have harassed females, shown in inordinate interest in couples via following them, trying to strike up conversations etc.?

Freedom fanatics: Have certain target shooters or off roaders received complaints in the past that their fun was endangering others? Or, did they seem to deliberately "amp up" their fun to harass other users?

Hunters and fishers with bad 'tudes: Not hunting season and area does not seem to be prime hunting location, so hunters with 'tudes may diminish.

Fishing 'tudes could include: Any fishermen in the past known to aggressively approach others about real or imagined fishing faux pas? Any fisherman known to have wasted fish, fished with illegal methods, blatantly taken restricted species, had "claimed" a certain spot etc?

For what its worth, My husband grew up there many years ago. The area used to be where cattle of near by ranches would roam. My husband used to cowboy for the ranches as a kid. He finds it a bit odd it has become a popular camping area now. But with the population growth, its not surprising.

Russell Hill and Carol Clay encountered the wrong person at the wrong time while camping in Australia. I have to wonder if these two poor innocent kids didn't run into a similarly ill-tempered person who became enraged about something and leveraged the relative isolation of the area to go undetected... for now.

And, if anyone is close to this case or near this location, I highly recommend canvasing the location, putting up their pictures with information in local gas stations to raise awareness and most importantly speak with others from all levels of society in this area because most people today get their news from social media and it could be again something someone in crossing has never heard or seen.

Sometimes those population changes can bring conflicts between the old ways and the new ways.

For example, your husband can tell about the importance of closing gates in ranching areas. Not all new off roaders may know that or care.

There was a murder in Colorado of a cyclist that may have stemmed from a olde school idea of being able to target shoot any where at any time, verse the new school idea of shooting being restricted to designated areas.

I had a micro "olde verse new" encounter when an once isolated area DFW got developed. A mother loudly proclaimed that there was a "boy with a knife" in the area. My youngest son was fishing. Knives are often needed for fishing. We then moved on to a still isolated area where young boys fishing and having knives are still the norm.

But..... I think any possible new ways verse olde ways conflict would likely feature a "build up" of some sort, or have occurred near something that could cause tensions. That does not appear to be the case here.

I did look for an update but couldn’t find anything. I hope this means that LE is busy in the background.

Of course I hope the same, but it seems quite opposite from the most recent ask from LE. Unless I missed something more recent? Evan’s Mom also seems to be discouraged that the case has no movement. But she wouldn’t necessarily know if LE had a suspect in view.

I hope she can hold on (though its easier said than done).

Remember the double murder in Maine of a couple taking a walk in a nature area. No movement for months- then the sudden arrest of a homeless drifter in a different state.

The Maricopa police chief announced Thursday that another law enforcement agency has been brought in to independently review how the city investigated past crimes after "potential deficiencies" were detected.

'"During this process, we uncovered some potential deficiencies in our investigations that raised concerns about whether some of these cases were handled with the level of attention they deserved," Goodman wrote. "Specifically, the records for some of these legacy cases do not indicate whether any investigation took place at all before they were closed."

As a result, the police department has asked the Arizona Department of Public Safety to review about 40 cases.'

Not sure if this has been posted but even if the past crimes include property thefts and sex crimes (I have no idea how many of them vary, not sure how to reach out to find out what cases they were nor why they were not investigated) it would have possible implications into other crimes in this area and potential foresight into unsolved in this area and surrounding areas.

Can't find any updates on this. I hope we learn more soon, and I hope they make an arrest.

This is hardly a cold case, only two months have passed. But it feels that way, due to the drop in media attention. Thier poor families, can imagine how they feel.

One month after two teenagers were found shot and killed on a camping trip near Mount Ord, south of Payson, area residents are sharing their own concerning experiences in the remote location where officials have labeled the deaths as suspicious. While authorities have not identified any suspects in the deaths of Pandora Kjolsrud and Evan Clark, some residents who frequent the area are expressing anxiety about their safety.

I hope police are still making the investigation a priority. If it was a random crime of opportunity, it will probably happen again and it may be related to other unsolved random murders of young women in the area (e.g.: the girl who left her foster home to hitchhike to her grandmother's house).

Agree Otto, scary thought to think this might happen again. I feel so sorry for their families, can’t imagine being in their shoes waiting for answers.
