So bio mom has not been in contact and bio dad didn't know her contact info?

so they're blaming it on the neighbours? but the neighbour's aren't charged

ETA: or are they saying Rebekah ran away and then the neighbours found her already assaulted and then returned her to the two suspects instead of calling 911?

This beautiful child was tortured in the most heinous ways.

dehydrated, malnourished, missing her toenails for God's sake, sexually abused, bruised from head to toe. Her school contacted DCS no less than 12 times with concerns. each time no meaningful action was taken to protect her. Now that she' dead, DCS are ""actively collaborating with law enforcement in a joint investigation to ensure that the people responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice."

Give me a break. Way too little way too late.

Looks like him to me. Same scraggly beard, same face shape and lips. In other photos he always has a hat or hair covering the part of his head with the wart.... He has gained a lot of weight, as has the GF.

They both look pretty rough in their mugshots. I'm assuming. I'm getting a substance abuse vibe from them. My heart broke when I read how little Rebekah would beg not to get sent home. Katie Hobbs better not drop the ball on this one!!

You can almost understand cases where the family are very secluded and the abuse is well hidden. But this is unreal, family were reporting, school were reporting, this little angel begged not to go home. How much more proof did they need? She clearly had bruises that people could see!

Just curious, 2 of her siblings went to Empower College Prep as well. Was she the only one that had signs of abuse? Charter schools a lot of times are more proactive when there are issues with a student. I wonder if they ever spoke to the father and his girlfriend about what they were seeing? Which of course would have made things worse for Rebekah. She would have gone back to school Monday the 4th.

I hope not only will people at CPS lose their jobs (and not just the lowest-paid caseworker) but that there will also be criminal charges against others besides the "parents," if warranted. But somehow I doubt it.

I wonder how many professionals who had heard about the abuse are sitting there thinking, "someone else should have helped her, not me."

What does it take for an abused child to get help when not only is the child, but also the school has raised the alarm MULTIPLE times!!! Seriously! What. Does. It. Take?!?!?

I can see it (or part of it) on his forehead if I zoom in on his cover photo that features the kids.

articles report all of the children in the household appeared to have suffered abuse. I suspect she and her brother got the worst of it. Has anybody read if the third child reported to be in the household belongs to Richard and his GF?

Article report all 3 children showed signs of abuse/neglect, just the oldest got the worst. Found info in bio dad's FB that he and bio mom had 4 children, the 3rd triggered removal of all children, not sure if it was just from bio mom or from both parents. 4th child was adopted within year of birth. The new GF is not the parent of any of the children.

When I used to work in schools, we had a few children who were seriously abused. We reported time and time again to protective services whom would just close the case. For one specific case, we believed it was so dire that we wanted to go above CPS (which we were required to report fears of abuse to) and so we contacted the police. The police said "we can't take these reports , call CPS". I was livid because the type of abuse we were hearing about, seeing evidence of, etc... toward an adult would result in arrests, police reports, etc. But not for a child...

In my experience, the police just bump it back to CPS so teachers, counselors, etc are left with their hands tied.

*edited to add: We did also file complaints with CPS/against CPS but they investigate themselves so they of course threw out those complaints too.

I know how frustrating that is. I spent time calling, trying to follow up. And many of the kids I was calling about already knew the "drill". In Las Vegas, they would go to "Christmas Box House", stay a few days, and usually end up back home anyway. It was an exercise in futility. But, some cases, it does make a difference.

Woods priors in AZ are simple failure to register a vehicle and failure to appear on a traffic citation. Her cases occurred in Manistee Justice (2020) and Phoenix municipal (2025) courts

Baptiste's priors in AZ include illegally parking in a disabled spot and a 2024 charge for assault with intent or knowingly causing injury to and disorderly conduct/fighting

Governor Hobbs is a former social worker. I hope this will make a difference.

This little one has been so heavy on my mind this week. I wish the father and his gf would have dropped the kids off somewhere, a fire station, or given them to another family member to care for, since they themselves are clearly unfeeling monsters.

What an absolutely maddening and senseless loss. Rebekah shouldn’t have been thrown to the wolves like this. It took her death for her brothers to have a chance at a better life. I hope they’re able to heal and live decent lives in honor of their big sister.
