I've been to that spot before. I don't see how it would be possible for him not to be found already... if indeed he was lost in the area. The terrain outside of the campground quickly becomes very rough and would prevent a toddler from going too far. Direction of travel would also be limited due to geographical features and lots of barbed wire fencing in the area. Also, the campground is very small... every spot is within shouting distance of ALL the others.

The campground/creek mostly attracts a less than desirable type of people during the summer months. Lots of partiers and fried out types.

Investigators schedule press conference to update search for boy

The search for a missing 2-year-old Flagstaff boy pressed on Monday as authorities also began looking into his family.

Yavapai County Sheriff's Spokesperson Dwight D'Evelyn said more than 50 search and rescue people are combing through the Beaver Creek Campground area for Syler Newton. He said Monday's search was cut back a bit to allow a couple of bloodhounds to roam freely in the area and try and pick up Syler's scent.

A few police volunteers were on patrol keeping a tight lid on access to the campsite off Forest Road 618, which is off limits between junctions 121 and 215.

It's the first I've heard of a known 'custody issue'.

Another local here. I live about 10 minutes away from the campground. I used to hike in that area when I was a teen almost every weekend (not so much now simply because its so blasted HOT).

I agree with larsinaz that there is no way that little guy wandered off & got lost on his own. The terrain there is difficult for my 8yo wearing hikers. A barefoot 2yo in a diaper would have been screaming from cut feet or tripping over uneven ground if he really did go off by himself.

Obviously there is more to the story than they are telling. Let's just pray he is found safe soon.

... the custodial mother claims she last saw Syler around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday inside a tent immediately adjacent to the tent she slept in.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., she found Syler missing and conducted a search before calling 911. D'Evelyn said the first official call recorded by YCSO Communications came at approximately 2:30 a.m. from a camp host and deputies were on scene by 3 a.m...

...Deputies contacted and spoke with more than 25 campers who were on site at the time of Syler's disappearance...
