GUILTY AZ - Sylar Newton, 2, Rimrock, 25 July 2010 - #5

"Although the YCSO says these charges do not pertain directly to 2-year-old Sylar Newton, they result from an examination of activities at the campground near Sedona, which could lead to an understanding of Sylar's disappearance"

This is sounding intriguing -- how will they successfully connect the dots?

I believe that these older kids can help, can testify to what happened to Sylar. That young girl tried to protect and take care of Sylar. Those kids saw Sylar being abused, probably saw him being drugged and it is entirely possible that she was faking being asleep when something more was going on.

I think that young lady may very well be the star prosecution witness in this case.

I must have missed the article that reported the suggestion that anyone tried to help Sylar do you have a link? I'd like to read it. (BTW - I hope you're right.)

A Flagstaff woman is accused of giving her children and one of their friends drugs during a camping trip in which a toddler under her care disappeared and later was found dead.

Christina Priem faces three felony counts of involving a minor in a drug offense.

Yavapai County sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn says none of the charges involve the 2-year-old toddler, Sylar Newton. He wouldn't say what drugs Priem is accused of giving the other children.

This makes me wonder if she drugged the kids so they would sleep through her (or whoever acted for her) removing Sylar from the campground...

Aw, she doesn't look so happy anymore... Anyone else feel the desire to smack her one?

I am hopeful she doesn't have a hope in getting bail and that she remains in custody over Christmas.

bbm, sbm

I believe there was another statement I cannot find right now... I would keep looking but I have to stomach my in laws in 8 hours for the 2nd day in a row. I need to get to sleep.

However I considered this part to be a suggestion that Tina's daughter tried to help Sylar. It sounded to me like the girl took care of Sylar as well, which to me was helping him. It may be why he lived as long as he did.

"Priem's daughter, 11, told detectives that earlier in the afternoon, she saw Sylar staggering and then could not wake him, the warrant said."

"Collins also told deputies Sylar got into her purse and swallowed a prescription muscle relaxant. Priem's 11-year-old daughter told detectives she could not wake up Sylar later that day."

What 11 year old intentionally wakes up a 2 year old? They would generally forget the kid was even there... they are too busy playing and doing their own thing. I can't really see Tina asking her to wake him, if he's asleep he isn't bothering her. If you are Tina there is no need to wake him from a nap, you can just drug him to stay asleep all night anyway.

Why would anyone wake him up? Unless it was someone caring, mothering who was concerned about his ability to wake up for some reason... or someone concerned about him eating... (I'm guessing this would not be Tina.)

I think the girl knew something was wrong and was trying to wake him up to check on him. That is how it seems to come across. It'd be nice to read the actual search warrant. :twocents:

Not appearing Friday... they skipped that and went straight to the higher court through the grand jury.

:woohoo:Tina Priem Indicted :woohoo:

A Yavapai County Grand Jury indicted Christina Priem Wednesday, alleging three counts of involving a minor in a drug offense.

Now with the indictment, the Class-2 felony offenses would be transferred directly to the higher court.

Priem will now appear Jan. 19 before Judge Tina Ainley in Division 3.

She is now held pending a $250,000 bond.

Authorities say additional charges have been filed in connection with the death of a 2-year-old boy in northern Arizona this summer. The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that the custodial mother and custodial grandmother of the toddler now have both been charged with one count of child abuse.

.
They say 36-year-old Christina Priem of Flagstaff was arrested Dec. 7 on three felony counts of involving a minor in a drug offense, but none of those charges involved the toddler's death until now.
The sheriff's office says an arrest warrant has been issued for Priem's mother — 57-year-old Nancy Collins.
Authorities say the charges against Collins and Priem "relate directly to events leading to Sylar Newton's death while in their custody."

I guess keeping an eye on her until they arrested her would have been too much to ask...

Interesting that they say she "went missing" and not that she fled, or took off, or absconded. That's a bit odd on the wording.

Why just child abuse and not child abuse leading to death. Is it because they have witnesses at the campground to the child abuse, but not to the death?

What are the allegations? That they drugged Sylar and that led to his death?

Yavapai County detectives are seeking additional charges against Sylar's custodial mother, Christina Priem, 36, for child abuse when done intentionally or knowingly, the release said. She is currently being held on a $300,000 bond.

Nancy Collins, 57, Priem's mother, went missing Thursday afternoon, the release said. Collins faces a single charge of child abuse when done recklessly.
