None of the neighbors saw the boy outside shooting Mr. Romans evidently. We know the screen door shot was coming from outside going into the inside of the house through the screen..

What i don't understand is, if the grandmother "knew it would happen" the boy had to do it; be involved in it; "they were too hard on him" etc..
then he shouldn't be at risk for reoffending. He cuddled up with his grandmother in bed that night.

Why is this little boy staying at a detention facility since none of his family will take him home??

Because he's court ordered into the juvenile detention facility.

Maybe it's better that he is in detention. It may be harder on him at a relatives home right now in St. Johns. Unless they were to release him to his natural mother, and of course she lives out of state.

I guess I have missed it somewhere, but where was the step-mother when all this was going on?

Are they sure this child shot these men? Did he have residue on his hands? What other proof are they offering here besides that "confession"?

Great questions SS. I do not believe we know the answers to any of them! There is much to be learned yet in this case....

According to court documents, they never tested the boys hands for residue as he was at first not seen as a suspect.

They also did not test the weapon for fingerprints or DNA.

The only "evidence" they have apart from the "confession", is Romans' wife saying she had heard the boy during the phone call.

I don't know however if they tested the boys clothes or the results have come back..

The documents can be found on Apache County Clerks website.

Do you know when they made the court order for him to be detained in the detention facility?
At first he was staying there as he had no relatives to take him in.

I know they didn't test for GSR because they thought he was a witness at the time but where in the documents does it say they are not going to test the weapon/casings, etc? They retrieved the weapon and casings as evidence.

Do you know which section that is in? Thanks in advance.

I know by the probable cause hearing they had not tested the weapon at that time, as it was early on in the investigation, but just haven't seen where they were not going to do so at all?

Morning MeoW!

I am not sure that was really the truth or more of what the defense attorney was saying at the time to gain sympathy for his client. I don't think the Judge was going to let him go home. He even remanded him back to the juvenile center after the 48 hour furlough when he was in custody of his mother.

From what I remember reading the Judge said it was not necessary at this time to obtain full custody of the boy since he is being held by the State Juvenile Detention Center. But he has to have a custodian when he is out and about away from the center.

All we have heard is Tiffany wasn't at home when this happened. The boy in his interview talks about her going to be late coming home that day. Maybe had to work overtime or something?

They thought that night he was only a witness, so, no, they did not test his hands. They did retrieve the clothes he was wearing the next day.

Since it has been a month and the case is on the books the DA does believe that, yes, he did shoot these men.

We have no idea what evidence they have or don't have. I doubt they will reveal any of that at this time. Most DAs will keep their best evidence close to the vest for as long as they can.

Morning OBE, i remember reading they had to find him a Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) i think it was called as well..
He can't discuss the case with family, so they appointed a therapist too.

I just am not sure the evidence really does point to the boy being the shooter when you consider the time and the way the bodies were found. It sounds like the LE there botched things from the beginning and it is possible they are using tunnel vision based upon his "confession" which, imo, isn't worth a plug nickle. If this child were traumatized by seeing two men shot in front of him and told what to say, it is possible he is covering for someone or just too afraid to tell.

I feel and think this little boy told the police officers what he thought they wanted to hear.Because the police officers said we can't help you if you do not tell us the truth.Maybe this little boy told these police officers he shot them because he thought the police officers could help him some how.I don't know.

Total BS, the stepmother has not come out against the boy. I have followed this case the stepmother has NOT made a statement against the boy PERIOD.
Here is what was said by grandma...

"I knew this would happen," she said. "They were too hard on (the boy). I knew (the boy) did it. He spent the night in my bed cuddling up to me. I had a feeling he did it. If any 8-year-old boy is capable of doing this, it's (the boy)."

I believe that in AZ a GAL is always appointed for a minor in any court case where their interests are at stake, it is standard procedure.
