And this article speaks about Lindsay Sandiford.

.... can now look forward to sleeping for a very long time on a mat on the floor, dormitory-style, in a hot, smelly and dank Bali prison cell.

She is in Block W, the women’s block ... The numbers in her cell will differ from less than 10 to 13 or 14, depending on the prison population.

Life there is no picnic. As well as the awful sanitary and health problems and the filth, there is the personality clashes and in-fighting amongst the prisoners themselves.

Personal effects are regularly stolen from the prisoners by their cell mates.
The toilets are squat toilets and there is no shower, just an Indonesian-style mandi – a tub of water and a small bucket to pour it over yourself.

And I still can't see where else they can 'mingle' except in the visitors area .. where, surely, you would need to have visitors, to be allowed in that area.

Visitors are allowed each day except Mondays and they are full contact visits, on the bright side. This too means they get to mingle with the male prisoners.

There is definitely a women's block ... and at one time HM may have been able to keep her nails manicured, but maybe not now. Especially if she only has $50 to spend.

SCHAPELLE Corby's skill as a nail artist has earned her many customers among her fellow female prisoners at Bali's Kerobokan Jail.
Insiders at the jail .... say that her nail art is "very cool" and that she charges 20,000 rupiah or $2 to do the nails.
"Her nail art is very cool. Many women in the W block have become her nail art customers. Mostly the customers are the women who have money," one fellow prisoner said.

Corby has also become active in making wooden fans as part of a program run by the jail where a company in Denpasar supplies wood for the prisoners to make fans for them.
Corby is in cell number one in the overcrowded women's block where there are 105 inmates. The capacity is 52 prisoners. She is sharing currently with nine other prisoners. At times there have been up to 13 women in her cell.

Where is the $50 figure coming from?

Oh .. I was thinking of the $50 donation on the donation site. The desperation money. :)

The prison doctor says that they are in their cells for 20 hours a day ....

Kerobokan's prisoners are locked up for 20 hours a day in dark rooms which measure a mere three square metres. Larger 30-metre cells are usually crammed with up to 20 prisoners, according to prison doctor, Anak Agung Gede Hartawan."

"Common diseases include respiratory ailments and skin conditions, while many prisoners complain of headaches. Hartawan said 11 prisoners are confirmed carriers of HIV/AIDS but 30 are estimated to have the virus"

http://www.schapelle.net/kerobokan.html

I think this may have been one of the reasons why Schapelle started visisbly going cuckoo in Kerobokan ...

The women are taken through a steel door to the cramped, dirty and primitive Block W, where they stay cooped up day and night in cells with up to 15 others.

I think there's a lot of misinformation about the situation inside that prison. Different people have different reasons to publish information. For people who are trying to get a prisoner freed, the conditions are written down as inhumane.

I've watched the video of the Bali 9 guys. They are not locked up during the day. At all. And they are death row inmates.

I think the links I posted is more like it based on what I saw in that video.

This one in particular....

Yes, that is an enlightening article, Kamille. So they do have freedom to move around during the day - probably within their own sections by the sounds of things.

Sounds like the whole place is open to everyone for classes. I've seen both men and women in the various art classes.

Not really the unbelievably filthy hellhole that is described.

Probably better than prison cells in the US, except for the plumbing situation. I agree that I'd not like to sleep next to 8 or 9 other women but I'm sure they all try to get along. (back in the day I hear that large families had to share bedrooms LOL) And I bet if there's a real troublemaker they get booted or reprimanded. I do think HM would hold her own just fine in there. She's a very manipulative young woman.

I think there is a women's section and a men's section where the cells are. Oh and a death row section. But I think there is a common area that they all have access to for classes and such. I guess you just can't go into a "cell" section that is not your own. So they can hang out together in the common area I think.

And if that's not the case, then if HM wants to see TS, all she has to do is claim that her visitor is there to see him as well. And that might just happen. Perhaps TS's mother will or has aligned herself with HM's attorneys and they will work out a local person to bring stuff to them while they wait for trial. And that person can go everyday as a visitor and bring them food. They can see each other at the same time.

This is what I understood as well when I read up on the conditions from various sources not long after the crime.

This doesn't look like a hell hole. It sounds harsh, but some of the reports and pictures tell me Heather will certainly be able to navigate this system and work it to her advantage. She'll be doing nails, making wooden fans, and crafting if she even gets a sentence. Make out sessions for her and Tommy? This isn't suppose to be how it works out pleeease!

Corby looks pretty darn good in these pictures. (see gallery of pictures)
Jewelry, nice clothes, and she was even allowed a neck cord in case she wanted to commit suicide. It didn't look so horrible really and her sister got to visit often.

I'm sure Tommy's mother will have a decent vacation and provide him with comfort while he awaits trial for murdering some other mother. How generous of people to donate to his comfort, huh.

And looking at that pic at your link, looks like they might even have a Christmas service to attend with him carrying his bible and her wearing her cross necklace.

:floorlaugh: Wearing their rubber band wedding rings, of course.

OMG, check out that picture gallery! Guards hugging Corby affectionately, blown glass globes for room décor, a 3 hr. make-up session, clean hair,...it's not what I'd call a hell hole. Looks like Corby even had lovely foot jewelry, so maybe Heather can get them some real gems and they'll ditch the rubber bands. Tommy was looking so forward to diamonds, ya know.

Yep...doesn't look too bad at all. Nice beauty salon. And SC served less than half of her sentence didn't she? And she was arrested for drugs...a lot of them. How did that happen?

Yeah, it doesn't look like SC had much of a problem having her stuff stolen either. She had a lot of clothes and jewellery in there. Plus she must have been getting money from her sister to buy things like beauty salon sessions and such. Not to mention the money she was making doing nails herself.

We've heard that SWM's family has not contacted or been contacted by HM but what about the Mack family? Or even her "friends"? I find it hard to believe that she's really sitting over there with absolutely no one willing to help her out with a few bucks. Same with TS. He had a very outspoken cousin who was also in the music biz I believe. Pretty sure he'd be doing what he can to help TS.

As Australia is one of the first places that Santa visits on Christmas Day, I just want to take this opportunity to wish everyone here a merry and peace-filled Christmas. :santahat:

Blessings to you all.

It's a wonderful time of year to get fresh, handmade tamales in San Diego, California.

Santa will probably head this way for some tamales.

Wishing You All a Merry Christmas and safe Happy Holiday Season.

I've never been to a Tamale Making Party which are popular around here before the holidays.
I don't actually know a lot about them. There's all kinds of Tamales -pineapple, strawberry, corn, pork, chicken. They're wrapped in corn husks and steamed. Tonight I've declared it Mexican food night for me. I'm also making some tacos to go with these tamales I bought. Tomorrow night is all kinds of Fish night. Do I have you thinking about food yet?

Here's some pictures of Tamales.

For the heck of it, I put HM's 'i refuse to let someone say what i can do, gettin money my attitude you know what it do' into Google translate, and translated it into Indonesia.

The result was ...'saya menolak untuk membiarkan orang mengatakan apa yang bisa saya lakukan, gettin uang sikap saya Anda tahu apa yang ia lakukan'

Then I took the Indonesian translation, and translated it back into English ... the result was 'I refuse to let people say what can I do, my attitude gettin money you know what he was doing'

I guess my point is that it will be a pretty close translation. The 'he' won't be taken as he, I think they know enough to make that 'she/I' ... considering the difficulty with translation of he/she/I. And they will probably (imo) presume that Heather was giving Sheila a hard time in Bali about money ... seeing that the tweet happened while they were in Bali, and seeing that they were arguing in the lobby about who was paying for Tommy's room.

Now, if the FBI (or reading western MSM) has provided info about potential inheritance/the lawsuit, that may heighten things even further.

I wish it was that easy. Those translators are notoriously inaccurate. In addition, the "gettin'" part of the tweet is very important and that cannot be translated directly. The total lack of punctuation is also very problematic as punctuation changes meaning in every language. It would be helpful to know how the Indonesian legal system deals with translations to begin with. In United States, I think what could possibly happen is, a forensic interpreter would be hired to translate what he or she thinks the meaning is. The defense would then be able to hire their own. But in a murder case, that might not even be allowed. I'm not sure. Possibly, because like any other expert they are interpreting data that a layperson could not otherwise interpret.
