I've never been to a Tamale Making Party which are popular around here before the holidays.
I don't actually know a lot about them. There's all kinds of Tamales -pineapple, strawberry, corn, pork, chicken. They're wrapped in corn husks and steamed. Tonight I've declared it Mexican food night for me. I'm also making some tacos to go with these tamales I bought. Tomorrow night is all kinds of Fish night. Do I have you thinking about food yet? :smile:

Regarding the "...you know what it do" from my experience that phrase is used within the Black culture as slang to denote familiarity as in "you know what/how I react in this kind of a situation". I really don't think it is that deep.

To date I haven't really posted anything about it but I thought would because of something that just happened a few minutes ago, and aptly demonstrates it's use. I'm watching an episode of "Girlfriends" on TV1 (Their slogan is "Where Black Life Unfolds"). Girlfriends was a long running sitcom about 5 Black women, their friendship and careers and their lives in Calif. Think Sex and the City for Black girls. Anyway, in this eppie, 2 of the main characters, female and male, who are the only attorneys of color at the same law firm and vie for senior partner status. They have also been longtime platonic friends and are co-owners in a joint business. It is Christmas time and they decide to go to a tropical destination for the holidays only to have their flight grounded at a layover/ airport in the Midwest which has to shutdown because of a snowstorm. They seek lodging but because everything is filled they end up in a sh****, unclean motel in the middle of no where, without heat and later power. Hours later William, a tall, big man is so tired he finally decides to sleep on the dirty mattress that has no linen on it. He attempts to coax Joan into bed with him so they can cuddle for warmth but she tells him she can't bear to lie on the mattress because it is so dirty. He in turn lies flat on his back and tells her she can lie on top of him so she won't have to touch the mattress at all. She does and settles in and says "Oh William, thank you, you are so gallant" to which he responds "You know how I do". I have long thought HM meant that she was going to act out or get pissed as she was wont to do in the past when she did not get her way. To what degree I have no idea but clearly one can infer based on her past, it would be more than just a brief pouting period.

ETA: So the word s*h*a*b*b*y must be a banned word?? Why I wonder...what am I missing?

Thats how I took it too. But that IS deep because it suggests that very one knows she has a bad attitude and will get what she wants regardless of what others do.

No news about HM and TS on Christmas Day .. but there is this new article about two members of the Bali Nine. There was a service in the prison hall on Christmas morning. Most of the article is about the upcoming death penalties to be carried out this year, and the amount of young Indonesians who die from drug use.

Our tradition is Chinese Food for Christmas Eve! They tend to be the only restaurants open! Had some really yummy Chinese food last night!
But I do love homemade beef tamales, my next door neighbor used to make them at Christmas time.

I'm always checking in on this thread hoping to read HM is finally charged with murder! I don't believe her story that she hid in the bathroom while TS attacked SWM. HM beat her mother black and blue for years, why a change of heart? TS is a fool and a , and deserves imprisonment for his part. HM was the orchestrator and has her mother's blood on her hands.

May 2015 bring justice for Sheila and the family and friends that really care for her.

Well, the rules do say 'the earliest' (which actually seems a bit odd). I suspect with the holiday season in full swing, there's no rush to charge them. They're not going anywhere.

That said, I agree, I think HM's attorneys would like nothing better than for HM to go into labor in the middle of the courtroom. I wonder if Elkin and Flavia talked to HM at all about her behavior around TS. Perhaps they think the image of 'tragic young lovers, mother-to-be just wants to be with loving baby-daddy-to-be' as working in HM's favor. I would think that tactic makes is slightly at odds with an image of HM as a grieving pregnant lover struggling to come to grips with her mother's murder, her 'robotic' role in the murder, and her betrayal by her baby-daddy.

Instead, it's perfectly clear that whatever went down, she's in TS's corner and SWM's murder was just an unfortunate 'oopsie' on the way to the altar (and bank).

Don't know how the Indonesian judges will see it, but if HM's lawyers are trying to throw TS under the bus to save HM, I don't think the 'young lovers' image is the best way to go about it.

Don't forget, they have just lost 149 people in the AirAsia tragedy. While that shouldn't affect the mechanisms of daily life too much, if they are anything like our nation when we have lost many - in the Bali bombings, in the MH17 incident - things slow up a bit and get reshuffled a bit. Their nation is in mourning. HM & TS mean diddly squat to them right now.

Greetings from Chicago. I was reading news online and came across a story about a 7/11 vandalized close to my house so I watched the video and low and behold, one of the idiots in the video looked familiar...pretty sure it's one of HM and TS friends from the hotel videos...so I went to look back at HM vine and sure enough ....wait for it.... She had the very same video of the store vandalizing vine on her vine page - she revined the video....but the vandalism only happened two days ago on Thursday. DOES SHE HAVE A CELL PHONE!!???
