According to the report, Israel provided Belgium with concrete information on security breaches at the airport, where the first of two attacks on the Belgian capital took place on Tuesday, and claimed that "there are serious security deficiencies at the airport in Brussels".

There may or may not have been security problems, but this attack took place just inside the terminal building and well before passengers would have come into contact with any security measures except for armed police guards patrolling the terminal. Given what we now know, once the attackers were inside the terminal there was really no way to prevent the attack since shooting them would simply have released their grip on their detonators and therefore detonated the bombs. One thing which the security wallahs are going to have to think very hard about is just how you stop an attack in such circumstances.

The Channel 2 News follows a report in Haaretz earlier which said that Belgian intelligence services received specific warnings ahead of Tuesday's attacks but failed to properly investigate them.

Links have been posted to several articles discussing the weaknesses of the Belgian security services, not least of which is that they are under manned and under resourced. I imagine the Belgian authorities are going to be given a kick up the backside by other countries about these failings if they still seem unwilling or unable to address them.

Per CNN and U.S. Intel- Terrorists plotting imminent attacks. We have friends leaving shortly for Rome and further travels. Why are they ramping this up? Or are they just preying on the current fear? Yet there will be other attacks IMO. Where and when I guess is the question. Sadly.

Does anyone know the status of the missing Americas? There was one couple at the airport when the explosion occurred. Why can't their families get an answer as to where they are?

No, darlin we all have guns.

What do you mean? Are you implying that there are a lot of racist LEO in those states?

This will no doubt get me on either time out or banned:
Send them to the American South: Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi or Georgia. Hell, yeah

I live in Texas, East Texas, to boot! and yes, people own guns here. I have guns. I don't like to talk about them and I am sick of some Texans bragging about their guns and their gun rights in Texas. Too much bravado IMO.

Plenty of citizens in non-Southern states own guns also.

Still do not get your point about southern states and guns, honeychile!

Sorry for the backward multi-quote.

Report: suicide bomber brothers spied on nuclear researcher and wanted to build dirty bomb

Khalid and Ibrahim El Bakraoui, the brothers who were identified as two of the Brussels suicide bombers, spied on a Belgian nuclear researcher and hoped to build a dirty bomb according to an intelligence expert who spoke with NBC News.

Claude Moniquet, who investigates potential threats to Europe's nuclear sector, claims the brothers planted a hidden camera to track the researcher's movements.

"The terrorist cell ... naively believed they could use him to penetrate a lab to obtain nuclear material to make a dirty bomb," he told NBC.

Yesterday it was reported that many of the injured lost limbs, and today it was said that some of the dead are in pieces. If that's the case, I would think it would take time to identify the dead.

I also just saw on the news that some family members are outside a hospital where 4 severely injured victims are but they aren't allowed, yet, to go see them and try to identify. I just don't understand. Maybe Brussels is just in such chaos still.

Twin terror raids in France and Belgium Thursday resulted in multiple arrests, including one Frenchman who was described as being in the "advanced stages" of a plot to attack the country.

However, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the man arrested in Argenteuil, on the northern outskirts of Paris, was not linked “at this stage” to recent attacks in Paris and Brussels.

A 23-year-old resident of the neighborhood described seeing heavily masked and armed officers surround the entrance to an apartment building before entering and emerging with the suspect, his head covered in a scarf.

At the same time, six people were reported arrested during anti-terror operations in the Brussels suburb of Schaerbeek, the same area where an ISIS flag and a bomb containing nails were found after attacks on the Brussels airport and subway.

Investigators could be seen carrying what appeared to be bags of evidence from at least one of the raid sites.

The raids came as Belgium lowered its terror threat level by one notch although authorities said the situation remained "grave" and another attack was "likely and possible."

In a related development, two law enforcement sources confirmed to Fox News that two brothers named as suicide bombers in the Brussels attacks earlier this week were listed in U.S. intel databases and known to the FBI.

One source said Belgian authorities had shared intelligence on the individuals with their foreign counterparts.

Terrorist Attacks and Threats in France | FindTheData

Earlier, the fugitive terrorist suspect who was captured in Brussels just days before a series of coordinated bombings ripped through the Belgian capital on Tuesday – and who claimed he knew nothing of that deadly plot – was reportedly planning a larger, Paris-style attack involving both mass shootings and suicide blasts.

Salah Abdeslam, the lone surviving suspect of the Nov. 13 Paris attacks, denied knowing about the Brussels attacks, which killed at least 31 and wounded at least 270, his lawyer said in court on Thursday. But Abdeslam, who was captured Friday following a four-month manhunt, was set to participate in what could have been an even deadlier massacre, according to Belgian broadcaster VRT.

The plot would reportedly have featured two units of terrorists, one group who would use Kalashnikov rifles to shoot civilians and a second that would blow themselves up in crowded areas. Abdeslam, Mohamed Belkaid, who was killed while shooting at police during a Brussels raid last week, and a third unidentified man were alleged to be the would-be shooters.

That plan is highly reminiscent of the Paris terror attacks, which killed 130. During those attacks, three terrorists blew themselves up outside the Stade de France, while other attackers shot civilians before detonating explosive vests. In the most deadly instance, 89 people were killed after terrorists stormed the Bataclan concert hall during a performance by the American band The Eagles of Death Metal.

ISIS claimed credit for both the Paris and Brussels terror attacks.
Abdeslam is accused of being part of the Paris terror team, but is alleged to have abandoned his mission – and his suicide vest – and fled to Belgium, where he began cultivating a new terror cell.

But any plans Abdeslam had of participating in a second attack vanished when police captured him on Friday. It’s thought that Abdeslam’s arrest led the eventual Brussels attackers to speed up their attack plans, resulting in Tuesday’s carnage at Zaventem Airport and inside the Maelbeek metro station.

Officials have identified three of the attackers who carried out Tuesday’s bombings and believe two other possible accomplices – as yet unidentified – may be on the run.

Abdeslam’s lawyer, Sven Mary, said Abdeslam would not fight extradition to France, saying his client “wanted to explain himself in France.”

The mass shooting/bombing plot may have been just one of several abandoned plans considered by the Brussels cell.

Two of the brothers identified in Tuesday's attacks -- Ibrahim and Khalid El-Bakraoui -- allegedly planted a camera outside a Belgian nuclear official's house and spied on the man, according to multiple reports. Experts have speculated the men could have been seeking to try to procure materials to build a so-called "dirty bomb."
About 10 hours of footage was recovered by authorities in raids following the Paris attacks, leading to increased security around Belgium's Tihange and Doel nuclear plants.

Yesterday it was reported that many of the injured lost limbs, and today it was said that some of the dead are in pieces. If that's the case, I would think it would take time to identify the dead.

The military hospital where the bodies were taken said it will take many weeks to identify some of the victims. I assume they will be having to run DNA tests on multiple body parts to match them up.

Just had a thought.

Perhaps Salah Abdeslam was due to handle one of the suitcase bombs but his arrest not only brought the attack forward but forced the bomb-maker to take part himself.

Armed police launched a major new raid in Brussels in the wake of the suicide attacks, in the Schaerbeek area of the capital, Belgian media reported Friday, a day after six suspects were arrested over the carnage.

An explosion was heard at the start of the operation, Belga news agency reported, while the RTBF broadcaster said a man had been "neutralised", but there was no immediate confirmation by officials.
