Siblings from New York confirmed deceased. The son was on phone when bomb blast occurred. Prayers for the family and friends.

It is horrendous I can't imagine losing one child never mind two at the same time. It is tragic when young people are murdered and never get the chance to live life and reach the milestones they wanted to. These siblings were simply walking through an airport and now they are dead. It's a reminder terrorism could affect any one of us and how we need to live life to the full.

Sorry if this has been posted.

Israel was among those who warned Belgium ahead of the terrorist attack at the Zaventem airport in Brussels, Channel 2 News reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, Israel provided Belgium with concrete information on security breaches at the airport, where the first of two attacks on the Belgian capital took place on Tuesday, and claimed that "there are serious security deficiencies at the airport in Brussels".

The warnings reportedly came from Israeli security officials who are responsible to check airports across Europe in which flights to and from Israel depart and land. Those officials identified the security-related issues at the Zaventem airport and updated the Belgians about them.

The Channel 2 News follows a report in Haaretz earlier which said that Belgian intelligence services received specific warnings ahead of Tuesday's attacks but failed to properly investigate them.

According to Haaretz, the intelligence centers in Brussels, as well as in other Western countries, knew that terrorists would strike the Zaventem airport and, probably, the city's railway in the near future.

I just wanted to mention that new security measures had been put in place at Zaventem since dec.2015.My husband and I got an alert about the security this past monday and when we tried to go through it did not work for us for some reason and we had to go through a different gate.I think the new security was for airplane protection not for the airport itself.

There may or may not have been security problems, but this attack took place just inside the terminal building and well before passengers would have come into contact with any security measures except for armed police guards patrolling the terminal. Given what we now know, once the attackers were inside the terminal there was really no way to prevent the attack since shooting them would simply have released their grip on their detonators and therefore detonated the bombs. One thing which the security wallahs are going to have to think very hard about is just how you stop an attack in such circumstances.

Links have been posted to several articles discussing the weaknesses of the Belgian security services, not least of which is that they are under manned and under resourced. I imagine the Belgian authorities are going to be given a kick up the backside by other countries about these failings if they still seem unwilling or unable to address them.
Exactly. If they'd acted on the Intel that was passed on by official sources. They could of raided the places they have been since the attacks. That could of avoided possibly events that transpired. Maybe.

What I really really don't get is the 2 brothers were sent for trial. And we're passed down prison sentences. Which in theory they would of still be doing their 'time'
So how come they're out? Why are they 'out' and importantly WHO decided on their freedom?
Would it of been a sympathiser. Judge. Lawyer. ?.
I've read a lot of dubious postings about some of these Daesh/ISIS members having been handed down like a 10 year sentence. In 2013... so how does that work. They wouldn't of been. 'Inside' a long enough time for early release. Dodgy dealings there. Imo hmmmm

Off topic

I just wanted to wish everyone a happy and safe Easter weekend. I know it's hard not to think about these tragedies but spend time with your families and do things you enjoy.

It has been a very tragic week I just hope there is no more attacks planned and the security services of the European countries work together and share any intelligence they have.

Unfortunately I think it's more down to resentment. Especially here in the UK. We have been a multicultural country for years.
I used to be a kindergarten teacher before I became too ill to continue. But we'd celebrate Diwali Chinese New Year. Etc etc. We'd also celebrate Halloween Guy Fawkes Night Christmas Easter etc. It was all combined into the teaching plans I had to write up. Which led into discussions activities. And we'd have quiet time in the library. Just before mums and dads picked them up with singing nursery rhymes. Who remembers those? Baa Baa black sheep? Now it has to be Baa Baa multi coloured sheep. And so on. Most nursery rhymes as we know them have been deemed racist. As the library list. As our cooking activities with the children... to be honest I'm not a part of the schooling system anymore.
What with the hard push of health and safety. Racism in the classroom. Is it no wonder the world is as it is now?
Jmoo.....

And "smartness" to leave behind the cell - I thought I hope a terrorist is seeing this; so there we know you left it there to fool us you ah!! Just amazing

ANd seeing all the stuff on the floor gave me chills with the attic open and the ladder i wonder if when they would leave- would they would put everything up there?

Funeeeeeeee I was going to look up the chemical mentioned in the piece and I stopped!! I thought the FBI would be here in two minutes !!!!!!!! Boy the times we live in!

Reporting that the #2 Isis guy in Syria was killed today by US special ops. And the Brussels Metro terrorist that was on the run was caught. I just get this feeling like a domestic violence victim who goes to the police and is told that the abuser has to 'do something' before they can help. Why?

I do not have an answer. I think it makes most "happy" to hear stuff like this, IMO, hoever at the same time we need to remember that everyone has family etc.

SO, basically everyone we all kill, in realtiy makes more enemies, and since our foe, seems to have a greater inclination to die for there anger , in a way it makes it worse.

Again, I do not have an answer but the reality here is:

What they call war we call terrorism
what we call terrorism they call war

its circular.........................................and IMO will endless there is no win win here-----------------------------

I think you'll find those 'windows' in the bombers den are blast Shields. In case something went wrong. They may of sat within it as we're mixing ingredients as I hear some can be very volatile. Or they may of been brought in by police as they combed the building
Not knowing what they were gonna walk into

I so agree with Dotr post - that our answer is to keep adding "security". All they do is move to a softer target. Instead of focusing on the target of the latest one - we need to be solely focusing on what targets would impact the most humans. Power grid, water treatment, telecommunication, etc., internet.

Think about internet. The whole world would stop. How would retail check you out? How will banks know what is in your account? How would gas stations work? How would Rx be dispensed? Payroll? How would your eclectic /water usage be determined? How would the courts work?

How would stores get restocked? How would hospItals treat?Track food for livestock? Flight planning? Make a phone call ? Weather forecasting? One could not even work, nothing to do ! Military?Water sanitation?. 18 wheelers-how would anyone know what is in them? News gathered and diseminated? Mass transit continue? Irrigation?

The only positive I can come up with is the IRS would be fu^^ed !!

This attack again leaves me heartbroken. In August 2002 I became the first American to intern for an MP at the European Parliament. It is absolutely a wonderful city but while living there even so far back, tension was noticeable.

My cousin followed me to the European Parliament and was working there during the attacks. I had been offered a job to stay on long-term but returned to the US to finish my degree. I would likely have also been there had I not.

Some of the most wonderful memories in my life happened there and it's devastating to watch my old apartment [across the street from the Malbeek station bombing] on TV. Paris hurt as well as it's also a former home but this was different having family yards from the explosions and having worked right at one of the target areas.

My prayers are with the victims and their families. Also, for my cousin. She's physically unharmed but has been affected deeply after spending her day locked in her office staring at the end results of a terror attack that could have just have easily stamped out her life.

A security officer from a nearby nuclear power plant has been found murdered and his pass is missing.

The security officer was murdered on Thursday evening as he walked his dog in the city of Charleroi, but news of the killing only emerged on Saturday. His pass was quickly cancelled, according to officials.

Investigators are exploring a theory that the man, who has not been named, was killed to steal his pass and gain access to a nuclear facility. Nuclear power plants are known to be targets for the terror network behind the Brussels bombings and the Paris attacks in November.

Eleven nuclear workers in Belgium had their work passes revoked after intelligence warnings.

Re; A security officer from a nearby nuclear power plant has been found murdered and his pass is missing

Now that is scary. You know what I do ,right now, I would totally change every single employees badge, like color font size -today!!

RE: Eleven nuclear workers in Belgium had their work passes revoked after intelligence warnings.

IMO
In away at this point 11 sounds like a lot, leaving the assumotion that "all" were discovered. I wonder, how many total employyes (ie what percentage of stall were nerfarous) What postions were these folks - in terms "screenings" being done".

We have seen inside nuclear plants in videos -lots of nooks and crannies -has an intense search of entire facility been done to see if there are odd entites alredy in place?

Are there already like airport security checkpoints already in place.Might be a good idea , to company issued transparent back packs be the only thing allowed.

So they are all identical. This is fuc#$$ serious, taking them off the payroll is fine, but it sure gives clear indicators of intent .bomb sniffing dogs should Imo become permanetly 24/7 "on the payroll" NOW.Seems like Belgium Intel is getting a bad rap IMO

SInce Paris those guys , for four months, were arresting people and searching and searching. I dont know what so many countries are thinking?

Blaming them .......IMO they at least kept their eyes on the ball and continusly tried to get them off the streets. What else were they suppossed to do?

Question Does anyone know why LE cover up their faces when they arrest them??

RE:The plot would reportedly have featured two units of terrorists, one group who would use Kalashnikov rifles to shoot civilians and a second that would blow themselves up in crowded areas.

I heard a terrorist expert say this exact thing - that next up is going to be a mix of shooters and vests just like Paris. And he said that actually, for lack of a better word machine guns - actually have capacity to kill more. One would think a bomb would do more- but look at Paris.........

RE:RE:Abdeslam’s lawyer, Sven Mary, said Abdeslam would not fight extradition to France, saying his client “wanted to explain himself in France.” WTH????

May be off here - but I am finding the interviews with those in the hospital very moving. But it occurred to me, that outside of the band in Paris I do not recall journalists going to hospials for bedside "interviews"

I don't know if I heard it right, (cause they used a still picture in that moment) but I thought it was really rude, when the basketball player paused, and I think Muir said "that's it?"

link from earlier post with basketball player bedside interview by David Muir:

http://www.detroitnews.com/story/ne...nd-player-recounts-brussels-attacks/82202290/

I was "gone" for several days! And I just realized as I get caught up this gets scarier and scarier. Its not like I lay in bed and worry, but as I am reading all this it "feels" like another one is coming soon. Maybe because time had passed since Paris, so you kinda feel like maybe its calmed down.

There has to be , even if only on a tiny level the arrest Friday of him had to impact Tues.Even if only in terms of "when".

However we are now arresting a lot ,so it seems logical that another trigger (pardon use of word) is occurring. The piece with their apt said they had 33 pounds of the explosive.

That number stunned me.That is like two really big bags of dogfood!! I don't know how much is needed for a suicide belt, but I never ever imagined stockpiled bombs. For some reason I thought its like just made for they event.

Or to put it another way, if they did not raid that unit, I assume they were to "roll" again. IIRC in Paris their vests had 13 pounds each..

In a vast, chilly cargo hangar in Brussels, terror attack survivors must walk among neat rows of 6,000 bags to find the one with their name.

Backpacks, suitcases and prams on planes which had landed or were about to touch down at the time of the attack are being collected.
But luggage abandoned inside the terminal is still there because the airport remains an active investigation zone after Tuesday's attack

They also discovered a computer in a bin with Ibrahim El Bakraoui's suicide note, in which he apparently stated that he felt unsafe in the wake of the arrest of Paris terrorist Salah Abdeslam last Friday.

That is first time I heard a direct statement regarding impact of Freday on Tues

The terrorists had planned to take a total of four suitcases with them before unleashing the slaughter, but the taxi firm apparently provided a smaller vehicle than they had requested

Turkish authorities revealed today that after being returned to Europe, El Bakraoui returned to Turkey once again, only to be deported for a second time in August.
