Parents of 4 year old Dean Verberckmoes contacted police after they could not get in touch with their friend/babysit Dave de Kock for two days.

The police in East Flanders speaks of a 'disturbing disappearance' in the search for 34-year-old Dave De Kock and 4-year-old Dean Verberckmoes. They were last seen in Sint-Niklaas five days ago. Since then, every trace has been missing.

Babysitter friend
Yesterday the police were notified by the boy's parents, because they cannot get in touch with the befriended babysitter by phone. He is said to have looked after the boy regularly in the past, always without any problems.

In addition to the babysitter and the boy, they are also looking for the man's car. It is a gray Peugeot 206 with number plate 2-ACR-250.

Police are urging anyone who knows more to get in touch as soon as possible.

I really don't know what to think of this one... Hopefully they will be found safe soon.

last seen 5 days ago, reported missing yesterday...I know this guy is a family friend, but they waited 3 days to report their kid missing? If this guy has always been trustworthy, I'd call PD immediately out of concern because I'd think they got in an accident, car broke down and they got stranded, etc

My thoughts exactly. If anything happened to them- temperatures are currently a big risk factor, you'd want to find them ASAP.

When you Google the name of the babysitter, you get results for a then 20 yo who tortured a 2 yo to death in 2008

It is strange the parents took so long to call police. Had he taken off with the boy before?

I'm not finding that. Could you post it please?

Just seen the news. It’s a big news in The Netherlands ( where I am from) since both countries are so close. Timing of reporting him missing is strange why wait so long? Hope he is found unharmed, with the car information someone might spot them.

Oh god. I’m certainly no facial recognition expert but they do look similar.

(For those trying to find it, the other little boy was called Miguel)

Lol sorry, here's the Google Translate version:

Dave De Kock has been sentenced by the criminal court of Turnhout to ten years effective for the abuse of toddler Miguel Van Kriekinge from Ravels. Miguel died in hospital from his injuries on July 2, 2008.

The two-year-old was taken to hospital by his stepfather Dave De Kock on June 25, 2008 with severe head and body injuries. A few days later, the boy died in the Antwerp University Hospital of a cerebral hemorrhage. Immediately after the facts, Dave De Kock was arrested by the public prosecutor of Turnhout.

The criminal court of Turnhout today sentenced Dave De Kock to ten years effectively for inhumane acts on a minor. The twenty-something from Mortsel was known in the area as an aggressive drug user. Mother Sandra Verbeek, who herself had failed to take her son to the hospital, was sentenced to two years' probation for guilty negligence.

The lawyer of Mike van Kriekinge, Miguel's father, is very disappointed. The defense had argued for Dave De Kock to be tried for torture and manslaughter, but the judge had withheld this referral. The father will probably not appeal.

To clarify: it has not been said this Dave de Kock is the same as the Dave de Kock that has Dean. However, the names, age and region match (within 30 minutes of Antwerp).

News articles have been updated to say they deem it possible he has changed the license plates of the car and that he possibly crossed the border to the Netherlands. If people see him they are urged not to make contact but call police o_O

I thought that’s a big possibility for him to cross the border into the Netherlands. With new plates it might be hard to find them after few days . They could be anywhere Netherlands, Germany etc.. anywhere in EU ( northern parts at least by looking at time)

Sounds like this " friend" groomed this family. I wonder how long they knew him.

Moeder van ontvoerde Dean (4) smeekt: “Laat mijn zoon op een veilige plek achter, dat is het enige wat ik vraag”

Mother of kidnapped Dean (4) pleads: "Leave my son in a safe place, that's all I ask")

“Dean had minor surgery on Tuesday, and I took care of him at home all night on Tuesday,” says mother EV. For medical reasons, she was unable to pay attention to her son on Wednesday. She arranged for Dean to spend one night with one of her friends in Sint-Gillis-Waas: friend R. and her partner Dave De Kock.

Sometime during that week, Dave De Kock and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument. She had put him at the door: "Leave!" “He left Friday night, and he took Dean with him,” the mother says. Why he did that is unclear. The girlfriend did not dare to tell the mother that.

On Saturday, the mother went to the police. She still had De Kock on the phone at 2.30 pm on Saturday: “He claimed that he was in Hasselt, but that he had a flat tire and that a tow truck was on the way. That all turned out to be a lie.”

From the article above it seems that Dave was a partner of mom’s friend. Maybe they didn’t know him very well? . All my friends and family in the Netherlands are on a lookout for him and a car . Let’s hope the message spreads into neighbouring countries and people call in.
