Found Deceased Belgium - Dean Verberckmoes 4, w/babysitter Dave de Kock 34, Sint-Niklaas, 12 Jan 2022 *Arrests*

What gets to me is that Dean was most likely at the wrong place at the wrong time. Dave had no beef with Dean, and he did not hurt Dean to get to Dean's mother. It was pure sadism. Dave was "wronged" (fight with his gf) and someone had to pay.

Yes that’s unfortunate for Dean to have met Dave . Dave seems to be a typical cowardly abuser lashing out his anger towards small kids who can’t fight back. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did more abuse in the time he was out of jail. You don’t go from killing a child to another one with perfect life in between. It’s sad that the system has failed Dean and I wish that he was reported missing earlier . It all could have been prevented by keeping Dave locked up.

Dean had a sibling. I wonder if she was at that house at the same time and what she had/has to say or knows about this all. I hope she hasn’t experienced and witnessed anything. It’s traumatising enough without. Poor kids. What a cruel cruel situation for them.

I fear that some disturbing details will come to light since Dean stayed with them regularly. It’s telling that gf was scared to tell mum about Dave taking Dean. She had to know something to be scared. Unfortunately it might turn out that Dean was abused for quite sometime under their care. I really hope that I’m wrong about that.

The sibling is 7 years old. Old enough to talk about what she witnessed. I hope she wasn’t there when anything happened.

Wow. Was she involved or was she arrested for not telling anyone about him leaving with the boy?
From the article:
- she knew by Thursday that Dave had the child but didn't inform anyone until Saturday
- she said she could not tell which clothes Dave had been wearing, it appears now that this was a lie
- her statements don't match Dave's

Dean Verberckmoes: Police find body of Belgian four-year old

English language article (which led me to seek this thread out), doesn't really say anything not already mentioned here though, and completely omits the girlfriend so it's a bit vague - they probably didn't want to name her until/unless she's charged with anything though.

I cant get over the "cuddly uncle" bit.

I think Dean was deceased at their house, the couple fought over the crisis, Dave left to hide the body and abscond.

That's where my mind is going and I have a feeling it happened on Wednesday, hence why he wasn't taken to G'mas on Thursday.

DPG Media Privacy Gate

- Suspect was in Koudekerke on Saturday. Residence is sealed off, the person that lives at that residency has not been arrested
- Neighbours in Koudekerke did not see Dean on Saturday, only Dave
- the girlfriend was intoxicated when arrested (alcohol)
- she is being charged with "schuldig verzuim" which means negligence according to Google Translate. Exact charges will depend on further investigation (I imagine TOD)
- Dave dropped the car off at a car wrecking company. It is now with the police.

ETA: from this article it appears the residence he was at on Saturday belongs to someone he met while he was in prison.

Regarding "schuldig verzuim":

Guilty default can be paid with a term of eight days to one year and with a fine of 50 to 500 euros (plus surcharges). If the person at risk is a minor or in a vulnerable condition such as age, pregnancy, an illness or physical infirmity and this was known to the subject, the term can be up to two years.

He left his car at a wrecking company; therefore not too crazy to assume something happened in the car.

The girlfriend - IMO - possibly left the killer alone with the child, and made up the argument story as some sort of lame cover.

The previous case which he was tried for, he was said to have been a heavy user of drugs. What kind of drugs I don't know, but it is possible he was psychotic (not a defence in any way, just saying) from those drugs and that would be the same reason he couldn't be interviewed immediately. The only other drugs I imagine would prevent someone being interviewed are heavy sedatives, e.g. heroin or Seroquel or something like that, that would have rendered him unconscious; but then it's hard to arrest someone who's unconscious.

We should all take a lot of care in who we leave our children. Upthread someone mentioned about monitoring of this guy; the UK has the 'VISOR' system (*Violent and* Sexual Offender's Register). It's used to monitor sex offenders but also murderers. There's no way this guy would not have been monitored more under such a system. It's absolutely insane that this was allowed to happen, there is a lot of blame to be shared by many parties, and it is an utter waste of that little boy's life and future.
