Here's what I think may have happened. On October 9, it was announced the family was going to set up a trust fund - Mike Lerette was their spokesperson at the time. On October 12, the benefactor was announced. IMO, he called Kristi to ask for a donation and she offered the $100,000 so they could concentrate on finding Lisa - she then got in touch with Stanton and asked him to go to KC to help find her. In turn, I think Stanton probably knew Tacopina from being a NYC cop...and asked him to take the case because it would give them both media exposure (his media connections). JMO
Baby Lisa's parents set up fund to help find the girl as police say couple are finally cooperating again amid suspicion of their involvement
"As the parents of missing 10-month-old Lisa Irwin's parents patch up talks with police amid a cloud of suspicion, the Missouri couple says they will set up a trust fund in hopes of finding their daughter.
But family spokesman Mike Lerette said Jeremy Irwin and Deborah Bradley will be giving fewer media interviews, because they want full attention on finding their daughter."
NY man: Benefactor asked he help find missing baby
" A New York-based security consultant who said he was hired by a wealthy benefactor to help search for a missing baby in Kansas City got little response Wednesday from police who have been looking for the child for more than a week."
<snip>
"He said he has worked as a consultant for “major media organizations,” and the website for a consulting firm that lists him as a founding partner said he was a New York police officer before moving into private investigative work."
