Well my first concern had been is it possible someone accosted him and got in his car in the restaurant parking lot and was in the vehicle with him when he drove out? But the fact he called a colleague at 9:26 makes me think that isn't the case. I am very curious how that call with his colleague went and what was said.

The most straightforward and likely explanation is he sadly crashed somewhere. It would make a lot more sense though if he was driving in the direction of home. What made him drive east away from home?

Prayers he's found soon. I have a sense LE knows more than they're saying.

If I'm reading the ping maps correctly, he is driving in the exact opposite direction of home.

I have lived in Crystal Lake since 1998. None of this makes any sense to me. From the restaurant to Randall Road, to the Elgin toll is in perfect time. Not one fraction off. Pinging in Rosemont by the exchange to the 294N on ramp where he'd be home, and then disappearing into thin air. I am at a total loss of thoughts.

My daughter and I were just talking about that. Her and I would have taken different roads from that restaurant, less miles. But my hubby would have taken that route. As you see from 1776 to the Elgin toll was in no time at all. Sometimes from that on ramp to where he last pinged, at 80 mph, is 15 min. Then he would take 294 N a straight shot home.

I know Ben. He is very intelligent, smart, easy-going guy, and passionate about his work. I don’t believe he would have become so intoxicated at Restaurant 1776—one of his regular accounts—that he’d completely lose his sense of direction, unless he thought he was going to get back home faster by reaching Rosemont first and then heading straight north to New Berlin, perhaps avoiding a more direct route in the pouring rain.

We don’t know who he spoke to on the phone after leaving the restaurant; this person might (or might not) know more about his movements. I hope he's found safe soon.

Sadly, a car was reportedly found in a creek near Route 294N and I90 by the Rosemont-Chicago Fire Department. [Link](https://x.com/NBCSky5/status/1857551980530430310)

That's good information, from a local. When I google the route to take, I get 3 choices and none of them take you south. But it sounds like, some people do that.

Hey Cubby! Good to "see" you! I remember you from the "old days"... John Spira, etc.... I always valued your input and ideas!

100%.

Laura totally! From my house in Crystal Lake, taking Randall Road to the 90 is exactly 9 miles from my driveway to the Elgin toll on ramp. When I worked in Vernon Hills. That was the better route to take to route 60. There is no easy way from Crystal Lake to get anywhere without 1000 lights from here to there.

<modsnip - quoted post was removed>

The Illinois State Police have jurisdiction over the tollways. They would be the agency to submit tips.

This is exactly where Ben would have exited 90 to get onto 294 N to head home.

I'm not seeing any information about this crash. No information on witnesseses, time of day it occurred, make and model of vehicle, information on occupants. Nothing.

They aren't saying the vehicle matches the description of Ben's vehicle, but they aren't saying it's not his vehicle either. Frustrating.

New article I hadn't seen linked.

"Ben was in Crystal Lake, Illinois at the 1776 Restaurant. He left at 8:56 p.m. and drove out of the parking lot at 9:02 p.m. He hasn't been seen since.

24 minutes after leaving the restaurant, phone records show he called a colleague. And a moment after that his iPASS went through an Illinois toll to the south, near the city of Elgin, though it's not confirmed Ben was in the car at that time.

The last time his phone pinged was at 9:47 p.m. in Rosemont, Illinois.

Laura said police showed Ben never entered O'Hare airport or got on any flights, and they checked all the businesses, hotels, morgues, and hospitals, but found nothing.

And right now, Laura is trying to get records of Ben's text messages to see if there was anything sent or received that would cause him to not head straight home from the restaurant.

"I want people to know how loved he is. By family, by friends, and the community coming together," she said.

Next Sunday, Ben and Laura were planning a 10-day trip to Maine to see his family over Thanksgiving."

I'd like to get an update on that car found in the creek though as that seems relevant until proven otherwise.

Have any authorities confirmed or denied that there is a body in this vehicle?

Have any OTHER 'missing' been reported in the relevant timeframe and location? (If not, then it is more likely HIM.)

  • Last phone call was at 9:26 p.m. that night.
  • His phone was last pinged in the area of Chicago, Rosemont and O’Hare Int'l Airport at 9:47 p.m.
  • By 10:11 p.m. his phone went straight to voicemail.
  • His vehicle does not have the manufacturer’s STARLINK security and multimedia service.

Locations related to Ben Oberto missing person investigation

….

Police also checked the area and found no signs of Oberto, his vehicle or his phone at any businesses, hotels, morgues or hospitals.

The ping location is the same location a vehicle was pulled from the creek alongside the northbound ramp from 90 to 294N
