Williams says her understanding was the company's goal was "aircraft maintenance." "After a while, it was decided it was going to be used for aircraft rental space." They would be renting the space for planes overnight -- kind of like a "hotel for aircraft," Moodie quips.
by Adam Carter 2:41 PM

Income from the aircraft rental space was "very minimal," she says. "It was not very often that it was used."

Jury back. Lisa Williams called to the stand. She is a bookkeeper. Works with husband Charles Dubiens who does computers, security cameras.

They do contract work. She did bookkeeping for other companies. One of her clients was Millardair. Knew of Dellen Millard in 2001.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 6m6 minutes ago
She met Dellen later than that. Jan. 2012 she started to do Millardair books. Met Dellen before that "a handful of times."

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 5m5 minutes ago
Dealt more with Wayne Millard, Dellen's father up until January 2012. Hangar was being built, finished toward end of 2012.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 4m4 minutes ago
About 14 employees of Millardair. Late 2012 Dellen took over Millardair "after his father passed." No income for Millardair under Wayne.

Wasn't Dubiens one of the text message names that we were introduced to earlier in the trial?

After Dellen Millard took over the company, the workforce changed, Williams says. "The employees were let go. Except there was one that remained on." That was Shane Schlatman.
by Adam Carter 2:38 PM

Her job was keeping track of expenses.
by Adam Carter 2:39 PM

There was a lone for the company taken out in Oct. 2012, to buy equipment needed to keep the business going. It was for approximately $3.7M, Williams says.
by Adam Carter 2:40 PM (I assume he means 'loan')

And WM was dead the very next month, wasn't he?

Up until May 10, 2013, the Millard hangar wasn't used to rent out aircraft space at all, Williams says.
by Adam Carter 2:43 PM

"Was there any income coming in to that particular business, ma'am?" Moodie asks. "Not up until that day," she responds.

So MA gets $3.7M for equipment needed for the MRO, and DM promptly closes the MRO and leaves the hanger empty, hoping to rent the empty space...I wonder what the bank thought of his loan at that point?

  • #206
Hmmm....a 3.7 million dollar loan taken out in October 2012 and WM dead by the end of November.

  • #207
Yeah, the plot thins.

No income coming in to Millardair, she says. Payroll was Schlatman, Dellen and Madeleine Burns who is Dellen's mother. She had no job there.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 6s6 seconds ago
Dellen also had no "occupation" at Millardair. Williams would invoice her service to Millardair. She wasn't privy to financial status.

Uh huh

Explains the ready access to cash to buy property.

The only people being paid by MIllardAir after Dellen Millard took over were Millard himself, his mother, and Shane Schlatman, Williams says.
by Adam Carter 2:45 PM

There was no title or occupation for Millard or his mother on the books.
by Adam Carter 2:45 PM

Williams says she wasn't paid as an employee -- she would invoice the company.
by Adam Carter 2:46 PM

She says she wasn't privy to the business financial situation as a whole.

So, was equipment purchased, and if not, who got the use of that 3.7M?

Williams says she was paying the company's taxes.
by Adam Carter 2:47 PM

Before May 2013 she was doing payroll, Williams says. She would enter information into "Quick Books" -- but she didn't personally write checks. Wayne Millard did it before he died, then Dellen Millard did it after he died.

I'm sure that's exactly what WM had envisioned when he was putting everything he owned into the Waterloo venture. MOO

She just entered info into books. Didn't write the cheques.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 41s42 seconds ago
Wayne's wrote the cheques. After he died, Dellen did it.

"I would not personally pay, or write cheques for anything," Williams says. Now she says taxes were done by a chartered accountant -- which is contrary to what she said a couple of minutes ago.
by Adam Carter 2:49 PM

Williams says she didn't control any of Millard's personal property.
by Adam Carter 2:50 PM

"When was the last time you personally saw Mr. Millard?" Moodie asks. "May 3, 2013," she responds. It was at the hangar in Waterloo.
by Adam Carter 2:51 PM

She had texted him about bills after that date. She says she believes he had paid employee taxes but a utility bill hadn't been paid.

So Wayne gets a multi-million dollar loan and then kills himself??? ok then. JMO

Looks like a brand new 3.7 million dollar motive for murder just showed up..... maybe?

"There was no business going on at that time," Williams says. "It was open, we were there for a meeting, but that's it. There was no business operations."
by Adam Carter 2:53 PM

There was a mention that Millard and Shane were going to "go back to do a race," she says -- that's a Baja keep race in Mexico.
