Noticed tha too. What the heck is a tag?
I noticed their "gratitudes" at the dinner table but I didnt know that made them Wiccan, does it? Or maybe your husband saw something else?
Milkier and Boobior
Kids should NOT have an opinion of my breasts, the way these two girls carry on. Their opinion has been impressed upon them by their mother (again IMHO).
I made hubby watch the video and he noticed they are Wiccan (I'm not bashing this religion here, honestly). I can see where this comes from now, sorta, based on what I know of their beliefs. I actually think they missed an opportunity for sympathetic understanding by not talking about that aspect. It's still way too much for me to accept.
I'm assuming he based that on their prayer. The only thing I know about them is that they are very "natural" type believers. No shots, all food organic, etc.. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
<< spewing my drink all over myself >>I am going to show this to my dh. I TOLD him he was too old to breastfeed. But he carries those damn Oreos around looking for milk. shameful.
I got the idea that with the mom in the video it is not being done to supplant the child meeting its own nutritional needs but rather to "let" it be the childs call on when it no longer "wants/needs" the emotional connection being provided
but dont you both have to agree as a parent, we know more than the childGood post. I don't know that the Mom in this video approached it from either vantage point. She approached it more from a - "when the child is ready, the child will wean" - a standpoint not really rooted in biology or social norms.
I have no idea, but my thoughts were similar. Good observation on you and DH's part!
both posts snipped by j2m
but dont you both have to agree as a parent, we know more than the child
about their " needs and wants"- to me this is all about HER want and needs-
MY concern is the long term emotional effect on the children- especially after she allowed the scenario to be vidio taped= I just beleive this is all about her in a very strange way that I cant wrap my mind around
ok, i made myself watch all of it. i was like... to carry on a coversation about this, i have to!
THEY HAVE NAMED THE BOOBIES! not only that, but they DRAW PICTURES OF THIS!
I dont agree- I dont think these 2 girls needed any prompting - their names for the breasts, knowing which one gave the most milk, and drawings were notI think perhaps that was only for the benefit of the video, Pedi. The girls seemed very "prompted" in doing both, imo.
my thoughts exactlyEwwww...do we have to?!?! Not sure I can live thru it again!
I haven't watched the video, because an 8 yr old breastfeeding is something I just do not wish to see, but this is a very valid point.I think her explanation does have merit. The context of her mentioning sexuality is such that it is a societal norm that most people could see something wrong with a mother breastfeeding longer, but a 20 yo girl walking around showing off her breasts is perfectly fine. She was making the point that society is pretty screwed up in their thinking about sexuality to begin with...I happen to agree.
but I have one that is a thumb sucker and I truly believe the comfort comes from the habit- sucking ones thumb at 8 or sucking a mothers breast for milk at 8 are simply 2 so totally different things- and again- I still say this is somehow allllll about the mom- not sexually - just wrongYes - I've already said that I'm not a child-centeredtype of parent and that my kids weaned from things (breast, bottle, pacifiers, diapers) when I felt like it was time.
But I don't consider this 7 year old breast-feeding much different from a 7-year-old who sucks her thumb for comfort from time to time. It's just comfort and habit. I don't know why the video was made - maybe in connection with a pro-breastfeeding thing.
I think it's unusual in our culture, but I don't think it's inherently harmful.
LMAO!!!!line the family up!![]()
Well, the bus driver pulled off at the next stop, and he had radioed for police, who arrested her for exposing herself!!She was outraged, as were we all. She had the charge dismissed but it was very indicative that something is terribly wrong when breasts are viewed first as sexual objects for men and secondarily as a woman's own body and the source of nourishment for her own baby. BTW, her son was an infant, around 6 months old.
