Found Deceased CA - Alex Holden, 25, Sacramento, 31 Dec 2019

This seems like a case where that conclusion would come quick.

Even if there wasn’t water in the lungs (there very well may be), the lack of any trauma and the overall circumstances, just lend themselves to this being an accident.

I imagine toxicology will be performed, but don’t think the results will change anything.

Which is precisely what many of us thought from the beginning. A tragic set of circumstances that we see far too often.
What about a possible suicide.

Will the coroner be able to tell if Alex accidentally fell in the river or purposely did it?

I don’t think so. In that case, I imagine they’d simply call it “accidental.”

Unless they know something we don’t, I just can’t imagine they could ever reach that conclusion.

Had the circumstances been different, and he expressed suicidal ideation prior, then it would be possible. That doesn’t seem to be the case.

In my opinion it's premature to conclude that Alex's death was accidental.

I'm going to wait on the coroner's report.

Oh man, this story got me... :(

[...]

Holden recalled the moment he said he knew that his son was special. The family was heading out to meet the preschool teacher of Alex's older sister.

"Alex said, wait, wait, I got to go get something. I said we're going to be late. He said, wait. We're waiting. He goes in. We're waiting," explained Holden. "He comes back out and has something wrapped. He hands it to Calie and said you need to have something to give your teacher the first time you meet her. It was his favorite stuffed animal. That's when I knew how compassionate and what a great person he is."

‘He filled every second of his life,’ father of Alex Holden shares son’s life after body found
[...]

According to the family, detectives say his death was ruled an accident.

An autopsy was performed, according to Calvin, the cause of death to be released to the family later this week.

Alex’s father says his son was an adventurer and an all-around kind person.

“He filled every second of his life,” Calvin said. “When he wanted to do something, he threw himself into it. He started running, he did a half marathon, marathon. I was going to go out and watch him do a 100-mile race in April. He was open, gregarious. He wanted to make every second count. One of his friends had told her dad that we’ve known forever, that she had never heard Alex say anything bad about anybody.”

This just breaks my heart.

Heartbreaking interview with Alex's dad at link.

"As I understand it, the water had been up in the river because of the rain the last couple of weeks. In the last two or three days the water went down enough that he was found in a little marshy, shallow area," explained Holden.

When asked if Alex would take his own life, his father said there's no chance. bbm

"It's not him. He would never do that. He was one of the happiest people you'd ever know," he said.

An autopsy performed Monday will help determined how Alex died.

As of now, police do not suspect foul play.

It never occurred to me until now that this happened on New Year’s Eve? Which is a fairly major holiday, wrapping up what is for many a stressful season...though maybe not a factor...just noticed it.

Me, too. I haven't had a case affect me this way in a long, long time. I really wish things had turned out differently.

For those who have enquired:

Excerpt from Tricia's earlier post:

Same with Reddit. I LOVE Reddit. They are a great group and site for all kinds of discussions but again there is no way to check out if things are factual over there.
Please stick to information law enforcement releases and the mainstream media sources we have allowed in the past. This includes Crimeonline.com The site belongs to Nancy Grace and several of her writers/contributors post here.

You have to remember when reporters first report on a case - they ALL make mistakes.... so I don't think anyone is "rewriting" what happened - they just don't get the facts straight the first. We have seen this happen in MANY cases here....

DBM already updated

If Alex did go off somewhere deep enough, this is the timeframe that we might have expected to see him surface, as well (and then possibly float to the marshy area he was found). The cold water and weather would have kept the decomp that causes a body to float at bay for some time, I believe this was right around when we would have seen that change.

I’ll look for a link regarding drownings and float times in different temps so take this as MOO.

We see this constantly, egregious errors - and as of late it seems even worse...with the push to be the first with the story it’s a constant issue.

I’m not surprised in the least that the first MSM stories had it wrong. Definitely not some vast conspiracy to change the circumstances.

Completely agree. I don’t understand the callousness. I don’t know if you could even tell conclusively if he jumped or fell from a bridge but either way his family and friends lost their loved one way too young.

so how far did he actually walk?

IMO if he was in the water, it is amazing that his phone and passport survived being in the water so long. He must have had them secured in a pocket.
