Found Deceased CA - Alex Holden, 25, Sacramento, 31 Dec 2019

Completely agree. I don’t understand the callousness. I don’t know if you could even tell conclusively if he jumped or fell from a bridge but either way his family and friends lost their loved one way too young.
Totally. There seems to be some misplaced hostility on this thread for some odd reason from some posters. The important thing is that Alex lost his life, and his family is grieving.

It's just weird. What's the motive? The well-educated, well-off family of the victim is protecting the homeless person who killed him? If there were/are any indications of foul play this is the exact type of victim family that would demand justice and put pressure on LE IMO.

Well, dang it. I want to know why there is hostility over the search and why the area "where he was found" has changed. (Or not).

I'm thinking that if anyone here has a question about where the body was 'really' located (and is local) maybe call one of the local media who reported that, and ask them about it. I think I would if there was any confusion in my thoughts. I would be interested to hear what the reporter says.

The below does sound like a plausible explanation.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I have not read anywhere in MSM or from Alex's family that he jumped off a bridge. The only thing that has been reported is that he was found on a riverbank. If LE was staging off the bike trail near the river, its entirely possible that both facts are true. LE does not always stage exactly where a body is found. They need to park vehicles and search for evidence. They may have been looking for evidence where you saw the lights after 5pm - 2 hours after the body was found. If Alex did not have all of his belongings with him they may have expanded the search area to try to find his phone or keys or whatever. Crime scenes can cover large areas.

I don't really see who would benefit from changing the story from he was found in shrubbery to he was found on the river bank (in shrubbery). I guess I'm just not seeing the reason or need for anyone to secretly change a location. When there's no reason for doing something, the simplest explanation is usually the answer - original reporting reported exactly what reporters saw with their own two eyes and changed as LE/the family released more information about the exact location of the body.

No foul play suspected in death of missing Springfield man found in Sacramento

The body 25 year-old Alex Holden was found in a marshy area at the edge of the American River in Sacramento.

As I understand it, the water had been up in the river because of the rain the last couple of weeks. In the last two or three days the water went down enough that he was found in a little marshy, shallow area," explained Holden.

When asked if Alex would take his own life, his father said there's no chance.

If I'm not mistaken, if he was on the riverbank at mile marker 3, LE and coroner would have to park where they parked, right? It looks to me like they really couldn't get any closer, especially if there were homeless camped in the area. The discrepancy in reporting doesn't seem so jarring today after looking at this map. FWIW, I didn't realize that the railroad tracks were so close.

Unless LE opens an investigation (and I'm not expecting one) and as much as I want to know the circumstances, at this point I'm going to respect the family's privacy. It's not in my nature to stop asking questions but this time feels different, to me at least.

Woman found dead near bike trail in Sacramento was stabbed, police say

3:24 PM PST Jan 28, 2020

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Sacramento police said they are investigating the death of a woman who was found near a bike trail as a homicide.

Patrol officers went to the bike trail near Del Paso and Northgate boulevards around 2 a.m. Monday after a passerby found the woman's body, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Detectives said the woman had been stabbed. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release her name after her next of kin have been notified.

Crime scene investigators canvassed the area, but police have not released any information about a potential suspect or motive in the killing.

The woman was the second body found in the area in a two-day span.

On Sunday afternoon, police found a body in the American River near Highway 160. That body was later identified as 25-year-old Alex Holden.

No other information was provided.

Still curious if the woman that was found was a transient or someone that has possibly been also missing. Not that it makes their life any less valuable, but I'm curious to see whether that will affect the "no foul play" aspect of Alex's investigation.

There may be a discrepancy between the apparent dates of death between Alex and the female, of up to three weeks, for all we know, unless I missed some details. In which case a connection would seem unlikely. I assume time will tell more...jmo.

I think the world was cheated by the loss of Alex. Heartbreaking.

Finally caught up. Whew! So Alex was found in the river as as previously suspected by many. Poor Alex. I see where his dad said there wasn’t a chance it was intentional. For all their sakes, I hope not.

I’m curious about the woman found. Of course, it’s no doubt in no relationship to Alex’s disappearance.

Rest In Peace Alex Holden. Another life cut short too soon.

IMO

Since Alex was found downstream from the H street readings you linked, I wonder if tidal influence would be a factor.

At the I Street bridge on the Sacramento river just below the confluence with the American River the tides can make a difference in measurement in feet during a day. JMO

Sacramento River - I Street Bridge Tide Times, CA - WillyWeather

The American River has very clear water and is relatively shallow. The Sacramento River is much deeper and the water is murky. If you look on Google maps, you can see where the two rivers meet at Discovery Park just north of downtown Sacramento. From the Google images you can see that the American River water is mixing with the Sacramento River water after it enters the Sacramento River. There actually is a line that you can see between the two water sources. That would tell me that the tidal changes that impact the Sacramento water levels do not have much impact on the American River. If the tidal impact was strong, you would see the American River water getting murky before it merged with the Sacramento River.
