*Pretrial Hearing for both (@ 8:30am PT) – CA – Aranda Briones (16) (Jan. 13, 2019, Moreno Valley, not found) - *Gary Anthony Shover (21) arrested (2/11/18), charged (2/15/19) & arraigned (3/1/19) with 2nd degree murder & conspiracy to commit a crime. Plead not guilty. Held without bond.
*Owen Skylar Shover (18) ex-bf arrested (2/11/18), charged (2/15/19) & arraigned (3/1/19) with 2nd degree murder. Plead not guilty. Held without bond. Riverside County
2/15/19 arraignment hearing continued to 3/1. The DA’s office said it filed a special circumstance that alleges the Shovers were lying-in-wait before killing Briones. A guilty verdict would make each eligible for the death penalty.
3/1/19 Update: Both plead not guilty. No bond for Owen. Next preliminary hearing on 3/28 for both.
3/28/19 Update: Next Pretrial hearing for both on 4/12.

If this is the same "Owen" that dropped her off at the park, then it doesn't look good. So heartbreaking for her and her family.

Search Continues For Missing Moreno Valley Teen

"The family says a male named Owen told them he dropped Aranda off at the community park around 5 or 6 p.m. last Sunday.

“That is a name that has come up in this investigation. We are currently looking into that, as well as many others,” Willison said.

According to the family, Owen said after he dropped the teen off, she got into someone else’s car.

“It was a friend. I wanna say a bad choice of friends – Owen was that,” Horstkotte said."

It seems like very often when I’ve seen someone “drop someone off and they leave with someone else” this turns out to be a lie.

I'm sure this is common sense, but someone from the family needs to:

• Contact the cellular provider to preform a SIM-swap on the phone.
• After her cellphone number has been ported over to a new device - reset the social media accounts if they were protected with 2FA. (This includes the Instagram, Snapchat, Gmail, etc.)
• Read the privates messages from these social media accounts and take note of the recently contacted people.

Hopefully from there some progress could be made on this case.

According to family, murder suspect Owen Shover was her ex-boyfriend and considered him to be a suspect. It was also reported that Owen’s was the person who dropped Aranda off at the park and the last person to see her.


My guess is revenge. Some guys just can't deal with rejection.

Pair Accused Of Killing Missing RivCo Girl Plead Not Guilty

Briones was last seen Jan. 13 in Moreno Valley Community Park, at the intersection of Cottonwood Avenue and Frederick Street, where she had been visiting with friends and relatives.

Sheriff's Lt. Chris Durham said Owen Shover -- a friend of Briones from Moreno Valley High School -- was the last person to have seen the girl alive. Durham said investigators spoke to Shover, who allegedly claimed he had dropped Briones at the park, where she was picked up by somebody in a four-door sedan. But Durham said that surveillance cameras from the area undercut Shover's story.

"The camera system was reviewed and ultimately it destroys the timeline that he provided," Durham said last month.

A neighbor of the Shovers told reporters that she saw sheriff's investigators digging in the backyard of the brothers' home, where they unearthed clothing and blankets.

"Evidence was collected that confirmed ... Miss Briones was the victim of a homicide and points at these two brothers," Durham said.

Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the killing.

Gary Anthony Shover, 21, and Owen Skyler Shover, 18, were arrested last Feb in connection with the death of Aranda Briones. They're both charged with murder and a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait.

No surprise here.

The Shovers had another opportunity today to start the preliminary process but defense requested another continuance for September 20, 2019 at the Hall of Justice Dept. 53 in Riverside at 8:30 am.

The Shovers can file as many continuances as the court will them!

The investigation continues but I'm afraid there's no pressure for anybody to talk.
