Mother, 10-year-old daughter missing in California coast camping trip

MISSING MOTHER & DAUGHTER: The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is asking for your help to locate 29 year old Audrey Rodrigue and her 10 year old daughter Emily. The pair flew to the Bay Area from Canada for a camping trip along the California coast, but Audrey's boyfriend in Canada hasn't heard from them since Sunday. He reported them missing when they never arrived at the Pigeon Point Hotel near Pescadero, where they were supposed to stay.

The mother and daughter are supposed to be driving a rented gray 2018 Ford Focus with California license plate: 8-D-I-N-9-0-0. If you spot them please put in a call to 9-1-1.

Audrey Rodrigue texted her boyfriend, who is in Canada, on Sunday, but "he was unable to contact her after receiving the text," the sheriff's office said Monday.

"Both park staff and other campers thought they saw Audrey and Emily there, but they left without knowing the Park Ranger's came looking for them," the sheriff's office said. "It is believed they might have stopped at free camp sites along the coast. The neighbors and camp staff said Audrey and Emily appeared to be happy and not in distress."

So, this might might be a stupid question, but if the mom and daughter were at the campground as they had planned, then why is there so much concern?
Perhaps Audrey is trying to break things off with her boyfriend and doesn't want to be in contact with him.
as I Wonder why there is no mention of anyone else being concerned about their whereabouts?
Perhaps her phone has no signal out there in the wilderness- I really have no idea what those areas are like- close or far to cell towers??!!

Audrey and Emily are from Canada and they arrived at SFO on 8/25/18. They came to the area to camp at various locations throughout California and rented a car at the airport (see description above). They checked into the Vagabond Hotel in Burlingame shortly after and checked out on 8/26/18 before noon. Audrey sent her boyfriend (still in Canada) a text message on 8/26/18, but he was unable to contact her after receiving the text. It is believed Audrey and Emily were headed to the Pigeon Point Hotel but they never arrived.
Audrey's boyfriend reported them missing on 8/27/18. Audrey had a reservation for the Fish Lake Campgrounds located in the Six Rivers National Forest (Orleans, CA) for the 28th. US Forrest Service Rangers checked the camp area for Audrey and Emily showing photos of them to other campers and staff. Both park staff and other campers thought they saw Audrey and Emily there, but they left without knowing the Park Ranger's came looking for them. It is believed they might have stopped at free camp sites along the coast. The neighbors and camp staff said Audrey and Emily appeared to be happy and not in distress.
We have sent “Be on the Lookout” flyers to all local law enforcement and allied agencies, but now we are asking for your help. If anyone has seen Audrey, Emily and or their rental car, please call 911, or Detective Fava at 650-363-4192.

so it sounds like maybe they just skipped the second hotel- pigeon point- for the sunday reservation. Must have wanted to just get right to camping- which seemed like the whole point of the trip. As folks apparently saw them at their first planned campground- fish lake.

ETA: But were they going to camp at that one site for consecutive nights? If not, and they decided to move on, she'd want to contact the BF, though, I'd imagine.

Yeah, the boyfriend text, I think perhaps something was going on there. I don't know, who knows except them and the police, but thinking maybe she was trying to end things. Just seems like odd string of events.

Maybe she just wanted to escape and be left alone with her daughter and nature. So I would hope that's what's going on .... Mom and daughter quietly enjoying themselves in God's great outdoors!! ... Odd too though that the police reacted so quickly?

I'm not at all familiar with the area. I'm an East coast girl!! What's up with Humboldt??!

Humboldt sits in the midst of what is known as the Emerald Triangle. I don't want to derail this thread - there are a couple of interesting threads on WS about it, and plenty if you do a little goog1e searching.

There are several interesting angles of the Triangle to stumble into in that area.

Need more eyes here - and folks on foot looking for these 2.

She keeps her FB pretty private. She reminds me a lot of myself and my daughter from what I can see, into new adventures and trying different things. If she is anything like me she may just have gone somewhere else on impulse.

Wow, I have no idea how pinterest works but prolific? Yes, indeed, it appears that way - wow, that's a lot of colors and shapes and ack, I have a headache! - but I can't see dates. Was she posting often and then it all of a sudden stops? That is my question... for starters.

ETA: but also, posting wedding stuff doesn't necessarily mean anything. Just sayin... people are different. Not right or wrong, just different. And while wedding ideas might be indicative of bigger plans, it also might not...

I hope these women are okay and enjoying their mommy-daughter time. I really hope that is all this is...

Ha! I know! Pinterest is crazy!! I can get sucked in for hours!!! And end up with my head spinning!!

I don't think specific dates can be found, just by weeks. So it looks like she was posting regularly until last week. "One week ago" seems to be the the last group of pins. But it was every week prior, pretty regularly, that she was pinning.

Really great point about the wedding ideas.... Some women do have wedding plans laid out without a man even in their lives yet!

Similarly, she has a "baby crazy" section on her Pinterest page... Ideas of wanting to have another child whether that is realistic or not!

Praying they are safe and happy and located soon so their safety is confirmed.

Burlingame to Pigeon Point looks like an awesome scenic route, although treacherous from what I have read. Odd though that they’d then travel nearly 8 hours north to Six Rivers, having gone a few hours south from Burlingame. I’m inclined to write off the sighting at Six Rivers as witnesses are notoriously incorrect & may have just seen a blonde adult with a female child, both bearing a vague resemblance.

That means there’s no confirmed sighting since Burlingame. Do hire vehicles have GPS over there? Would be useful if so.

I totally agree about witnesses being frequently incorrect... My friends and I actually had an entertaining conversation about this this weekend regarding a casual observation and our very very very mixed up and incorrect memories regarding it. But it led to the agreement of the unfortunate and sometimes scary truth that witnesses of crimes, etc often think they know what they saw and they are actually are very mistaken.

However, that being said, according to its website Fish Lake Campground, the one in Six Rivers, only has 10 reservable camping sites.... So it seems like maybe not many people pass thru the camping section. If both staff and multiple other campers thought they saw them, maybe that is a glimmer of a chance.
I wonder what the typical guest demographic is for this particular campground?

As some who has been a long time lurker with nothing to contribute I finally feel like I may be able to provide some information about the area. The Emerald Triangle can be a beautiful place to visit if you stay in the tourist areas but venturing too far off the beaten path can come with its own consequences.

Also, the routes from their last known location and the campsite where they were possibly seen would have had toll booths so I would assume that there are cameras there to monitor the traffic and to capture photos of people who haven’t paid their tolls. Those routes ( one lane each direction) have stretches that can be difficult to navigate as rock slides and accidents frequently occur.

I hope that wherever they are that they are safe.
