What does "reportedly confirmed" mean, though? Did they confirm it or not? I have yet to see a direct quote from LAPD from any kind of press release or interview. I simply cannot find a source. Though, it is concerning that Law and Crime is reporting this now. I was hoping it was a baseless social media rumour... I'm starting to wonder if it's true. MOO
Even '
reportedly' is

. You can read the story all this is spinning out of
here. The KTLA Times asked the police for an update and got told there wasn't one look at their last statement.
The last statement being:
“The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause or manner of Ms. Rivas Hernandez’s death. As such, it remains unclear whether there is any criminal culpability beyond the concealment of her body.
RHD is thoroughly examining every aspect of this case to uncover the truth and seek justice for Celeste Rivas Hernandez and her family.” (Sept. 29)
The KTLA article makes a few speculations and information on how concealing an accident death in California is only a misdemeanor, and only if an overt act was done to conceal it (like moving the body.) But it does not frame this as the police now saying no significant charges will be filed.
That seems to have been spun up by idiots reframing that article online as 'omg police say no charges will be filed.' Which has been picked up by clickbait

news sites Most of these reports only give that impression in the headline and cop to the actual situation in the article, but some of the lazier ones who are re-reporting based off those clickbait headlines are full on framing this as the are police now indicating it's not a murder. Including
Law and Crime which is frequently guilty of content scraping internet headlines, throwing in a 'reportedly' or 'allegedly' while doing no fact checking. They themselves advertise how they're half AI scripted these days.
Really exposed the quality of the online news cycle these days and how none of these 'news' sites are writing their own articles, just playing telephone re-reporting each others headlines. This misinformation bubble spun up in 24 hours based on literally nothing. No new information, not even a misinterpreted new police statement, literally the absence of one.
