If he's still here.........

They really need to take him down as soon as possible. This may be his first killing and he might just develop a thirst for this. He also seems to be able to get around the country pretty easily by public transportation.
It's just an outrage how these people can be permitted to roam the streets. A long criminal record and out on low cash bail for MULTIPLE crimes. Just cannot be allowed to happen in a civilized society. Our neighborhoods are dangerous now. My own neighborhood in Long Beach is considered one of the nicer ones, and it's downright dangerous! Nobody in the local government seems to care. The do-nothing mayor is running for Congress. Meanwhile the homeless population is skyrocketing here.

The only politician who seems to care about this is the L.A. County Sheriff. He cleaned out the hundreds of homeless (many drug addicted and mentally ill) from Venice Beach after the LAPD refused to do anything about it. There were at least two murders of innocent people by transients that happened there. One maniac walked right into a nice restaurant off the boardwalk and immediately slit the throat of a man sitting at a table with his family.

There are more stories of murder and mayhem done by these mentally whacked out homeless. Politicians don't give a damn.

Pardon my rant.

He was just arrested in Pasadena, FYI.

On Twitter they're saying LAPD went all out on this and followed up on many tips in the past 24 hours.

Great job! Now this monster will hopefully never see the light of day again.

I was listening to the scanner last night and it was nuts! People really wanted that $250,000 reward. I heard at least three false alarms where people thought they spotted him and the LAPD swarmed in!

Brianna Kupfer murder suspect Shawn Laval Smith is arrested after UCLA student stabbed to death, dad says (the-sun.com)
''Smith was arrested by Pasadena police officers on Wednesday afternoon after a citizen recognized the man from his wanted poster, TMZ reported. He was at a bus stop when he was cuffed, Fox News reported.

Brianna's dad, Todd, also confirmed that the man had been arrested when speaking to local outlets.''

So the LAPD was correct that people should be looking for him riding the bus!

Also, congrats to that eagle eyed citizen and I hope he gets the $250,000 reward!

I hope that he does, as well, but it is a shame that it takes such a reward to get some people involved when LE does ask for public assistance. We need more people doing the right thing because it's the right thing, and not because there is a huge reward involved. And I am in no way implying that whoever turned this person in was motivated by money, but if it gets career criminals like this trash off the streets, it is money well spent. Maybe this time, he will not be turned back into the streets. Sadly, it is too late to save Brianna, but it may save someone else. MO

Brianna Kupfer - latest: Covid backlog caused 2-year delay in trial of suspect Shawn Laval Smith on gun charge (msn.com)
''The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that Shawn Laval Smith was arrested by Pasadena police at around 11:50am that morning in the area of Fair Oaks and Colorado Blvd in Pasadena - roughly 17 miles from the luxury furniture store where Ms Kupfer was found murdered on 13 January.''

''Wednesday 19 January 2022 23:40 , Justin Vallejo
The suspect in the murder of Brianna Kupfer was out on bond for more than two years as a Covid-19 court backlog delayed his trial on a prior firearm offence, Fox News Digital reported.

Shawn Laval Smith was charged with firearm offences over a November 2019 attack in which he allegedly fired a flare gun through the window of car while a toddler was in the back seat.

The felony carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison but a 1,330-case Covid-19 backlog in the South Carolina county has left Mr Smith waiting years to face trial, according to a court clerk and records quoted by Fox News Digital.

There was no case activity between March 2020 until prosecutors moved to revoke his $50,000 bond on Wednesday, March 18, the outlet added''

[QUOTSmith’s aunt told Fox News Digital that Smith suffered from unspecified mental health issues.E="StarryStarryNight, post: 17397235, member: 194748"]Brianna Kupfer stabbing suspect held in Los Angeles jail on $2M bail, records show[/QUOTE]
Thanks, from link.. rbbm.
''Police in nearby Pasadena arrested Shawn Laval Smith, 31, earlier Wednesday after a pedestrian spotted him hanging out on a park bench near Fair Oaks and Colorado Boulevard and called 911 just before noon PT.''

''Smith’s aunt told Fox News Digital that Smith suffered from unspecified mental health issues.''
He was a good boy,"
said Velma Washington, who identified herself as his aunt and confirmed that the 31-year-old murder suspect had grown up "here and there" in South Carolina.
She said he had a history of mental illness but that she didn't know much about it.
"I have to call my sister and let her know what's going on," Washington told Fox News Digital Wednesday, hanging up without elaborating''

''Authorities in Los Angeles said they believed he is now a homeless transient.
Court records indicate that Smith had once lived a more stable life on the East Coast, owning a car, holding a construction job and graduating from college'

"mental health issues". Of course.

Get read for a 3-5 year delay (at the very least) before this monster comes to trial. The insanity defense will spring into action with psychiatrists lining up to issue "reports". There will be a couple hundred hearings and motions before this cold-blooded killer finally answers for this horrible crime.
I just cannot imagine the terror that poor Brianna experienced.

"Mental health issues" does not equate to legal insanity. Not even close. Very rare when that defense is accepted, but the delays and the court costs will be immense.
Welcome to California!

Sadly, you are probably correct. The California judicial system is a mess.

Arrested two days ago and no word yet on an initial court appearance. Sounds about right.

In addition, my computer won't let me access the L.A. County Inmate Search site. I'll try to use my phone.

I'm just guessing he'll be confined indefinitely to a secure mental ward and a trial (if any) will be 3-5 years away, or even more. The media will drop this story soon and everyone will move on. Stubborn me, I'll keep following this case as long as I'm physically able.
