''According to records, Smith was arrested out of state multiple times in the past. He was out on a $50,000 bond for a 2019 case in South Carolina for allegedly discharging a firearm into a car. Police are unsure of the motive behind the fatal attack.
“It was a completely senseless act of violence,” said family friend John Beaver.

Beaver, among many others, like Jon Salzman, showed their disdain for the inexplicable act of violence.

“You’ve got to really wake up to what’s happening all over Los Angeles,” he said.

According to Kupfer’s family, she was taking architectural design classes through UCLA.

Brianna Kupfer's alleged killer, Shawn Laval Smith, was charged Friday in the stabbing death of the 24-year-old UCLA graduate student as she was working at an upscale furniture store in Los Angeles.

Smith, 31, faces a murder charge and a special allegation of dangerous or deadly use of a weapon, a knife, prosecutors said. He appeared in Los Angeles County court Friday where he was ordered held on $2 million bail.

I fear this monster will be detained for years before he has to answer for this horrific crime. Once the psychiatrists enter the picture, things will move at a glacial pace. The media will also forget about this soon and move on. The poor family, who will endure many years of waiting for justice to be done for their Brianna...

They really need to take him down as soon as possible. This may be his first killing and he might just develop a thirst for this. He also seems to be able to get around the country pretty easily by public transportation.
It's just an outrage how these people can be permitted to roam the streets. A long criminal record and out on low cash bail for MULTIPLE crimes. Just cannot be allowed to happen in a civilized society. Our neighborhoods are dangerous now. My own neighborhood in Long Beach is considered one of the nicer ones, and it's downright dangerous! Nobody in the local government seems to care. The do-nothing mayor is running for Congress. Meanwhile the homeless population is skyrocketing here.

The only politician who seems to care about this is the L.A. County Sheriff. He cleaned out the hundreds of homeless (many drug addicted and mentally ill) from Venice Beach after the LAPD refused to do anything about it. There were at least two murders of innocent people by transients that happened there. One maniac walked right into a nice restaurant off the boardwalk and immediately slit the throat of a man sitting at a table with his family.

There are more stories of murder and mayhem done by these mentally whacked out homeless. Politicians don't give a damn.

Court TV covered some of this story. My mom is totally blind now but listens to Court TV. She let out a gasp last night. She feels awful for Brianna's family. Right PO'd as well this career criminal just was moseying around at free will.

Just looking at his mugshots again, his "dead eyes" appearance is so chilling. We see this look so often with maniacal killers.
Evil walks the earth, to be sure.

I recall seeing a news photo of the man who beat the woman to death in Long Beach with an electric scooter. The photo was taken at his arrest and it was terrifying to look at. There's a thread here about him: Amad Rashad Redding. I can't even find any information about him now. Wondering if he's simply locked up somewhere in a mental facility.
