The below article states that the bag was found at the rear of the car. Wouldn't that mean outside of the car? If so, I can see how the location, much more so than the fact it was unzipped, would lead to LE speculating that something of importance was in the bag and had been removed.

"5:30 a.m. Friday - CHP officers locate his overturned SUV on a paved access road that leads to the Castaic Lake Main Boat ramp, at the bottom of a 15-foot ravine, on its side, with its rear window smashed. Although he left the valuables – laptop, cell phone and wallet – a duffle bag is found at the rear of the car and zipped open, prompting investigators to suspect he took something from it."

I would think that would be in the inside of the vehicle. He had an SUV, so I think that would mean the back/trunk area. Also, he definitely could have left it unzipped from the last time he took something out.

But the thing is , maybe the bag was sitting upright and opened which would be odd when the car was on its side right? If he didn't go into the bag it would have been left tossed wherever it landed. JM :twocents:

I am confused. When did the accident occur-after the interlude at the motel? If so, he still went missing from the area of the lake, correct?

I would word it "in the rear" if it was in the car and "at the rear" if it was outside but that's just me. Also, as someone else stated, if all of the contents in the car where tumbled about and the bag was upright, unzipped and items that would more than likely have tumbled out were still in place I would think LE would be able to tell pretty easily if it was moved and unzipped after the tumble or before. It would be interesting to know if the bag was outside or inside the car (photos of the car at the Castaic location would be ideal. I wonder if photos were indeed taken. Wouldn't that be a standard thing to do?)

The car accident occurred in the area of the lake AFTER he was "checked on" by LE at the motel.

For it being 4+ weeks since Bryce's disappearance, it certainly feels like there are still so many unanswered questions that, you would think, LE should have answers to by now. I realize this is not a one hour episode of CSI, however, it seems like fairly simple questions like...is the blood in the car Bryce's....should be answered by now. You would think they would expedite that kind of analysis. If the blood isn't Bryce's, it could change the whole perspective on this.

Yes, that would be nice. As I recall The Castaic camera showed one person driving but could not make out the driver. Could Bryce have been Laying down injured & tied up in backseat being driven by the perp who was the driver in camera video? Wasn't the small amount of blood in the back of the vehicle? Could Bryce have picked up a bad guy hitchhiking? Ugh this case is unbelievably strange!!!!!!

I believe the camera only showed the front license plate and that is all. Anyone could have been driving.

I recently sat down to talk to a friend of mine who I hadn't seen in awhile and near the end of our conversation I showed her a photo of Bryce just on the off chance that she might see him around somewhere. I gave her a few details of his disappearance and she immediately said that it sounds like schizophrenia. She said that a male cousin and a male friend were both diagnosed with schizophrenia when they were 19 year old college students. They both unexpectedly stopped going to their classes and went missing. Luckily they were both found relatively quickly and it was very apparent that something wasn't right. She said that Bryce sitting in his car doing nothing for hours and hours in an odd location made sense to her as some schizophrenics have time processing impairments. The more I told her the details of Bryce's actions the more sure she was that schizophrenia was the culprit, based solely on her own experience with two people very close to her.

The question I have for anyone who knows more about this disease. Bryce's girlfriend and friend(s) noticed him acting odd (to the point that they took his keys from him to prevent him from driving) but his mom seemed to think he was fine. She indicated in an interview that nothing was wrong with him, that she spoke to him several times and he seemed fine. Even LE stated he was fine when they spent 20 minutes with him near the Buttonwillow truck stop. With that said, if he was suffering from the sudden onset of such a disease that debilitated him enough to keep him in a rest stop and truck stop for hours on end and ultimately resulted in him driving around Castaic and crashing his car and, possibly, wandering around or drowning in a lake what are the chances that LE and his mother, over the phone, wouldn't have any indication that there was something seriously wrong with him? Would the symptoms come and go and his mom and LE just happened to catch him at a good time during their phone conversations/search? TIA

Yes, he could absolutely act and appear normal if his triggers are not being hit. Also, if he has sleep deprived psychosis he could also act and appear completely normal. I certainly hope that if he is experiencing this, it's just from sleep deprivation and will correct itself eventually. I truly hope Bryce does not have any mental illness.

Unless it was a murderer or serial killer. They are not interested in laptops and cell phones. They never said if the wallet had any cash in it. I really think anything is possible at this point. That's why blood DNA, fingerprinting, fibers should be back by now.

Could someone had murdered Bryce on purpose or accident that lived near the lake? Possibly left with Bryce lying in the back to get something heavy from where he lives to make him sink to the bottom of the lake? I'm sorry to be thinking this way but I'm married to an LE officer and we tend to think the worst. :(

I live in CA and there is so much crime here on a daily basis. Our prisons are so overcrowded that our Governor Jerry Brown has paroled thousands early. It's called prison realignment.

Just wondering if you knew if sleep deprivation psychosis can lead to schizophrenia??? My paranoid schizophrenic that I worked with claimed this was the cause of his break.

I would not characterize it that way. Schizophrenia is really a broad classification of psychiatric illness with underlying causes that are still being researched and are not fully understood. Sleep deprivation psychosis is a temporary psychotic condition brought on by sleep deprivation that could happen to anyone.

If you were schizophrenic and not sleeping, it could certainly trigger a break and lead to being diagnosed so I don't doubt your coworker... But I wouldn't say sleep deprivation psychosis causes schizophrenia.

Disclaimer: I am not a psychiatrist or psychologist but I am a medical professional. Jmo. Maybe I should register.

Your interpretation of the report does sound plausible...

Just jumping off your post...

I understand (sometimes) the reason that LE keeps information "close to the vest" when there is evidence that a crime has been committed... Or that there is a perp that may eventually be on trial...

but in a case such as Bryce's ... In my untrained opinion... I would think that sharing information with the public could only be helpful...

In other words... I wish they would share more information with the public so there would be a better chance on zeroing in on where he might be...

All JMO... Of course....

Yes... It does kind of make one wonder what OTHER pieces of the puzzle have been withheld... Doesn't it.... :sigh:

IMO, police are just plain not good at dealing with missing persons cases. IMO it comes from the habit of secrecy which they need to have in criminal cases but carries over to cases like this one, where the public is their best resource by far. Often, it is months before LE starts to release info, when it is far too late as far as memories, possible witnesses, etc.
It is a shame.
