P.S. I sure wish we could get an update from dragracerz.

I would think if he were injured enough from the crash to have spilled blood in or on the vehicle, there would be a trail of blood drops or other signs that he had left the vehicle badly hurt. None seem to have been found, at least that we are aware of.

My vote is A, until further info comes in that disputes that theory.

You're right. More than likely there would be a blood trail if he suffered life-threatening injuries. However, it is possible to suffer internal bleeding or very serious head/neck injuries without much blood.

Wed. 11:30 pm-Left Chico for Laguna Niguel.

Thurs. 9 am-called roadside assistance for gasoline in Buttonwillow.

Google maps travel time: 5 hr. 43 minutes.
Bryce travel time: 9.5 hours.
Approximately 3.5 hours unaccounted for

Thurs. 9 am-in Buttonwillow waiting for gas, getting gas at noon.
9 pm-talks to CHP in welfare check in Buttonwillow
Fri. 1:50 am-talks to mom, didn't answer phone at 12:30am when Mom called.
*Tells mom he doesn't see any signs*
Fri. 2:08 am-tells mom he's pulling over to sleep.

Google maps-Buttonwillow to Castaic-1 hr. 27 minutes
Bryce time: Approx 2 hours. (when he left Castaic is sketchy)
Approximately 17 hours unaccounted for

Saturday 2:08-4:30-Seen on video cam passing through twice
Crash happened after 4 am.

Approximately 2.5 hours unaccounted for

Total time unaccounted for: 23 hours.

Had he continued, Laguna Niguel is 1 hour, 42 minutes from Castaic.

There is also no receipts or mention of him having anything to eat.

The answer is somewhere in this 23 hours. Even with sleep, what was he doing for 23 hours?

honestly my gut really isn't leaning me towards any scenario. I just don't have enough details to decide.

We are now on thread #4. I think we've discussed every possibility we can think of...no matter how remote. For those of you who have been following this from the beginning, I'm interested in how you feel about things right now....just a quick poll. What is your gut telling you?:

A) He's alive and well and intentionally hiding out (with or without help from someone)
B) He's alive and wandering/lost with amnesia or some other TBI or mental illness that's preventing him from knowing who he is
C) He's no longer with us (whether foul play or suicide)

I know that young men can have great mental disconnect between their actions, and consequences - the brain does not make all of those connections until nearly 30 years of age. (see the science stuff: http://www.education.com/reference/article/Ref_Boys_Girls/ But, despite that, I lean toward B at 60% and C at 40%. I just don't see Bryce having such a change of plan mid-way home - shifting from "Coming home to talk" to "running away." The fact that he left wallet, cell phone in the car, also leads me to a stronger sense of "B" being the option. A bad head bump being possible also underscores that option. Of course, there is C... possible unintentional foul play, Bryce steps in front of a car for whatever reason, and then the driver panics and hides the evidence. Anything is possible in that last C option. But to me, B is the most "probable" in my opinion. Truly gets to me :( Heart wrenching in every respect... :crossfingers: Hope the vigil gets the attention to an even wider audience... maybe even to Bryce himself.

I go back and forth. That unaccounted for time bothers me.......alot. What was he doing? Why was he there so long? He didn't know anyone there. I keep going back to him waiting, burning time for something or someone. I think he called someone in the unaccounted time from Chico to Buttonwillow and made a plan. Then he waited in Buttonwillow for whoever was part of the plan to catch up to him. Then they proceeded south to Castaic, where I think the two trips past the cam on Lake Hughes Road, he was looking for a place to ditch the SUV. I think perhaps, whoever caught up with him, as part of his plan, was waiting outside the view of the cameras while he ditched the SUV, then he walked away. The bloodhounds followed his trail out of the park.

I was thinking the same thing, as well as Caron, whose daughter was very close to Bryce at school. Their insights were very helpful and also helped us know Bryce a little better. I hope they weren't persuaded by LE to not come on here anymore. That would be too bad..

My gut is telling me "C." I lived in the area for 17 years and the lake is large, deep and dark, and while there are not a lot trees on the borders of the Angeles National Forest there the brush is quite think and could hid something for years. The other alternatives just have so many complexities that they don't stand the test of Aachen's Razor.

I am also very curious about the inability to get the phone records by now. Our family has an ATT family plan and I can RIGHT NOW log on to the account and see ALL of the telephone activity in real time up to a couple of hours ago for all five lines that are attached to the account, so I can see phone numbers for voice calls and text messages. (One caveat: For those with iPhones the iMessage service is not a text message, so it just shows up as nonspecific data usage, not revealing what other iPhone user received or sent the iMessage.)

What are Bryce's favorite fast foods - is it burgers, or tacos, or? What are his day to day habits? Some of those personality elements could be ingrained enough to lead him to certain actions, ie, bumming a few dollars for his fave pizza. Just trying to find a way to encourage targeted searches when resources are limited. He has to eat. If he happens to be staying with someone, and loves, for example, pineapple on his pizza, that could be a clue, if pizza delivery guys are in the loop. Imagine hundreds of pizza delivery guys, knocking on doors, handing over pizzas and seeing the occupants.... looking for a red-haired tall guy. Sigh. Just brainstorming with myself. Pizza delivery people could be an army of eyeballs... *just reaching for clues here* IMO...

I don't post much but have been following closely and yes, <modsnip>

Poster above brings up Occam's Razor, which I generally subscribe to, but where does Occam's Razor even lead with this one? To the lake? To me it says he was not ever at the lake or that area at all IMO.

However, my gut (not logic) tells me he is in the lake.

what does Occam's Razor say in this instance?

Hmmm, I could see that, definitely! Good thinking.... is there anything that could contradict this scenario? I can't think of anything...

YES! Seems a disconnect (no pun intended) between LE and ATT. What is up?? Is it that ATT is dragging their heels, requiring the users password or something? But the cell phone records were already captured... per the FB update. So the ATT records are for.... what? I feel frustration setting in. :stormingmad: Yep, there it is.

In the below KFI interview (about 18.5 minutes in) mom says that they already went through the AT&T records early on so they must be waiting for something more in depth from them (though I don't know what that would be?)

He started his trip on Wednesday, so he would have missed two days of classes, IF he had classes every day. Sometimes, you only have MWF classes, or a combination (like MW or MF) plus evening classes. I remember my first year, I could ONLY get evening classes, each one three hours, one day a week. Other years I only went on MWF or TTH.

My point is that if he only had classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, he would have only missed one day. That's not really stopping going to classes, since he originally said he'd be back on Labor day. That's skipping a day (or two), pretty common for most college students.

Skipping classes is common but definitely not as common in the second week of school when, more than likely for a JC in California, there might have been a waiting list of kids trying to get into that class.

Mom gave an account of everything she knew about that week which, in relation to his classes, only included him going to class on Monday (I imagine she had verified with the school to know for sure he was in class on Monday.) I believe his mom would have included any other classes he went to that week in her timeline or there would be no point in her indicating in that article that he had gone to class on Monday. In my opinion sometime after 12:01 on Tuesday morning he made up his mind that he would not be returning to school and his odd journey began. With that said, that doesn't necessarily mean he wasn't suffering from a mental disorder, didn't take his own life, or couldn't have run into foul play along the way.

My gut says C, but I'm really hoping for A or B.

Even though my gut says C, why hasn't he been found? That's what leads to A being my next best guess.

My C scenario doesn't have him being far from thr scene of the accident and I believe that area has been thoroughly searched. So I'm hoping I'm wrong. I just wish he would come home or contact someone so his family wouldn't have to go through this.

Yes, she very clearly explained that the phone was covered in detail, and that ATT said even deleted items would show. She said the only item in the GPS is the house address where Bryce was headed. It doesn't seem there are any other ATT records to be had. Unless there is another phone somewhere. In any event, her statement seems very clear, which then makes me believe there was no second person meet-up scenario. If someone were following you to meet at Castaic or elsewhere, wouldn't there be at least one text message or phone call to that person in all of those missing 23 hours or over four days? According to the reports in this interview and on the most recent FB update, there was nothing related to Bryce's disappearance. Mystery as to the "other ATT records" but for now, I lean again to "B" in the poll....

I don't wanna think about Bryce being gone....so I'm going with either A or B. Just wish I knew why the police felt he walked away or something about that LE meeting... oh to have been a fly on the wall. Might help in figuring out where we go from here.

  • #119
It is possible LE does not believe any foul play took place and also that their searches were thorough enough to say he is not in the area, which would only leave that he left the area in some fashion. They may have told this to the family, for instance.

I don't believe the lake and the area around the dam, etc. can ever really be ruled out until/unless he is found.

Not sure if you did this pic or someone else, but he would have a lot more facial hair by now if he hasn't shaven. There is a pic on his FB sitting in a car with his gf with more facial hair than is shown here. Maybe 1-2 weeks worth?

I got it from FB. I agree that he would have longer hair and/or facial hair by now.

With everyone being stuck on his red hair and looking for someone with red hair, could he have dyed his hair another color? dark brown, maybe … no one would even notice it was him unless his tattoo was in view.

IMO, he could be sporting a new hair color or keeping his head completely shaved!
