Here's the breakdown on getting from Laguna Niguel to Rocklin.
LAGUNA NIGUEL TO AIRPORT = 30 MINUTES
This says 20 minutes from Laguna Niguel Metrolink station to the Orange County Airport, so let's say half an hour:

FLYING TIME = 2.5 HOURS
This shows the length of the flight. 1.25 hours, so let's call it two and a half hours, adding an hour for boarding and unboarding:

DRIVE TIME FROM AIRPORT TO ROCKLIN = 1 HOUR
This shows it takes 32 minutes to drive from the airport in Sacramento, to Rocklin, but I will add a half hour for renting a car (remember, I already added an hour for boarding and unboarding):

TOTAL TIME TO FLY TO ROCKLIN = 4 HOURS.
TOTAL TIME TO DRIVE TO ROCKLIN = 7 HOURS
That's as opposed to driving time, which is 6 hours and 41 minutes, not including stops for gas or whatever:

Everyone I know flies up north if they can afford it, because it is so much faster and not as monotonous as the long drive there. I see a vast difference time wise. The mom could have gotten there more quickly if she flew, unless there were no flights available for several hours, butI doubt that and when she was talking to him about flying, she may not have checked the available flights yet. The biggest factor with flying is cost. That's what makes everyone I know who drives, to choose driving.
