CA - California couple accused of tricking women into carrying babies through surrogacy; 21 children seized

Yeah this is a headscratcher. What's the motivation for this? God complex?
The greenbacks... Money, money, money.
This one, IMO, is on a shelf of its own. WTH?

I don't understand the surrogate Mom of one of the children wants the child back? No biological connection. I really don't understand that. But, I can't wrap my head around being a human incubator. So. There is that.

I’m wondering if this is the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.

Have investigators had the opportunity to go through all of the agencies records? Are there more children and are they all accounted for?
RBBM

I thought the same when reading that most of the children are under 4 years old (1-3 yrs). This didn't happen overnight. JMO.

i’m guessing she feels a connection to the child after carrying them for nine months, and she was probably shocked finding out what happened. i can imagine that would make her want to take care of them, and protect them from more bad things happening to them, even if it originally was never the plan. jmo.

I grew up in Arcadia, parents are still there.
Mansionization happened, so I understand the huge house. It's most like that in lower Arcadia. We are up in the hills.
In January we will have lived in the same house for 50 years. In that time, Arcadia has become an Asian community. A very wealthy Asian community. People moved here for the excellent school district, as did we when my dad was transferred.
Just so you get a feel for Arcadia at this time.

"Many of the children were birthed through surrogacy and then the male and female at the residence took legal guardianship of those kids," Cieadlo added.

Six other children, investigators say, had been moved to other homes. All 21 of the kids were confirmed to be the children of 65-year-old Guojun Xuan and 38-year-old Silvia Zhang.

but what greenbacks? so far all we know is they hired surrogates on the pretense that prospective adoptive parents wanted a baby but then never gave the babies to any prospective adoptive parents? Hence, one would think, no payday for them?

Imagine if they were genetically exceptional people with a lot of money, just trying to do us a favor and procreate as much as possible and we thwarted it by accident!

I'm confused! So, the couple are the biological parents of all the children. I'm going to assume they paid women to be a surrogate to carry the embryos to birth and then the women gave the babies to this couple. This part of the situation doesn't seem to be illegal. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

The discovery of abuse when a baby went to hospital with injuries has opened up the uncovering of abuse of multiple children seemingly by multiple nannies. THIS is the part I don't understand.

Anyone else had to read this a couple times? lmao

I'm still letting this simmer....asking FOR WHAT actually?!?!?!?!?

Snipped from above & bbm...
“It’s kind of set up like a hotel with a big, giant lobby, and all the rooms are like suites,” neighbor Hobart Young said.

And what the parents do for a living to afford that house.

I know this sounds really out there, but could they be attempting to experiment with Eugenics? I'm just trying to figure out why they would feel compelled to birth as many offspring as possible in that manner during a couple years span.

This is the website for the surrogacy agency, which had in the meantime changed its name.

I'm thinking that they had her ovaries hyperstimulated, most likely not in the U.S., and froze the resulting embryos. As for financing it, follow the money. I suspect the word "oligarch" will be discovered somewhere in there.

Makes way more sense now...

Turns out they're actually the biological parents of the children. At first I thought the couple were facilitating some kind of ring.

Wondering if the parents will also press charges against the nannies? moo.

It is unclear what the couple do for work, with public records showing they are connected to a number of investment firms.

I initially thought that this was a way for this couple to secure babies for private adoptions at huge prices. That doesn’t seem to be the reason as they kept them and abused them.

What was the end game?

so far police have only said that nannies were on camera abusing children but I worry about SA and the parents selling videos or something ...

Zanny, the nanny? Is there any proof of actual nannies, or just a convenient scapegoat? *ETA Nanny is real, caught on video abusing a little.

Who is behind the now shuttered surrogacy agency?

And where is all this money coming from?

That house!

I have questions.

JMO

police say other nannies are also on video abusing *all* the children

oh god I just had a horrible thought
I'm not sure I should even say what it was
further to the possibility of SA videos that they sell, the rooms like 'suites' makes me wonder if they had 'customers' coming to the house ...

She carried and birthed the child. You don’t understand that connection? She was lied too, knows the child is currently in foster care. Likely feels she would be a better option for raising the child. I completely understand and applaud what she wants to do.

Just want to point out, the couple say they are the genetic donors. But do we know that for certain? Before I believe that, I’d need third party testing.
